The World's Most and Least Powerful Passports

Japan, Singapore and South Korea have the most powerful passports as the world continues to recover from Covid-19, reversing pre-pandemic rankings that were dominated by European nations.
A Japanese passport provides hassle-free entry to 193 countries, one more than those from Singapore and South Korea, according to the latest Henley Passport Index from Henley & Partners, an immigration consultancy, released in July 2022.
Russian travel documents are ranked 50th, giving easy access to 119 nations. China placed 69th with access to 80 countries, India's passport ranked 87th and Afghanistan's passport is the least useful, getting the holder into only 27 countries.

Union Minister Bhupender Yadav Attends BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers' Meeting

Union Labour and Employment Minister Bhupender Yadav attended the BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers' Meeting held under the Chinese Presidency. The Ministers of the member countries Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa participated in the meeting. The discussions were held on three priority issues, namely - promoting green jobs for sustainable development, developing skills for resilient recovery, and protecting workers right in new forms of employment.
Mr. Yadav highlighted the steps taken by India to provide relief to workers during the pandemic. He also mentioned various initiatives taken towards providing free rations, enhancing the number of days of assured employment under MNREGA, and collateral-free loans provided to street vendors to help them resume their businesses under PM SVANidhi Yojana during the pandemic.

Outgoing UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson Narrowly Survives No-confidence Vote

Outgoing UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson survived a 'no-confidence' vote called by the opposition amid the ongoing campaign to pick his successor. Johnson won by 111 votes, with 349 for and 238 against, meaning the ruling Conservative Party will remain in office while it elects a new leader to replace Johnson after he quit earlier this month.
The Conservatives' win means the opposition - Labour - cannot force a general election, since the rules say another 'no confidence' vote can only be called 12 months later.
Britain avoided a general election, which would have been its third in the past five years.

Expat Insider Rankings for 2022: India Ranks 36th

Mexico topped the Expat Insider Rankings for 2022, which was released by the InterNations, while India was ranked on 36th position out of the 52 countries on the list, with a high affordability score. Kuwait was the worst country for expats in the ranking.
The top 10 countries were: Mexico, Indonesia, Taiwan, Portugal, Spain, UAE, Vietnam, Thailand, Australia and Singapore.
The Expat Insider survey is conducted every year by InterNations, a community for expatriates.
The survey takes a look at some of the best possible ex-pat destinations around the world, which offer the best quality of life to the people who move abroad to improve their quality of life.
The Expat Insider 2022 survey report surveyed 11,970 respondents to evaluate their life abroad. These respondents represented 177 nationalities and lived in 181 countries or territories worldwide.
A total of 52 countries have been ranked on the list.

Leaders Vow for Security, Stability in Middle East at Jeddah Summit

A statement was announced following the Jeddah Summit for Security and Development, emphasising the importance to take the required measures to protect the security and stability in the Middle East.
Hosted by Saudi Arabia, the summit was attended by leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and the US.
The summit reviewed global challenges and regional affairs, while the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to guarantee the region's security and stability.

Sri Lankan Speaker Officially Announces Resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa

Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigned, Parliament Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena officially announced, after a week of dramatic developments and massive protests against the government for mishandling the economy that bankrupted the country.
The 73-year-old leader emailed his resignation letter to the Speaker soon after he was allowed by Singapore to enter the city-state on a private visit.
The Speaker had received the resignation letter from Rajapaksa through the Sri Lanka High Commission in Singapore.

Sri Lanka Crisis: After Rajapaksa Quits, Wickremesinghe sworn-in as Acting President

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as Sri Lanka's interim President until Parliament elects a successor to Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who resigned after mass protests over the country's economic collapse forced him from office.
The speaker of Sri Lanka's Parliament said Rajapaksa resigned as president effective Thursday and lawmakers will convene Saturday to choose a new leader. Their choice would serve out the remainder of Rajapaksa's term ending in 2024, said Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana. He expects the process to be done in seven days.

Italian PM Mario Draghi to Quit after 5-Star Mutiny

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said that he would resign after the 5-Star Movement, a party in his ruling coalition failed to support a confidence vote, plunging Italy into political chaos.
The confidence vote had become a focal point for tensions within Draghi's government as its parties prepare to fight each other in a national election due by early 2023.
The decision by the 5-Star party to boycott the confidence vote triggered the sequence of events that prompted the 74-year-old Draghi to say he would quit.
Draghi said that he would not want to lead a government without 5-Star, which emerged as the largest party in the previous election in 2018 but has since suffered defections and a loss of public support.
