DIPAM Organises Conference on the Theme "Creating Wealth through Market"

  • In the context of "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM)" celebrations, Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) organised a conference on the theme "Creating Wealth through Market" as an iconic event in 75 cities across the country.
  • DIPAM took the initiative of educating and empowering people in 75 cities across India about investments and creating wealth as well as on the steps taken by the government for ensuring financial growth of her citizens.
  • The Conference programme included live Inaugural Addresses by Hon'ble Finance Minister and Hon'ble Minister of State (Finance), followed by a session at the local venue in 75 cities with eminent speakers comprising of financial Experts/ Professionals/ Bankers/ Influencers etc.

Ex-registrar of MSU, N. J. Ojha Appointed as MGNREGA Ombudsman

  • Ex-registrar of MSU, N. J. Ojha was appointed as ombudsman under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) for a 2-year term. An ombudsman has the power to receive complaints from MGNREGA workers, consider such complaints, pass awards within 30 days from the date of receipt of complaint and issue direction for conducting spot investigation and also initiate proceedings 'suo motu' if there are any grievance including on issues related to delayed payment of wages or non-payment of unemployment allowance. The ombudsman must report his award to the district programme coordinator of the district and secretary of state nodal department. If the need arises, he can mark a copy to the chief secretary.
  • MGNREGA was launched in 2005 to augment employment generation and social security in India. It is a demand-driven wage employment scheme under Ministry of Rural Development.

Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao Gears up for 2024 Lok Sabha Polls, to Launch National Party

  • Ahead of the election for the next President of India, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao is all set to launch a national party this month. The name of the new political party is likely to be `Bharatiya Rastra Samiti`. KCR had met several opposition leaders, and the move is seen as a longer stride to gather opposition leaders just ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
  • According to reports, Telangana NRIs from across the world unanimously adopted a resolution in support of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao`s decision to foray into national politics.Telangana NRIs coordinator B Ganesh moved a resolution seeking the support of NRIs to TRS Supremo and KCR`s move to enter into national politics in a Zoom meeting attended by NRIs from different countries.

PM Modi Inaugurates Biotech Startup Expo - 2022 in New Delhi

  • PM Modi inaugurated the Biotech Startup Expo 2022 at New Delhi's Pragati Maidan organised by the Department of Biotechnology to celebrate 10 years of Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), showcasing 75 successful startups supported by the agency. He also launched a Biotech products e-portal of 750 biotech products.
  • Speaking of India's bio-economy, the Prime Minister said that India have grown from $10 billion to $80 billion and we are not too far from reaching the league of top-10 countries in biotech's global ecosystem.
  • In the last eight years, the number of startups in our country increased from a few hundred to 70,000. These 70,000 startups are made in about 60 different industries. In this also, more than 5,000 startups are associated with biotech.

NHAI Sets New Guinness World Record, Lays 75-km Long Highway in 105 Hours

  • A new Guinness World Record was created by NHAI in laying 75 km of bituminous concrete in a single lane on NH53 in 105 hours and 33 minutes. Commemorating 75 years of India's independence and under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, NHAI created a world record that was certified by the Guinness World Records.
  • Gadkari congratulated all the engineers, contractors, consultants, and workers from NHAI and Raj Path Infracon Pvt Ltd for the efficient implementation of the project that has helped in the successful completion of this world record. The project was implemented by 720 workers including a team of independent consultants who worked day and night to complete this task.

Presidential Election 2022 to be Held on 18 July

  • The election to choose the next President of India will be held on July 18 and the results will be announced on July 21, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced. The term of President Ram Nath Kovind ends on July 24. Ram Nath Kovind had received over 65% votes in 2017. Electoral college for President's Election comprises 776 MPs and 4033 MLAs, Total 4809. President is elected by an Electoral College, which consists of the elected members of both Houses of Parliament and the elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of all the States and Union Territories.
  • Commission directed to ensure the use of eco-friendly and biodegradable materials and eliminate the use of prohibited plastic/materials, as a part of its endeavor to make elections eco-friendly. Nomination can be filed either by the candidate himself or by any of his proposers or seconders between 11 am to 3 pm on the specified days.

International Aluminium Institute Elects Satish Pai as New Chairman

  • The International Aluminium Institute (IAI), the only body representing the global primary aluminium industry, announced the appointment of Satish Pai as its new Chair. He is the Managing Director of Hindalco Industries, one of the world's largest integrated producers of aluminium. Earlier serving as Vice Chairman, he succeeds Ben Kahrs, Chief Innovation Officer, Alcoa Corporation. An engineer by education and profession, Satish earlier worked with Schlumberger, based out of Paris, where he was responsible for Schlumberger's operations globally.
  • The IAI's purpose is to promote the sustainable development of the aluminium industry and to increase demand for aluminium products by raising awareness of their unique and valuable properties.

AAP Dissolves Gujarat State Unit to Form New Committees ahead of Assembly Polls

  • Two days after Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal held a Tiranga Yatra in Gujarat, the party dissolved all the state committees and frontal committees, except for the post of state president, keeping an eye on a major overhaul in the state unit ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
  • AAP Gujarat state president, Gopal Italia announced the party's decision in this regard in Ahmedabad and said that soon a bigger and new structure will be put in place keeping an eye on the upcoming Gujarat state assembly elections, likely to be held in December this year.
  • There were about 100 members in the state executive and hundreds of other members in frontal organisations like media cell, legal committee, women's cell, farmers wing, SC/ST cell and OBC cell, among others. Apart from the state executive, district and taluka committees have also been dissolved.

  • The Blue Duke butterfly was declared the state butterfly of Sikkim based on an online poll.
  • Sikkim is home to many species of butterflies due to its rich biodiversity.
  • Blue Duke butterfly, also known as Bassarona durga, is a species of nymphalid butterfly found in the Himalayas.
  • The Blue Duke butterfly is extensively found in Sikkim, Abor Hills and Nagaland.

President Ram Nath Kovind Addresses the Centenary Celebrations of Gita Press at Gorakhpur

  • The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind graced and addressed the centenary celebrations of Gita Press at Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. Speaking on the occasion, the President said that Gita Press has played a very important role in taking the spiritual and cultural knowledge of India to the masses through its publications. He noted that the intention behind the establishment of Gita Press was to make available Gita in pure form with right meaning and at low price to masses which were not easily available at that time. It is a matter of great pride for all of us that a small initiative started from Kolkata is now well known for its work all over India.
