Asia-Oceania Meteorological Satellite Users' Conference (AOMSUC-14) New Delhi, India

  • The 14th Asia-Oceania Meteorological Satellite Users' Conference (AOMSUC-14) will be held from December 4-6, 2024, in New Delhi, India. The conference is hosted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ministry of Earth Sciences, and will feature high-quality oral and poster presentations, panel discussions, and a training workshop focused on applying current satellite data for meteorological and climatological applications.
  • The first AOMSUC was held in Beijing, China, in 2010. Since then, the conference has been hosted annually in various locations across Asia-Oceania. The AOMSUC has become a premier event for meteorologists, earth scientists, satellite operators, and students from across the region and the globe.

IIT Guwahati Hosts Nation's Largest Science Festival

ISRO and ASA Join Hands for Gaganyaan Mission

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) entered into a significant collaboration with the Australian Space Agency (ASA) to support India's first crewed spaceflight program, Gaganyaan. The two space agencies signed an Implementation Agreement (IA) to enhance cooperation on crew and crew module recovery, which is crucial for the success of the Gaganyaan mission. This agreement will provide India with the necessary assistance to ensure the safe recovery of astronauts in the event of a contingency during the mission.
  • The agreement was signed by D K Singh, Director of ISRO's Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC), in Bengaluru, and Jarrod Powell, General Manager of ASA's Space Capability Branch, in Canberra.

SpaceX Launches India's Communication Satellite GSAT-20

  • India's heavy communication satellite GSAT-20, weighing 4,700 kg, was launched from Cape Canaveral, USA, by Elon Musk's SpaceX. The satellite, developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), will provide essential communication services, including internet connectivity to remote areas. This marks a significant milestone in India's space endeavours, as the satellite is too heavy for India's own launch vehicle, the LVM-3 "Bahubali." The satellite has an operational life of 14 years.
