Indian Challenge Ends in Hong Kong Open

India's challenge at the Hong Kong Open Super 500 tournament ended after two women's doubles pairs lost in the pre-quarterfinals. Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand were no match for seventh seeds Apriyani Rahayu and Siti Fadia Silva Ranadhanti of Indonesia, losing 8-21 14-21 in just 36 minutes. Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa lost 18-21 7-21 to top seeds Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahar of Japan in just 38 minutes.

Sunil Chhetri Only Notable Face in 18-member Indian Football Squad for Asian Games

Veteran striker Sunil Chhetri was the only notable face in the 18-member Indian squad for the Hangzhou Asian Games as All India Football Federation (AIFF) finally managed to stich a second-rung team, but there is still a big question mark on head coach Igor Stimac accompanying the team.
The Indian team is scheduled to begin its Asian Games campaign with a match against China on September 19, followed by games against Bangladesh (September 21) and Myanmar (September 24).

Kiran George Clinches Indonesian Masters title 2023 in Badminton

Indian badminton player Kiran George secured a remarkable victory at the Indonesia Masters 2023, held in Medan, North Sumatra. Competing at the GOR PBSI Pancing Court, Kiran George, currently ranked 50th in the badminton rankings, displayed exceptional prowess as he defeated world No. 82 Koo Takahashi of Japan with a score of 21-19, 22-20. This triumph marked Kiran George's second BWF World Tour Super 100 badminton title, following his victory at the Odisha Open the previous year (2022), where he defeated compatriot Priyanshu Rawat in the final.

Maharashtra Wins 5th National Wheelchair Rugby Championship

Maharashtra won the 5th National Wheelchair Rugby Championship 2023 by securing a convincing victory over Karnataka, concluding with a final score of 31-10. This championship, which took place at Balewadi in Pune from September 10 to September 11, 2023, was marked by intense competition and served as a testament to the impressive development of wheelchair rugby in India.
The 5th National Wheelchair Rugby Championship 2023 was organized by The Indian Rugby Football Union (Rugby India), the governing body for rugby in India. It was conducted in association with the Wheelchair Rugby Federation of India and Mitsubishi Corporation. This collaborative effort aimed to promote and expand the sport of wheelchair rugby across the nation.
The 5th National Wheelchair Rugby Championship 2023 marked a significant milestone for wheelchair rugby in India. With participants from 14 states, it became the largest national wheelchair event ever hosted by Rugby India. The states that took part in this prestigious competition were Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and the host state, Maharashtra.

Former Wimbledon Champion Simona Halep Gets Four-year Ban

Former world number one Simona Halep was given a four-year suspension from tennis following breaches of the sport's anti-doping programme, the International Tennis Integrity Agency said.
The Romanian tested positive for the banned substance roxadustat last year (2022) and was charged with a separate second anti-doping breach in May relating to irregularities in her athlete biological passport (ABP).
Halep, a two-time Grand Slam singles champion, had been provisionally suspended since October 2022. An independent tribunal said this would count in her period of full suspension, which will now run from October 7, 2022 to October 6, 2026.

Virat Kohli Becomes Fastest to Reach 13,000 ODI Runs

India's Virat Kohli became the fastest batter to reach 13,000 ODI runs during the Asia Cup Super 4 against Pakistan at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The 34-year-old record of fellow Indian veteran Sachin Tendulkar (321 innings), was achieved by Kohli in just 267 innings. He reached his 47th ton in ODIs. With this century, Kohli has now scored four consecutive 100s at this stadium, the joint-most highest centuries at a single venue alongside South African great Hashim Amla. The other three tons were against Sri Lanka— two of which came in 2017 and one in 2012.
Kohli completed 13,000 ODI runs, becoming the fifth player to reach the landmark in men's ODIs. Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Sanath Jayasuriya and Mahela Jayawardene are the others before him to reach the milestone. He became the quickest batter to reach this mileston, Ponting (341) and Sangakkara (363) took over 300 innings too while Jayasuriya reached the mark in 416 innings.

Basketball Germany Beat Serbia to Win World Cup for First Time

Germany beat Serbia 83-77 and lifted basketball's 2023 FIBA World Cup. Germany went 8-0 in the tournament, becoming the fifth consecutive World Cup champion to go unbeaten. The tournament most valuable player Dennis Schroder carried Germany with a game-high 28 points, way above his average of 17.9 points per game, and added two rebounds and two assists.
The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup was the 19th tournament of the FIBA Basketball World Cup for men's national basketball teams. The tournament was the second to feature 32 teams and was hosted by multiple nations for the first time in its history—the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia—from 25 August to 10 September 2023.

VVS Laxman and Hrishikesh Kanitkar Named Coaches for India's Men's and Women's Teams at Asian Gam...

VVS Laxman and Hrishikesh Kanitkar will go to the 2023 Asian Games, which will be held in Hangzhou, China, as the men's and women's teams' head coaches, respectively. The men's team bowling coach is Sairaj Bahutule, while their fielding coach is Munish Bali. Rajib Dutta is the bowling coach for the women's team, and Subhadeep Ghosh the fielding coach.
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Harmanpreet Kaur are the captains of Indian men's and women's teams.
Both India's men's and women's teams will enter the Asian Games 2023 at the quarter-finals stage.

SAFF U16 Championship Final: India Crowned Champions after Beating Bangladesh

India secured the championship title by triumphing over Bangladesh with a 2-0 victory in the final match of the SAFF U-16 Championship 2023, which took place at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan.
Under the guidance of head coach Ishfaq Ahmed, the Blue Colts claimed the top position in Group A. They secured hard-fought 1-0 victories against Bangladesh and Nepal, followed by a commanding performance that saw them net eight goals against the Maldives in the semi-finals. Remarkably, the team achieved this remarkable feat without allowing a single goal against them throughout the entire tournament.
