China and Egypt achieved a significant breakthrough in their collaborative efforts with the successful launch of the MisrSat-2 satellite. Developed and assembled jointly by the two nations, this marked a pivotal moment in their burgeoning space partnership. The satellite, assembled in Egypt with Chinese support, was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China, utilising the Long March-2C carrier rocket.
The MisrSat-2 project, valued at $72 million, originated from a 2019 agreement between the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) and the China National Space Administration.
MisrSat-2, an optical remote-sensing satellite, is equipped with a high-resolution camera capable of capturing detailed images of Egypt's soil and water resources.
The satellite's primary purpose extends to supporting Egypt's sustainable development goals in agriculture, mining, water management, and environmental protection.

China Launches Deepest Lab on Earth
The world's deepest and largest underground laboratory became operational in China, the 2,400-metre-deep physics laboratory in located in southwest China's Sichuan Province.
The Deep Underground and Ultra-low Radiation Background Facility for Frontier Physics Experiments (DURF) is located beneath Jinping Mountain in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture.
As per reports, the scientists think that the lab provides a major boost to the global search for dark matter, which is a hypothetical form of matter that appears not to interact with light or the electromagnetic field.
It is expected that the lab will open up new frontiers in deep-earth experiments as the extreme depth will help the scientists by blocking most cosmic rays that mess with the observation.

Meta Platforms, IBM Create Industry Wide AI Alliance to Share Technology
Meta Platforms Inc. and International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) are joining more than 40 companies and organisations to create an industry group dedicated to open source artificial intelligence work, aiming to share technology and reduce risks.
The coalition, called the AI Alliance, will focus on the responsible development of AI technology, including safety and security tools. The group also will look to increase the number of open source AI models, rather than the proprietary systems favoured by some companies, develop new hardware and team up with academic researchers.

Fusion Milestone: Japan Unveils JT-60SA, the World's Largest Experimental Nuclear Fusion Reactor
Japan unveiled the world's largest operational experimental nuclear fusion reactor. This colossal machine, dubbed JT-60SA, is housed in a hangar north of Tokyo in Naka, and represents a pivotal moment in the quest for clean and limitless power.
Unlike traditional nuclear fission used in power plants, which splits atomic nuclei, fusion mimics the sun's energy production by merging two nuclei, potentially offering a safer and more abundant energy source.
The JT-60SA, a six-story-high tokamak, is designed to contain and control plasma heated to a staggering 200 million degrees Celsius. The objective is to explore the viability of fusion as a secure, expansive, and carbon-neutral net energy source, where the energy produced surpasses is more than the input required for its production.
