KVIC and BSF Launch Project Bold in Jaisalmer

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF) in a first of its kind project has launched Project Bold with the primary aim of developing green cover in the Indian deserts of Rajasthan.
KVIC along with the BSF planted 1000 bamboo saplings under Project Bold.
The saplings were planted in Tanot village in Jaisalmer.
Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, the chairman of KVIC, launched this first of a kind plantation program in the presence of Shri Surendra Panwar, Special DG of the BSF.
Project BOLD, which stands for Bamboo Oasis on Lands in Drought, aims to provide livelihood, reducing desertification and providing multi-disciplinary rural industry support to the local population of the area.

Indore Only Indian City to Make it to International Clean Air Catalyst Programme

The Indore city of Madhya Pradesh, or the cleanest city of India, has become the only city from the country to be selected for International Clean Air Catalyst Programme. The project will be operated for a period of five years to purify the air in the city with the cooperation of Indore Municipal Corporation and Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board. Under the project, USAID and partners will work with local communities to better understand local pollution sources and identify, test, accelerate, and scale solutions for cleaner, healthier air.
Clean Air Catalyst is a new flagship programme launched by The US Agency for International Development (USAID) and a global consortium of organisations, led by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) to combat air pollution in low and middle-income countries by accelerating clean air solutions.

Israel to Cut 85% of Emissions by Mid-century

Israel will cut carbon emissions by 85% from 2015 levels by the middle of the century, its government says.
Its Prime Minister said that the decision would help the country gradually shift to a low-carbon economy.
Targets include cutting the vast majority of emissions from transport, the electricity sector and municipal waste.
But critics want more ambitious targets for renewable energy and bigger economic incentives for change.
The world has already warmed by about 1.2C since the industrial era began, and temperatures will keep rising unless governments around the world make steep cuts to emissions.

India Urges G20 Nations to Reduce High Emissions

India has urged the group of 20 nations with per capita greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions above the world average to take immediate steps to reduce their emissions so that the world stays on the right track to leave a better planet for future generations.
Union Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy R. K. Singh led a delegation from India at the G20 Energy and Climate Joint Ministerial Meeting that was held virtually and was attended by energy and environment ministers from G20 nations.
R. K. Singh apprised the delegates from the G20 countries in the meeting about the significant progress made by India in meeting its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) targets while staying committed to meeting its climate goals under the Paris Agreement.

WWF-UNEP report

A new report by WWF and UNEP has found that 35 per cent of India's tiger ranges currently lie outside protected areas. The report, A Future for All – A need for Human-Wildlife Coexistence, examined increasing human-wildlife conflict, and has found that marine and terrestrial protected areas only cover 9.67 per cent globally.
With most of these protected areas disconnected from each other, many species depend on human-dominated spaces for their survival, and shared landscapes. Protected areas play an increasingly important role for the survival of key species such as large predators and herbivores, says the report.
Apart from India's tigers, 40 per cent of the African lion range and 70 per cent of the African and Asian elephant ranges fall outside protected areas, finds the report.
