Denmark Launches Sovereign AI Supercomputer Initiative

Denmark recently introduced its own artificial intelligence supercomputer. This initiative is funded by profits from popular weight-loss drugs like Ozempic. The aim is to enhance research in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. The supercomputer will also support various fields where AI can be beneficial. This launch is part of a broader trend among nations to develop sovereign AI capabilities.
Supercomputers are essential for processing vast amounts of data. They enable the training of advanced AI models. However, the cost of developing these systems is rising. Estimates indicate that the price may exceed $1 billion for necessary hardware and staff. This financial barrier poses challenges for many nations.

Amazon Launches Facility in Bengaluru to Train School Students in Tech

Amazon India launched a facility in Bengaluru that will provide "underserved" school students free, hands-on learning in robotics, computing, artificial intelligence (AI) and 3D printing.
Amazon Future Engineer Makerspace will empower more than 4,000 young innovators by 2025. The facility will work with The Innovation Story, a group comprising educators, to provide underserved students in Classes 5 to 12 with immersive, hands-on learning experiences, nurturing their curiosity and equipping them with innovative technological skills to become future change-makers.

SpaceX Launches Koreasat-6A Successfully

The Koreasat 6A communications satellite was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Commissioned by KT SAT Corporation Ltd., South Korea's national satellite operator, the satellite was developed by Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales and Leonardo.
Thales Alenia Space, as the prime contractor, managed the satellite's design, construction, and launch preparation. Positioned at 116° East in geostationary orbit, Koreasat 6A replaces the previous Koreasat 6, providing essential fixed and broadcast services across South Korea.

DBS Bank Nominates Rajat Verma as Next India Unit CEO

DBS's India unit nominated its head of institutional banking, Rajat Verma, to be the bank's new Chief Executive Officer.
He is slated to replace Surojit Shome, who plans to retire after leading DBS Bank India since 2015. Verma's nomination has been submitted to the Reserve Bank of India.
Verma was appointed DBS managing director and head of institutional banking for India last year (2023).

A team of astronomers uncovered an Earth-like planet orbiting a star located 4,000 light years away from the solar system, potentially offering insights into Earth's distant future. The rocky planet, about the same mass as Earth, revolves around a white dwarf in the constellation Sagittarius.
The discovery brings a glimmer of hope for Earth's survival when the sun enters its final stages. It suggests that Earth could potentially avoid being consumed by the expanding sun, opening up possibilities for human migration to the outer solar system, with moons such as Europa, Callisto, and Ganymede around Jupiter, or Enceladus near Saturn, becoming possible havens for future generations.

Organised by students since 2012, ATMOS has evolved into one of India's most awaited tech events, offering not only technical competitions but also cultural and recreational activities.
Students demonstrated their diverse skills at this event, which has been organised by students since its inception in 2012.
