AIFF Launches Grassroots Football Development Scheme in Arunachal Pradesh
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) launched its grassroots football development (GFD) scheme in Arunachal Pradesh with an aim to tap, select and nurture football talents in the age group of 6 to 12 years.
GFD committee chairman Shantanu Pujari launched the scheme in the presence of Chief Minister Pema Khandu and AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey.
Khandu, who is also the honorary President of the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA), announced that the state government would begin this scheme in 100 schools, preferably government-run, very soon in consultation with the state's education department.

Bhowneesh Mendiratta won India's first Paris 2024 Olympics quota place in Shooting, after he finished a commendable fourth in the Men's Trap competition at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship Shotgun in Osijek, Croatia.
Bhowneesh missed a world championship medal narrowly in the process, being the first to bow out with 13 out of the first 15-hits in the 35-shot medal match.
T20 World Cup: Jasprit Bumrah Ruled Out
India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a back stress fracture, dealing a massive blow to team's chances at the ICC flagship event in Australia.
Bumrah will be forced out of action for six months due to the back injury.
Bumrah, who played the second and third T20 against Australia, didn't travel with the team to Thiruvananthapuram for the series-opener against South Africa.
Bumrah is the second senior star player to be ruled out after Ravindra Jadeja, who is recovering from a knee surgery.

PM Modi Declares 36th National Games Open
The 36th National Games was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a glittering opening ceremony in the presence of over 100,000 ecstatic spectators.
In keeping with the Olympic convention, but with a modern twist, Gujarat's swimming star Maana Patel brought in the symbolic Torch of Unity into the arena and handed it over to the Prime Minister.
Praising the theme behind the Games anthem, 'Judega India, Jitega India', the Prime Minister said that the National Games would act as a launch pad for every youngster.
The National Games, being held after seven years, will witness India's best athletes compete in 36 disciplines in six cities of Gujarat.

FIFA Honours Sunil Chhetri
World football governing body FIFA released a three-episode series on the life and career of talismanic Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri to honour his achievements and goal scoring exploits.
Chhetri, with 84 international goals to his name, is third in the list of active footballers with most international goals, behind Lionel Messi (90) and Cristiano Ronaldo (117).
The first episode leads up to his India debut. The second episode is about Chhetri doing wonders for the national team. In the third episode, Chhetri reached the zenith of his professional career.

West Zone Beat South Zone to Win 2022 Duleep Trophy
Ajinkya Rahane-led West Zone team defeated the Hanuma Vihari-led South Zone by 294 runs and won the Duleep Trophy for a record 19th time. The Rahane-led team wrapped the contest as they bowled out Vihari's team on 234 at SNR College Cricket Ground, Coimbatore. The match saw West Zone dominating after making a comeback into the game as they trailed in the first innings.
