  • In Badminton, Indian shuttlers bagged the men's and women's singles titles at the Saint-Denis Reunion Open 2024, in Saint-Denis, the capital of the French overseas département of Réunion in the Western Indian Ocean. In Men's singles, India's Tharun Mannepalli defeated Yudai Okimoto of Japan in straight sets, 21-15, 21-15, and won his second title of the year. Earlier, he won the Kazakhstan International Challenge. While in women's singles, World No. 75, India's Tasnim Mir clinched the title, defeating compatriot Rakshitha Sree, also in straight games 21-15, 21-19. in the final. However, in the men's doubles final, the Indian duo of Prakash Raj and Gouse Shaik lost to Julien Maio and William Villeger of France, 9-21, 14-21, to settle for a runner-up finish.

Indian Squash Players Triumph at Asian Squash Doubles Championship 2024

  • Indian squash players secured two titles at the Asian Squash Doubles Championship 2024 held at the Arena Emas in Johor, Malaysia. The Indian team clinched victories in both the men's doubles and mixed doubles categories.

Lewis Hamilton Wins the British Grand Prix 2024

  • Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton's trophy drought of 945 days finally ended as he won the British Grand Prix on Sunday, July 7. Hamilton beat Max Verstappen to the title despite the latter's late charge, his ninth at Silverstone, the most for any racer on any track as the British Driver scripted F1 history. It has been a long wait for Hamilton, who had not won a title for 945 days since Saudi Arabia in 2021 and was tied on eight wins on a single track with Michael Schumacher, who had won the French Grand Prix on eight occasions.

  • Ukraine's Yaroslava Mahuchikh set a new world record in the women's high jump, clearing 2.10 meters at the Paris Diamond League and broke the record of Bulgarian Stefka Kostadinova, which stood since 1987.

Sable Breaks National Record

  • Avinash Sable showed that he's peaking at the right time before the Paris Olympics as he broke his own 3000m steeplechase national record while finishing sixth at the prestigious Diamond League meet, clocking 8 minutes and 9.91 seconds. Sable bettered his earlier mark of 8:11.20, which he had clocked in 2022.
  • Abrham Sime of Ethiopia finished first with a personal best time of 8:02.36 after a photo finish with Kenya's Amos Serem (8:02.36). Kenya's Abraham Kibiwot, the 2023 World Championships bronze medallist and gold winner at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, was third with a time of 8:06.70.
  • This was the 10th national record-breaking performance from Sable, who hails from a humble farmer's family at Mandwa village in Beed district of Maharashtra.

Abhishek Sharma Hits 46-ball 100, Equals KL Rahul's Record

  • India batter Abhishek Sharma scored the third fastest hundred for India in T20Is off just 46 balls, equalling KL Rahul's record. Abhishek reached the milestone in the second T20I of the five-match series against Zimbabwe.
  • The record for fastest hundred for India in T20Is is with Rohit Sharma, who hit a century off just 35 balls against Sri Lanka in 2017. The next is Suryakumar Yadav with a century off 45 balls against same opposition as Rohit in 2023.
  • Rahul had scored his 46-ball ton against West Indies in 2016.

Harmanpreet Kaur to Lead India in Women's T20 Asia Cup

  • Harmanpreet Kaur will lead a 15-member India squad, which is currently doing duty in the ongoing T20I series against South Africa in Chennai, for the 2024 Women's T20 Asia Cup.
  • Dashing opener Smriti Mandhana, was named the vice-captain.
  • Besides the 15 players in the main squad, Shweta Sehrawat, Saika Ishaque, Tanuja Kanwer and Meghna Singh have been included as travelling reserves.
  • India has been clubbed in Group A of the tournament, along with arch-rival Pakistan (July 19), UAE (July 21) and Nepal (July 23).
  • The 2024 Women's Twenty20 Asia Cup will be the ninth edition of the Women's Asia Cup, scheduled to be played by eight teams (Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and United Arab Emirates) from July 19 to 28, 2024 in Sri Lanka.

  • Long jump national record holder Aldrin and Ankita's name figured in the latest list published by World Athletics (WA) after the national federations notified the international body about their athletes who will not compete in Paris due to various reasons despite making the cut.

Four Different Venues to Host Durand Cup 2024 Starting July 27

  • The Durand Cup 2024 football tournament will start from July 27 with the final scheduled at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) in Kolkata on August 31. First played in 1888, the Durand Cup is India's oldest football tournament and serves as the opener for the Indian domestic season. The upcoming edition will be the 133rd edition of the legacy competition.
  • Durand Cup 2024 will feature a total of 43 matches, played in a round-robin league-cum-knockout format.
  • There will be 24 teams competing, divided into six groups of four teams each. Six group toppers and two best second-placed sides will make the knockout stage.
  • Jamshedpur and Shillong have been added as host cities for the 133rd edition, further expanding the tournament in India's eastern and northeastern regions.
  • Kokrajhar, Shillong and Jamshedpur will host one group each while matches of the remaining three groups will be played in Kolkata. Reigning champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant are the most successful team in the competition with 17 titles closely followed by arch-rivals East Bengal, who have 16 trophies.
