India's Bornil Aakash Changmai Clinches U-15 Gold in Badminton Asia Junior Championships

  • India's U15 shuttler Bornil Aakash Changmai overcame Fan Hong Xuan of China in the final and clinched the gold medal in the Badminton Asia U17 and U15 Junior Championships in Chengdu.
  • Bornil won the final 2-19, 21-13 against the Chinese in the boys' singles final.
  • Bornil became the second junior badminton player after Siril Verma in 2013 to bag the top podium finish in the prestigious tournament.

Unnati Hooda Captures Women's Singles Title at Abu Dhabi Masters 2023

  • India's Unnati Hooda beat Samiya Imad Farooqui and captured the women's singles title at the Abu Dhabi Masters 2023.
  • Unnati Hooda defeated Samiya Imad Farooqui 21-16, 22-20. This was her second BWF Super 100 World Tour title. She became the youngest Indian to clinch a BWF title last year (2022).

Rajasthan Royals Hand Shane Bond Dual Role

  • Relieved of his duties at Mumbai Indians, former New Zealand pacer Shane Bond was handed the dual role of assistant coach and fast-bowling coach by IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals.
  • Bond is set to join the franchise for the 2024 edition of the IPL and will be integrating into the coaching staff during the upcoming months.
  • One of the standout modern-day fast bowlers, Bond has, in the past, served as the bowling coach for his national team between 2012 and 2015, where he helped them reach the final of the 2015 World Cup.
  • He was then employed by the Mumbai franchise in the IPL in 2015, contributing significantly to their success of winning four titles in nine seasons.

Virat Kohli First Batter Ever to Score 3,000 Runs across All ICC Tournaments

  • Virat Kohli heartbreakingly failed to equal Sachin Tendulkar's incredible record of 49 centuries in ODI cricket as he fell for 95 against New Zealand in match no. 21 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Dharamsala. Kohli was attempting to reach the landmark with a six but fell just short of the boundary.
  • However, en route to scoring 95, Kohli became the first-ever batter to score 3,000 runs across all ICC tournaments. Kohli now has 3,054 runs in ICC events while former West Indies opener Chris Gayle is second on the list with 2,942 runs.

Hyderabad to Host Second Edition of E-Prix in 2024

  • The Hyderabad E-Prix Formula E race will return for a second edition, which will be held on February 10, 2024.
  • After a period of uncertainty regarding the future of the race, the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and Formula E confirmed Hyderabad's slot in the final calendar for the tenth season of Formula E, which will have 16 rounds.
  • Next year (2024), there will be an Indian driver (Jehan Daruvala) set to debut in the all-electric single-seater championship driving for Maserati MSG Racing apart from the Indian team Mahindra Racing.

Asian Para Games 2023

  • The much-anticipated Asian Para Games 2023 kicked off with a grand opening ceremony in Hangzhou, China.
  • The Asian Para Games is organised by the Asian Paralympic Committee and recognized by the International Paralympic Committee. This year (2023) marks the fourth edition of the Games, featuring 566 medal events across 22 sports and 24 disciplines.
  • India sent its largest-ever contingent, consisting of 313 athletes, to compete in various events at the Asian Para Games 2023.
  • Renowned Para Shuttler Parul Parmar will proudly bear the Indian flag during the opening ceremony, symbolizing the spirit of Indian para-athletes. Para-club Thrower Amit Saroha joins Parul Parmar as the co-flag bearer, representing India with pride and determination.

P. V. Sindhu Loses in Semis to Carolina Marin

  • Struggling Indian shuttler P. V. Sindhu lost to her old nemesis Carolina Marin in three games in an ill-tempered semifinal of the Denmark Open Super 750, in which both players receive yellow cards for verbal exchanges.
  • Sindhu, who has been struggling the whole season, lost 18-21 21-19 7-21 in one hour and 13 minutes. This was Sindhu's fifth loss on the trot against Marin.

Asian Para Games 2023: India Sweeps Medals in Men's T63 High Jump, Men's F51Club Throw

  • India swept all the three medals in men's high jump T63 and men's club throw F51 events with Shailesh Kumar and Pranav Soorma clinching gold in the respective categories to begin their Hangzhou Asian Para Games with a bang in Hangzhou.
  • Kumar set an Asian Para Games record of 1.82 m to win the men's high jump T63 gold while compatriots Mariyappan Thangavelu (1.80 m) and Govindbhai Ramsingbhai Padhiyar (1.78m) took the silver and bronze, respectively.

Karthikeyan Murali Becomes Third Indian to Beat Magnus Carlsen in Classical Chess

  • In a remarkable chess feat, the Indian chess grandmaster, Karthikeyan Murali, delivered a stunning blow to the world's number one player, Magnus Carlsen. Virat Kohli Beats Sachin Tendulkar

  • Virat Kohli became the fastest hitter in cricket history to reach 26,000 international runs, breaking the record held by Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. Before the Bangladesh game, Kohli had amassed 25,923 runs from 566 innings. He accomplished this milestone with a magnificent six during the World Cup match against in Pune, in 2023.
  • Virat Kohli is now the fourth-highest run-scorer in world cricket. With 78 centuries and 134 half-centuries, his total runs in all formats stand at 26,026 in 567 innings. There are just three players ahead of him in terms of scoring runs: Ricky Ponting (27,483), Kumara Sangakkara (28,016) and Sachin Tendulkar (34,357). Kohli got past Mahela Jayawardene (25,957), who now stands at number 5 in the list of the highest run-scorers in cricket.

Bowling Coach Shane Bond Parts Ways with Mumbai Indians

  • Former New Zealand pacer Shane Bond ended his nine-year association as Mumbai Indians bowling coach, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise announced.
  • Bond, who has been associated with MI since 2015, won four IPL trophies as the bowling coach of the team.
  • Bond made the decision to part ways with MI after the five-time IPL champions appointed Lasith Malinga as their bowling coach for season 2024.
  • Malinga, who retired in 2021 and had played for MI, worked with the Rajasthan Royals until this year (2023).

Multan Sultans Become Pakistan's First Team to Sign a Woman Bowling Coach

  • Pakistan's Multan Sultans became the country's first cricket team to hire a woman bowling coach, signing former Ireland fast bowler Catherine Dalton for next year.
  • Women have historically struggled to establish themselves in the sporting scene of deeply patriarchal and conservative Pakistan, a nation with a fanatical devotion to cricket.
  • Dalton played four one-day internationals and as many Twenty20 internationals between 2015 and 2016, before moving into coaching roles.
  • The Multan Sultans are one of six teams that compete in the Pakistan Super League, which was started in 2016.
  • The other five teams are Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators.
