Asian Games gold medalist and Padma Shri awardee Bahadur Singh Sagoo was elected unanimously as the new president of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI). Sagoo, who won gold in shot put at the 2002 Asian Games, took over from outgoing president Adille Sumariwalla, who stepped down after serving three consecutive terms.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports Mansukh Mandaviya chaired the 152nd Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) meeting at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in the presence of eminent sportspersons, administrators and coaches.
The main agenda of the meeting was introduction of members for the newly-constituted MOC and planning for Los Angeles 2028 towards improving India's medal tally at the Olympics.
