NASA Appoints Indian-origin Amit Kshatriya to Head 'Moon to Mars' Programme

Amit Kshatriya, a decorated Indian-American software and robotics engineer was appointed as the first head of NASA's newly-established Moon to Mars Programme that will help the agency ensure a long-term lunar presence needed to prepare for humanity's next giant leap to the Red Planet.
Kshatriya will serve as NASA's first head of the office.
The new office aims to carry out the agency's human exploration activities on the Moon and Mars for the benefit of humanity.

Indian-Origin Scientist Creates World's First Energy-Saving Paint

A brand-new heat-repelling paint that is available in any colour and is expected to last for centuries was developed by an Indian-origin scientist. Moreover, it is the world's lightest paint.
Professor Debashis Chanda of the University of Central Florida's NanoScience Technology Centre used the inspiration of butterflies to develop the first environmentally sound, mass-produced, and multicoloured substitute for pigment-based colourants, which can aid in energy-saving initiatives and counteract global warming.

ISRO Conducts Reusable Launch Vehicle Autonomous Landing Mission

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully conducted the autonomous test landing mission of the Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV) at the Aeronautical Test Range (ATR) in Karnataka's Chitradurga.
Along with ISRO, Indian Air Force (IAF), Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC), Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), and Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE) contributed to this test.

Space System Design Lab Inaugurated in Ahmedabad

To boost the growth and contribution of India's private sector space firms and thereby increase India's share in the global space economy, a new Space Systems Design lab was inaugurated in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. An initiative of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe), the lab was inaugurated by S. Somanath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Pawan Goenka, Chairman, IN-SPACe. IN-SPACe is an autonomous nodal agency under the Department of Space, the Government of India, and it works towards facilitating the participation of private firms in space activities.

Astronomers Discover One of the Biggest Black Holes

One of the largest black holes ever recorded was discovered using a new technique that could spot thousands more of the insatiable celestial monsters in the coming years, according to astronomers.
The ultramassive black hole, one of just four ever observed, is more than 30 billion times the mass of the Sun.
It is the first black hole ever observed using a phenomenon called gravitational lensing, in which light travelling towards us from a distant galaxy appears to magnify and bend inwards, giving away the presence of a dark giant.

NASA to Send 4 Humans to Live on Mars

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is preparing four individuals to live on Mars in June 2023. The four "Martians" will be a part of NASA's human exploration trip on Mars, even though the American space agency has long sought to send humans to the neighbouring planet. Also, NASA has sent satellites, the InSight lander, a rover mission with the Perseverance rover, the Ingenuity small robotic helicopter, and related delivery systems, all of which are intended to provide the Red Planet with its first comprehensive examination. The four volunteers are a part of a 12-month project to get people ready for visiting Mars. When humans eventually land on Mars, they will do so in a habitat that replicates the circumstances there.

Scientists Find Reservoir Containing Substantial Quantities of Water on Moon

Researchers discovered water trapped in tiny beads spread across the surface of the Moon. It is based on samples of the lunar surface brought back by China's Chang'e 5 mission. The beads embedded in the surface contained substantial quantities of water.
Researchers saw microscopic droplets trapped in minerals in the samples. They said that the discovery may help in better understanding of the Earth's neighbour and space missions that could use it as a habitat.
For years, it was believed that Moon is dry but space missions in the last few decades found water trapped inside the surface.
