Uttarakhand Officer Leverages Technology to Prevent Forest Fires
In an effort to combat increasing forest fires, an Indian Forest Service (IFoS) officer from Uttarakhand, Vaibhav Singh, developed an advanced Forest Fire App. Inspired by technologies used in Canada, Australia, and South Africa, this innovative tool significantly enhances fire detection, response efficiency, and real-time tracking of fire fighting teams. The Uttarakhand Forest Department has adopted this app, integrating 7,000 forest staff and planning further expansion.

From 1993 to 2022, India recorded over 400 extreme weather events, leading to nearly 80,000 deaths and an estimated economic loss of $180 billion. The frequency of these disasters is increasing, raising serious concerns about the country's preparedness and response.

Tropical Cyclone Zelia made landfall on Australia's west coast, lashing the world's largest iron ore hub with heavy rain and wind gusts up to 290 kph (180 mph).
The eye of the category five storm, the highest rating on the scale, crossed the coast east of Port Hedlan), sparing the town's population centre from the cyclone's most destructive winds.
Cyclone Zelia is the most severe storm to hit the Pilbara coast since Cyclone Ilsa in April 2023.

Decks Cleared in Madhya Pradesh for World's Largest Groundwater Recharge
The decks were cleared for the ambitious Tapti Mega Recharge Project, with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announcing that his government had "removed all obstacles" for the interstate project with Maharashtra and is now heading towards an agreement.
The announcement came following a meeting of the state Cabinet. The project is meant to supply water to Maharashtra's northern region and Madhya Pradesh's southern areas. It is also aimed at addressing drinking water concerns in Nagpur, Maharashtra, and irrigation needs in Chhindwara.
According to the Madhya Pradesh government, once signed and implemented, it will be the world's largest groundwater recharge.
