World Pickleball League Announces Jio World Garden as Official Venue for Season 2

The World Pickleball League (WPBL) announced Jio World Garden as the host venue for Season 2, set to take place in Mumbai from January 24 to February 8, 2026.
With six competing teams, marquee players, celebrity franchise owners, and India's fastest-growing sport at its core, World Pickleball League Season 2 will be the first-ever franchise sports league to be held at Jio World Garden, affirming its rising stature and ambition to deliver a premium, fan-first experience.

New Swimming Benchmarks Set by Srihari Nataraj and B. Benediction Rohit

India marked a significant milestone at the 32^nd edition of FISU World University Games 2025, held in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, as swimmers Srihari Nataraj and B. Benediction Rohit achieved record-breaking performances in their respective events. These achievements highlight India's growing presence in international swimming competitions and contribute to the country's expanding sports excellence profile.
Srihari Nataraj broke his own Best Indian Performance in the men's 200m freestyle by clocking 1:48.22, surpassing his earlier mark of 1:48.66. Similarly, Benediction Rohit created history by becoming the first Indian male swimmer to complete 50m butterfly in under 24 seconds, registering a time of 23.96 seconds in the semi-finals.
The FISU World University Games 2025 conclude on July 27, 2025.

Bihar Wins U18 Boys' Title at Junior National Rugby 7s Championship 2025

Bihar's rugby team clinched the U18 Boys' title at the 10th Junior National Rugby 7s Championship 2025, held in Dehradun, with a narrow 17–15 victory over defending champions Odisha. With this win, Bihar completed a double title sweep, having also won the Girls' U18 championship earlier.
The Junior National Rugby 7s Championship is India's premier youth rugby tournament and a critical stage for identifying future national-level talent.

Narayan Singh Deo Appointed Interim Chairperson of ISSF Panel

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) announced the appointment of its president Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, as the Interim Chairperson of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Committee on E-Sports, E-Games, and Technological Innovations.

World Championship of Legends 2025 Season

The second edition of the World Championship of Legends began with a high-octane clash between England Champions and Pakistan Champions at the iconic Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham.
The tournament features six teams, England, Pakistan, West Indies, South Africa, Australia and India, and is being held from July 18 to August 2 across four venues in the United Kingdom.
The league stage of the competition comprises 15 matches, with each team playing the other once. Following the completion of the league stage, the top four teams will advance to the semi-finals. The final is scheduled for August 2.

Chennai Open Returns after 3 Years - Highest ranking tennis event in India

The Government in the Southern Indian State of Tamil Nadu and the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA) announced the return of the Chennai Open International Women's Tennis Championships - a WTA 250 event, and the highest-ranking tennis event in India. Making the announcement, Indian tennis legend and TNTA President Vijay Amritraj said that the high-profile sporting event will be held in the state, coinciding with the Centenary year of the TNTA. The event is will be held at the SDAT Tennis Stadium in Chennai between October 27 and November 2, 2025.

The Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) announced the onboarding of Indian cricket legend and golf enthusiast Yuvraj Singh as a co-owner and brand ambassador.
To achieve its mission of strengthening the foundation of the sport in India, IGPL also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Golf Union (IGU)--the official governing body for men's amateur golf in India. Sunrisers Hyderabad roped in former India tearaway Varun Aaron as the new bowling coach ahead of the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League.
He represented Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings.

Renee Noronha is India's Youngest Female Ironman

Renee Noronha, a student of IIT Madras, has already conquered one of the world's most gruelling endurance challenges — not once, but twice. She's now officially India's youngest female Ironman, and her journey from a gymnast in Mumbai to the finish line of the Ironman Hamburg European Championship is nothing short of extraordinary.
Renee completed the triathlon — a 3.8 km swim, 180 km cycling, and a 42.2 km full marathon, all within a tight 17-hour window — in just 14 hours, shaving off over two and a half hours from her previous time at Ironman New Zealand.

Markram, Matthews Named Best Players for June 2025 by ICC

The International Cricket Council (ICC) named Aiden Markram from South Africa and Hayley Matthews from the West Indies as the Men's and Women's Players, respectively of the Month for June 2025. Their strong performances helped their teams win important matches, making a big impact in international cricket.
Aiden Markram was awarded the ICC Men's Player of the Month after his brilliant performance in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at Lord's, London. He scored 136 runs off 207 balls, sharing a 147-run partnership with captain Temba Bavuma, helping South Africa chase down 282 runs to win the match by five wickets.
Hayley Matthews, captain of the West Indies women's team, won the ICC Women's Player of the Month award. She scored 104 runs and took 4 wickets in the three-match ODI series against South Africa, including a half-century in the third game.
This is the fourth time Matthews has won this monthly award, making her the second player in history to achieve this after Australia's Ashleigh Gardner.

Kudermetova and Mertens win Wimbledon Women's Doubles Title

Eighth seeds Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens won their first Grand Slam as a pair, beating Hsieh Su-Wei and Jelena Ostapenko 3-6 6-2 6-4 in the Wimbledon women's doubles final.
It was the first major title for Russia's Kudermetova, who was on the losing side in the 2021 final against Mertens and Hsieh. The second Wimbledon crown for Belgian Mertens took her to five Grand Slam doubles titles.

Harikrishnan A Becomes India's 87th Grandmaster

Harikrishnan A. Ra., a chess player from Chennai, officially became India's 87th Grandmaster. He earned his final Grandmaster (GM) norm at the La Plagne International Chess Festival in France in July 2025, completing a long seven-year journey from International Master (IM) to GM.
Harikrishnan had been an International Master for seven years, chasing the Grandmaster title by competing in many tournaments. Despite coming close multiple times, he could not complete all three GM norms until now. Coached by Shyam Sundar, he kept working hard and stayed committed to his goal.

The 2025 Under-20 Wrestling Championship in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan concluded with the final bouts in the remaining five weight categories of Freestyle Wrestling. The Indian Under-20 freestyle wrestling team delivered a commendable performance, finishing second, securing a total of 2 gold, 1 silver, and 5 bronze medals, with an overall score of 157 points. Iran claimed the Championship Trophy.
