China's Only Woman Spaceflight Engineer among Crew To Tiangong Space Station

Three Chinese astronauts including the country's only woman spaceflight engineer blasted off on a "dream" mission to the Tiangong space station.
The new Tiangong team will carry out experiments with an eye to the space programme's ambitious goal of placing astronauts on the Moon by 2030 and eventually constructing a lunar base.
Among the crew is Wang Haoze who is China's only female spaceflight engineer, according to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA). She is the third Chinese woman to take part in a crewed mission.

Sarvam AI Launches New Language Model for Indian Languages

Bengaluru-based start-up Sarvam AI launched a new large language model, Sarvam 1. The AI model is open-source and has been trained on 11 languages including Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Oriya, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi and English.
The 2-billion-parameter model was trained on 4 trillion tokens on a custom tokeniser curated by Sarvam on Nvidia H100 Tensor Core GPUs. The company claims that the tokeniser is up to four times more efficient than other AI models which were trained on Indian languages.

Amaravati Drone Summit Exceeds Expectations

The Amaravati Drone Summit 2024, hosted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, surpassed all expectations, drawing an impressive turnout of over 11,000 visitors. K. Dinesh Kumar, Managing Director of the AP Drone Corporation, hailed the two-day event as a resounding success, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to its achievement, during his concluding remarks at the summit at Mangalagiri.
The summit, aligned with the vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, was a platform to explore advancements in drone technology and its applications across sectors.

Infosys Collaborates with University of Cambridge to Establish AI Lab in London

Infosys, a next-generation digital services and consulting on October 24 unveiled its new and expanded Living Labs, part of a network of over 12 established centres globally, to help clients accelerate innovation and leverage emerging technologies for future-proofing their business.
Infosys also announced collaboration with University of Cambridge to establish a new AI Lab, aimed at harnessing the power of AI to drive positive impact for clients, academia, and students.
The education and research collaboration with University of Cambridge to establish a joint AI Lab will draw from Infosys' industry expertise and practical application of AI as well as Cambridge University's world-class education and research capabilities to help address real-world challenges. This new lab will also be a catalyst for cutting-edge research and innovation initiatives.

Google Appoints Prabhakar Raghavan as New Chief Technologist

In a major leadership change, Google named Prabhakar Raghavan as its new Chief Technologist. Previously serving as Senior Vice President overseeing Google Search, Assistant, Geo, Ads, Commerce, and Payments products, Raghavan has stepped into his new role, replacing long time Google executive Nick Fox.
Raghavan's appointment came at a time when Google's core search business is facing mounting competition from tech giants like Microsoft and OpenAI, along with emerging startups such as Perplexity. Shifts in user behaviour are also influencing the company's strategic moves.
Raghavan joined Google in 2012 after holding key roles at Yahoo, where he worked on search ranking, ad systems, and marketplace design.
