Indonesian scientists have found the world's smallest squirrel (The Bormean pigmy squirrel or exilisciurus exilis) in the country's Borneo rain forest.
The species is 73 mm long and weighs about 17 grams.

Presence of Lethal Pollutants over Asia
A study jointly conducted by experts from the Indian Space Research Organisation and National Aeronautics and Space Administration of the US have confirmed the presence aerosol layer over the Asia region.
This layer contains particles of size less than 0.25 micron and are 90 per cent volatile.
The new finding has also confirmed the presence of nitrate, which as per experts is concerning as the rise in the presence of pollutants can eventually become lethal.

August Declared Second Hottest in 137 Years
As per an analysis of global temperatures by NASA scientists, last month was the second hottest August in 137 years of record.
August 2017 was 0.85 degrees Celsius warmer than the mean August temperature from 1951-1980.
The modern global temperature record begins around 1880 because previous observations did not cover enough of the planet.

Iceberg Twice the Size of London
An iceberg more than twice the size of London is adrift at sea after splitting from the Antarctic.
The iceberg, dubbed A68, split from the Larsen C ice shelf and is adrift in the adjacent Weddell Sea.
This was the third major split from the Antarctic in just over two decades.

Decline in Hector's Dolphin Population
An environmental organisation revealed that the Hector's dophin population, which lives only in the waters of New Zealand, has reduced by 80 per cent in the last 50 years.
It is estimated that there are currently only some 9,000 Hector's dolphins (Cephalorhynchus hectori) left, after a drastic population decrease from the 50,000 estimated in 1970, which has placed it on the list of endangered species of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
