India's First RRTS Corridor to Use an App-based Token-free Ticketing System

The nation's first Regional Rapid Transit System (India's first RRTS corridor), the Delhi-Meerut RRTS line, would incorporate an automatic fare collection (AFC) system and tickets with QR codes for riders. In order to purchase the AFC system, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) had requested bids in accordance with the Modi administration's "Make In India" standards.

PM Addresses Inauguration Ceremony of 'Kalam no Carnival' Book Fair

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the inauguration ceremony of 'Kalam no Carnival' Book Fair organised by Navbharat Sahitya Mandir in Ahmedabad via video message.
The Prime Minister expressed delight that the tradition of the book fair started by 'Nav Bharat Sahitya Mandir' in Ahmedabad is getting richer with each passing year. He acknowledged that the book fair has become a platform for new and young writers, and it is also helping in expanding the literature and knowledge of Gujarat.
'Kalam no Carnival' is a huge convention of books in Hindi, English and Gujarati languages.

President Droupadi Murmu Launched Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan

President Draupadi Murmu launched the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan virtually. The Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan aims to eliminate tuberculosis from India by 2025.
The `Abhiyaan' was launched in the presence of Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare (HFW) Mansukh Mandaviya, and Minister of State (HFW) Bharati Pravin Pawar, among other dignitaries.
The President also launched the Ni-kshay Mitra initiative which forms a vital component of the `Abhiyaan'. The Ni-kshay Mitra portal provides a platform for donors to provide various forms of support to those undergoing TB treatment.

Tomar Inaugurates National Conference on Agriculture for Rabi Campaign-2022

Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Agriculture Minister, inaugurated the National Conference on Agriculture for Rabi Campaign 2022-23 at NASC, Pusa, New Delhi. In his address to the Conference, he stated that according to the 4th Advance Estimates (2021-22), the country's food grain production is estimated at 3157 lakh tonnes, which is 50 lakh tonnes more than the production of food grain in 2020-21. Total pulse and oilseed production is expected to reach a record 277 and 377 lakh tonnes in 2021-22, respectively.

NCW Organizes Consultation on 'Inclusion Amplified, Transwomen in India: Problems & Prospects'

The National Commission for Women organized its first-ever Consultation for transwomen; 'Inclusion Amplified, Transwomen in India: Problems & Prospects' to address the misconceptions leading to stigma attached with the individuals of the community and spark a conversation with regard to their acceptance and participation in the society.
Through this Consultation, the Commission sought to offer a broad platform to academicians, researchers, social activists, policy makers, civil society members, and transwomen themselves to analyze problems which they face in various arenas and to discuss future directions and policy proposals for the welfare of transwomen.
Ms. Rekha Sharma, Chairperson, National Commission for Women, Ms. Meeta Rajivlochan, Member Secretary, NCW, Ms. Radhika Chakravarthy, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Asholi Chalai, Joint Secretary, NCW and senior officials of the Commission graced the occasion.

Amit Kumar Appointed as Next Ambassador of India to Republic of Korea

Amit Kumar, an IFS officer of the 1995 batch, was appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Korea.
Earlier, the position was held by Sripriya Ranganathan, an Indian Foreign Services (IFS) officer of the 1994 batch. Before joining the Foreign Services, Ranganathan obtained her Master's Degree in History, with a specialisation in Modern Indian History, from Delhi University.
She served in Myanmar as the second in command at the Embassy of India, Yangon. Her other overseas postings were in Ankara and Hong Kong.

Government Sets Up Kirit Parikh Committee to Moderate Gas Prices

The government set up a panel to review the formula that dictates the pricing of gas produced by companies like ONGC and Reliance as it looks to moderate the steep increase that producers would have otherwise got. The committee under former planning commission member Kirit Parikh would suggest a fair price to the end consumer.
The panel, which will include representatives of the gas producers association as also producers ONGC and OIL, has been asked to submit its report by the month-end.

Digital India Mission: Uttar Pradesh Tops in Use of e-Prosecution Portal

Uttar Pradesh, with 9.12 million cases, ranks at the top in the number of disposal and entry of cases through the e-Prosecution portal managed by the Union government under its Digital India Mission. According to the figures till the end of August, Madhya Pradesh followed in second spot at 2.31 million, Bihar with 859,000, Gujarat with 487,000 and Chhattisgarh with 383,000 cases. UP also ranked at the top in disposal of online cases on this portal, with about 470,000 entries, followed by 170,000 for MP and 125,000 for Gujarat. The portal launched by states two years ago is an initiative of the home, IT and law ministries for helping courts and the prosecution system in accelerating criminal trials in heinous crimes.

Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat Top States in Implementing Poshan Abhiyaan Scheme

In a to a Niti Aayog report, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat were ranked as the top three states among larger states in terms of the overall implementation of the Centre's flagship Poshan Abhiyaan.
Sikkim was the best performer among the small states.
As per the report titled 'Preserving Progress on Nutrition in India: Poshan Abhiyan in Pandemic Times' 12 out of 19 large states had an implementation score of over 70 per cent.
While Dadar and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu topped among Union Territories (UTs), Punjab and Bihar were the lowest performers among larger states in terms of the overall implementation of Poshan Abhiyaan, as per the government think tank report.
It pointed out that only 17 states and UTs had more than 75 per cent of children 12-23 months of age who were fully immunised, while 11 states and UTs had less than 25 per cent fully immunised children.

Sanjay Kumar Verma Appointed High Commissioner to Canada

Seasoned diplomat Sanjay Kumar Verma was appointed as India's next High Commissioner to Canada, while Amit Kumar, currently Consulate General of India in Chicago, was named as the next ambassador to the Republic of Korea.
Verma, a 1988-batch IFS officer and presently India's Ambassador to Japan, is expected to take up the assignment shortly. Verma succeeds Acting High Commissioner Anshuman Gaur.

India, Bangladesh Sign Deal on Water Sharing, Six other Treaties

India and Bangladesh signed a deal on withdrawing water from the Kushiara River in Assam and six other treaties as their leaders spoke of shared cultural traditions and solving issues through clear discussions.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh leader Sheikh Hasina signed the agreements in Delhi. The agreements include a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on training Bangladeshi personnel in Indian Railways institutes and collaboration in Information Technology (IT) systems for freight operations. The countries signed MoUs on training programmes for Bangladeshi judicial officers in India, scientific and technological cooperation, technology and the public television sector.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Wins Majority Test

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren won the trust vote amid a threat of disqualification in an office of profit case.
Soren got 48 votes, while the BJP walked out during the House proceedings.
He claimed that the BJP was attempting to poach UPA MLAs, which prompted him to take the step of tabling a confidence motion in the Jharkhand Assembly.
The Chief Minister lambasted the BJP for creating uncertainty in the state.
Soren's government is running with the support of Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal.

Chhattisgarh's First Ethanol Plant to Come up in Kabirdham District

Chhattisgarh's first ethanol plant will be constructed near Bhoramdev Cooperative Sugar Factory in Kabirdham district. The district administration has identified 35 acres of vacant land adjacent to the factory for setting up the plant.
Implementation of the project was accelerated after Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said he would include the agriculture-based ethanol plant as one of the priority schemes of his government. The plant will have a capacity of 80 kilo litres per day (KLPD).
The Chhattisgarh government has decided to involve private players for financial and technical participation in the project to strengthen the state's economy. The state's first ethanol plant will be set up under the public-private-partnership (PPP) model.

GoI Announces to Rename the Rajpath as Kartavya Path

The government of India announced to change the name of Rajpath and Central Vista lawns into Kartavya Path. The decision is said to shed remnants of the British colony in India. The decision came after a special meeting, convened with the aim of renaming the Rajpath and Central Vista lawns. Earlier, the Modi government had changed the name of the road on which the Prime Minister's residence is, from Race Course Road to Lok Kalyan Marg.
Kartavya Path includes the entire avenue and area from the Netaji Statue to the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The route runs from Rashtrapati Bhavan on Raisina Hill through Vijay Chowk and India Gate to National Stadium in Delhi. The decision comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the nation on Independence Day where he stressed the factors leading to the abolition of symbols and signs relating to the colonial mindset.
