Mansukh Mandaviya Inaugurates 59th Fertiliser Association of India Annual Seminar 2023
Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Chemicals & Fertilisers and Health and Family Welfare inaugurated the 59th Fertiliser Association of India Annual Seminar 2023 in New Delhi. The theme of the seminar is 'Innovations in Fertiliser and Agriculture Sectors'.
Mandaviya informed that under the PM PRANAM initiative, a mass movement has started to save the health of Mother Earth by promoting sustainable and balanced use of fertilisers, adopting alternate fertilisers, promoting organic farming and implementing resource conservation technologies.
ZPM leader Lalduhoma Sworn in as New Chief Minister of Mizoram
Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) leader Lalduhoma, took oath as the new Chief Minister of Mizoram, and became the first leader not belonging to either the Mizo National Front (MNF) or the Congress to hold that post. Several other ZPM leaders also took oath as ministers.
Four Union Ministers Given Additional Portfolios
President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignations of Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Singh Patel and Renuka Singh Saruta from the Union Council of Ministers.
Union Minister Arjun Munda was assigned Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ministry, in addition to his existing portfolio.
Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje was given charge of Minister of State in Food Processing Industries, in addition to her existing portfolio.
Union Rajeev Chandrasekhar will work as Minister of State in Jal Shakti, in addition to his other portfolios.
Union Minister Bharti Pravin Pawar was given additional charge of Minister of State in Tribal Affairs.

After taking oath ad Telangana CM, Revanth Reddy began the process of implementing the Congress' six poll guarantees, and his second plan is to provide jobs to disabled women.
In Telangana, the Congress' six guarantees include financial assistance of Rs. 2,500 for women heads of households, an LPG cylinder at Rs. 500, 200 units of free electricity for all households, Rs. 15,000 per acre annually for farmers, Rs. 12,000 per year to agricultural labourers, a bonus of Rs. 500 per year for paddy crops, and Rs. 4,000 monthly pension for senior citizens.

Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Singh Patel Resign as Ministers from Union Cabinet
BJP leaders Narendra Singh Tomar and Prahlad Singh Patel resigned from the Union Cabinet a day after they quit their Lok Sabha membership. The leaders resigned after they won the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections. As per the rule, the membership of two Houses can be retained only for 14 days. The BJP has asked all its MPs, who won assembly polls in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, to resign from Parliament and look after their assembly constituencies.
While Tomar was Minister of Agriculture and farmers' Welfare in the Modi government, Patel was Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries and Jal Shakti.
Sixteen Countries Onboard to be Partners for Vibrant Gujarat Event
As many as 16 countries and 14 organisations have so far confirmed to be partners for the upcoming 10th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit from January next month.
The Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) 2024, being organised on the theme of Gateway to the Future', will have Japan, Finland, Morocco, Republic of Korea, Mozambique, Estonia, UAE, Australia, UK, Netherlands, Norway, Nepal, Thailand, Bangladesh, Germany, and Egypt as partner countries.
The 10th edition of the investors' summit is scheduled to take place from January 10-12, 2024, at the Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.

Kolkata Emerges Safest City for Third Year in a Row: NCRB Report
Kolkata emerged as the safest city in India for the third consecutive year, recording the least number of cognisable offences per lakh population among metropolises, according to a report published by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
The eastern metropolis, which reported 86.5 cases of cognisable offences per lakh people in 2022, was followed by Pune (280.7) and Hyderabad (299.2).
Cognisable crimes are those for which cases are registered under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and SLL (Special and Local Laws).
The NCRB report 'Crime in India 2022' is based on data collected from 36 states and Union territories and central agencies.
Congress Names Revanth Reddy as Telangana CM
The Congress announced its Telangana state unit chief, A. Revanth Reddy, the new Chief Minister of the state.
Of the five states that went to the polls, Congress won the majority in Telangana.
The Zoram Peoples Movement (ZPM) won in Mizoram. Its leader Lalduhoma, a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, is likely to take oath in a few days.
There was no clarity on who the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may pick as Chief Ministers in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the three Hindi heartland states where it secured a majority.
India and Kenya Ink 5 Pacts, Govt Announces $250 mn LoC for Kenyan Agricultural Sector
India announced a USD 250 million line of credit to Kenya for modernisation of its agricultural sector as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto agreed to shore up bilateral ties in areas of defence, trade, energy, digital public infrastructure and healthcare.
Following the Modi-Ruto talks, the two sides signed five pacts providing for cooperation in a range of areas including sports, education and digital solution, and unveiled a joint vision document to scale up maritime engagement in the Indian Ocean region. The Kenyan side offered, in line with Kenyan laws, to provide land to Indian companies and institutions for cultivation of crops, including millets.
In order to enhance bilateral economic engagement as well as to finance projects under development partnership, the two leaders also discussed the need to use local currencies for trade.

Dhankhar Reconstitutes Panel of Vice-chairpersons with 50% Women MPs
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar reconstituted the panel of vice-chairpersons comprising eight members with the presence of 50 per cent women parliamentarians.
The eight-member panel now has four women members- Congress MP Phulo Devi Netam, and Bharatiya Janata Party's MPs Phangnon Konyak, Darshana Singh and Sonal Mansingh.
Dhankhar made the announcement regarding the reconstituted panel in the Upper House on the first day of the Winter Session of the Parliament.
The vice chairpersons are eligible to preside over the house in the absence of the chairman or the deputy chairman.
Kanchan Devi First Woman Director General of ICFRE
Kanchan Devi, 1991-batch Indian Forest Service Officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, was appointed as the Director General (DG) of the Indian Council of Forestry Research Education (ICFRE). This marked a historic milestone, as Kanchan became the first woman officer to ascend to this esteemed position within the premier council operating under the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.
Kanchan Devi brings to her new role an impressive track record of over 30 years in the realm of forestry. Her extensive expertise spans a myriad of aspects, including forest management, administration, education, human resource development, research, and extension.
ICFRE was created in 1986, under the Central Ministry of Environment and Forests (India), to direct and manage research and education in forestry sector in India. ICFRE is headed by a Director General with headquarters at Dehradun. ICFRE became an autonomous council under the Ministry in 1991.
ICFRE is the largest organisation responsible for forestry research in India.

R. K. Singh Inaugurates National Conference on 'Energy Transition in India'
Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy R. K. Singh inaugurated a two-day National Conference on 'Energy Transition in India - Road Travelled and Opportunities Ahead' in Gandhinagar. Kanubhai Desai, Minister of Energy Petrochemicals and Finance, Government of Gujarat was also present along with other dignitaries on the occasion. Organised as a part of the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, the event was attended by more than 250 Indian and foreign representatives of power and renewable energy sector. The two-day conference focused on scaling up renewable energy, generation and consumption by considering challenges related to grid integration, financing tools and developing supporting infrastructure.
Chhattisgarh Election Results
The results of the Chhattisgarh assembly elections were announced with the BJP staging an upset to secure a huge majority in the state that has 90 seats. The BJP made a mockery of the exit poll that had predicted a victory for the Congress. The saffron party secured 54 seats, ruining Bhupesh Bagehl's dream of a second straight term in the state. The majority mark in the state is 46 and the BJP is in a comfortable position with 54 seats.
Rajasthan Election Result 2023: BJP Wins Big with 115 Seats
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious in the Rajasthan assembly polls and is set to form the government in the 200-member state Assembly, as the party crossed the majority mark by securing 115 seats.
As the BJP approached triumph in the Rajasthan Assembly elections, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot submitted his resignation letter to Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra.
