Indian Super League New Season Starts 7 October in Kochi
The 2022-23 Hero Indian Super League (ISL) kicks off on October 7, 2022 when last season's runners-up Kerala Blasters host East Bengal FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi, Kerala.
Featuring 117 matches of high-octane football action, the Hero ISL returns to entertain its fans across ten venues around the country. For the first time ever, the ISL league stage will run for close to five months apart from the playoffs, semi-finals and final. Each club will play 20 league matches - 10 each at home and away through the autumn till next spring as the league stage draws to a close on February 26th.

Colin de Grandhomme Retires from International Cricket
New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme announced his retirement from international cricket. The New Zealand Cricket (NZC) confirmed the development.
De Grandhomme retired with an impressive record, especially in the Tests. He represented New Zealand in 29 matches, scoring 1432 runs at 38.70 and picking up 49 wickets. He featured in 18 wins, playing a key role in the inaugural ICC World Test Championship campaign against India in Southampton.
The all-rounder also proved his mettle in the ODIs, scoring 742 runs in 45 games and scalping 30 wickets at an average of 41.00. He also played in 41 T20Is, scoring 505 runs at a strike rate of 138.35 and taking 12 wickets at 38.41.
Amlan Borgohain Breaks 100m National Record at All India Railway C'ships
Amlan Borgohain, who holds the 200m national record, added the 100m record to his name.
The 24-year-old from Assam clocked 10.25s (wind speed +1.8, legal) to break the six-year-old national record of Amiya Kumar Mallick (10.26s) at the 87th all-India inter-Railway athletics championships in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh.
Borgohain's previous best, 10.34s, came at the National Open in Warangal last year. However, it is not anywhere close to the entry standard (10.00s) for next year's World Championships in Budapest.

Rural Olympic Games Begin in Rajasthan
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot inaugurated month-long Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympic Games, for which around 30 lakh villagers have registered.
Gehlot inaugurated the event along with Sports Minister Ashok Chandana and state Sports Council Chairman Krishna Poonia.
Gehlot also announced to make the games an annual event and assured to organise similar sports events in urban areas.
Gehlot termed the event the first-of-its-kind in the entire country.
England's James Anderson Becomes most Successful Pacer in International Cricket
England's James Anderson became the first-ever fast bowler to complete 950 wickets in international cricket. He attained this historic feat on Day 3 of the second Test against South Africa. He broke the record of Australia's Glenn McGrath (949 wickets). The most successful bowlers in international cricket are Sri Lankan spin wizard, Muttiah Muralitharan (1,347 wickets), late Aussie spin great Shane Warne (1,001 wickets) and Indian spin great Anil Kumble (956 wickets).
Anderson, who marked his international debut in 2003, now has 951 wickets across formats at an average of 27.18.

FIFA Lifts Ban on All India Football Federation (AIFF)
World football governing body FIFA lifted the ban imposed on the AIFF after the Supreme Court terminated the mandate of the Committee of Administrators (CoA), clearing the decks for India to host the Women's U-17 World Cup in October.
The suspension, the first time in AIFF's 85-year history, lasted just 11 days after the Supreme Court on Monday dissolved the three-member CoA, constituted by it in May, while modifying its earlier orders to ensure that India hosts the FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup from October 11-30.
FIFA said it and the AFC will continue to monitor the situation and will support the AIFF in conducting its elections in a timely manner.
AIFF acting general secretary Sunando Dhar welcomed the move and thanked FIFA, AFC and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur for their roles in lifting the ban.

Virat Kohli Becomes 1st Indian to Play 100 Matches in Each Format
Virat Kohli became the first Indian and just the second player overall in international cricket history to have played 100 matches each in all three formats of the game. He added another milestone to his name when he was named in India's playing XI for the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2022 match with Pakistan.
Kohli has now 100 T20Is to his name in addition to 102 Tests and 262 ODIs since making his international debut in August 2008. His best individual score for India in this format is 94 and he has scored 30 half-centuries in this format. Kohli has an incredible record in T20I cricket for Team India having scored 3308 runs at an incredible average of 50.1.
Judo World Championships: Linthoi Chanambam Wins India's First-ever Gold Medal
Indian judoka Linthoi Chanambam scripted history by winning India's first-ever medal in Judo World Championships with a gold in the Women's 57kg category at the World Judo Cadet (U18) Championships. The Manipur teenager outclassed Brazil's Bianca Reis in the 57-kg category final.
She became the first Indian judoka to win a medal at any age-group category of the World Championships.
Adille Sumariwalla Takes over as President of Indian Olympic Association
The Indian Olympic Association co-opted Adille Sumariwalla as the President of the association till fresh elections are held.
In a letter addressed to the International Olympic Committee, Sumariwalla wrote, "The erstwhile President of the IOA, Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra, resigned from the post of President, IOA in July due to personal reasons, which led to a vacancy for the post of President, IOA.
Neeraj Chopra Wins Lausanne Diamond League Meet Title in Javelin Throw
Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra scripted history by winning the Lausanne Diamond League with a best throw of 89.04 metres in his first attempt. He became the first Indian to clinch a Diamond League Meet title.
With this victory, Chopra qualified for Diamond League Finals in Zurich. The Zurich finals will be held on September 7. He also qualified for the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Chopra qualified for the tournament by breaching the 85.20 metres qualifying mark in his first attempt.
BWF World Championships 2022
Denmark's Viktor Axelsen won his second badminton world title, beating Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn 21-5, 21-16 in the BWF World Championships 2022 final in Tokyo.
World number one Axelsen has lost only one singles match this season and was too much for 21-year-old rising star Vitidsarn, who was blown away in the first game.
Axelsen, who won Olympic gold last year, also claimed the world title in Glasgow in 2017.
Japan's Akane Yamaguchi retained her badminton women's world title in front of her home crowd in Tokyo, beating China's Chen Yufei 21-12, 10-21, 21-14.
The top-seeded Yamaguchi had won her first world title in 2021 in the Spanish city of Huelva.
