Maharashtra Teams Reign in National Kho Kho Championship

Maharashtra emerged champion in both the men's and women's sections in the 56th National Kho Kho championship 2023-2024 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Delhi.
In the men's final, the Maharashtra team defeated the Indian Railway team by a narrow margin of 52-50 points.
Maharashtra vs Airport Authority of India In the women's category, the Maharashtra team, led by Sampada Maurya, outshone the Airport Authority of India team with a score of 18-16 points and claimed the championship.
The Maharashtra men's team defeated Kolhapur 30-28 in the semi-finals, while Indian Railways overcame Odisha 24-22. In the women's semi-finals, Maharashtra beat Odisha 24-20, and the Airport Authority of India defeated Delhi 32-10. The winning teams received a cash prize of Rs. 3 lakh and a trophy, while the runners-up received Rs. 2 lakh and a trophy.
The 56th National Kho Kho Championship 2023-24 was organized by the Kho Kho Federation of India concluded in April 2024. A total of 37 teams participated in both the men's and women's categories, divided into 8 groups each.

Sumit Nagal Wins Opening Round at Marrakesh Open

Top Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal made a promising start at Marrakesh Open, entering the second round with a thrilling win over Corentin Moutet of France at the ATP 250 event in Morocco. Nagal, currently ranked 95, rallied his way and beat Moutet 4-6 6-3 6-2 in the opening round of the Grand Prix Hassan II event.
Nagal had lost to the same opponent in a Challenger final in Helsinki in 2023.

Mirabai Chanu Becomes the Only Indian Weightlifter to Qualify For Paris Olympics

Tokyo Olympics medallist Mirabai Chanu became the only Indian weightlifter to qualify for the Paris Olympics this year after competing successfully at the IWF World Cup in Phuket, Thailand. The Olympic silver medalist finished third in Group B of the women's 49 kg (and 11th overall) at the event and booked her berth at the 2024 Paris Games.
Chanu, who was back in action after a six-month-long injury lay-off, lifted a total of 184 kg at the World Cup, which is the final and a compulsory qualifier for Paris 2024.

Pankaj Advani Outwits Causier to Retain CCI Billiards Crown

World champion Pankaj Advani continued his impressive run as he thrashed Englishman David Causier 1836-743 in a lop-sided final and retained the All India CCI Billiards Classic title in Mumbai.
Advani was in outstanding form as he constructed two humungous breaks of 801 and 460 to outwit Causier, a former 10-time World champion, in the four-hour summit clash played at the CCI's Wilson Jones billiards hall.
This was Advani's fourth successive triumph at this venue. He claimed the CCI Snooker Classic over the last two years and now retained the billiards title.

Danielle Collins Claims Women's Miami Title

American Danielle Collins overcame fourth seed Elena Rybakina and won the women's final of the Miami Open 7-5 6-3 and claim the title on home soil in her farewell season.
She joined Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert, three-times champion Venus Williams, eight-times winner Serena Williams and Sloane Stephens as the sixth American woman to claim the crown.

Bopanna-Ebden Clinch Miami Open Title

Continuing their fine run this year, the 44-year-old Bopanna and Ebden fought back from a set down to pull off an exhilarating 6-7(3), 6-3, 10-6 win over Crotia's Ivan Dodig and American Austin Krajicek at the Hard Rock Stadium.
Ace Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna rewrote his own record to continue to be the oldest ATP Masters 1000 champion as he and his Australian partner Matt Ebden clinched the men's doubles crown at the Miami Open.
With the win, Bopanna surpassed his record created last year when he won the Indian Wells title at the age of 43, and also reclaimed the top spot in the doubles ranking.

Mirabai Return to Action after 6-month Injury Layoff

Tokyo Olympics silver medallist lifter Mirabai Chanu returned to action after a six-month injury layoff when she participates at the IWF World Cup to confirm her Paris Games berth.
The World Cup is not only the final Olympics qualifying event but also a mandatory qualifier for the Paris Games. Chanu, who has been recuperating from hip tendonitis she suffered during the Asian Games in September 2024, has all but qualified for the Paris Olympics.

Italian Jannik Sinner Beats Grigor Dimitrov to Win Miami Open

Jannik Sinner dominated Grigor Dimitrov 6-3 6-1 and won the Miami Open for the first time.
Australian Open champion Sinner, who scooped a second Masters 1000 title following his success in Canada last year, has won 25 of his last 26 matches and has only lost three times since last year's U.S. Open.

Babar Azam Replaces Shaheen Shah Afridi as Pakistan's White-ball Captain

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi appointed Babar Azam as Pakistan's captain in the white-ball (ODIs and T20Is) replacing Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Shaheen was named T20 captain after the World Cup in India in November 2023 when Zaka Ashraf was heading the PCB.

Matt Henry Replaces David Willey in Lucknow Super Giants Squad

Lucknow Super Giants named New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry as a replacement for England all-rounder David Willey. Henry joined LSG at his base price of Rs. 1.25 crore.
Willey had withdrawn from the tournament citing personal reasons.
Willey is the second England pacer to be unavailable for LSG after Mark Wood was pulled out by ECB to manage his workload ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup.

6th Shaastra Rapid FIDE Rated Chess Tournament at IIT Madras

IIT Madras hosted the prestigious '6th Shaastra Rapid FIDE Rated Chess Tournament'. The tournament, sanctioned by the International Chess Federation (FIDE), drew the participation of esteemed players from across the globe, including Grandmasters, International Masters, and Women Grandmasters.
The event showcased the talents of six Grandmasters, sixteen International Masters, three Women Grandmasters, and a Women International Master.
Players from various nations such as Australia, England, the USA, and Singapore competed alongside over 35 IIT Madras players, highlighting the international appeal of the tournament.
