World's Biggest Wind Turbines

  • The planet’s biggest and most powerful wind turbines have begun generating electricity off the Liverpool coast, cementing Britain’s reputation as a world leader in the technology.
  • Danish company Dong Energy has installed 32 turbines in Liverpool Bay that are taller than the Gherkin skyscraper, with blades longer than nine London buses.
  • The developer believes these machines herald the future for offshore wind power: bigger, better and, most importantly, cheaper.

World's Smallest Satellite

  • The world's lightest and smallest satellite, KalamSat, named after the former Indian President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, will be launched by NASA next month.
  • The satellite weighs just 0.1kg, and has been been built by an Indian teen Rifath Sharook, 12th-grade student.

Signs of Water Detected on Neptune-sized Planet

  • Scientists have detected a water signature on the atmosphere of a distant Neptune-sized planet that could help in exploring more about the birth and development of planetary systems.
  • A study shows that the distant planet HAT- P-26b has a primitive atmosphere composed almost entirely of hydrogen and helium.
  • Located about 437 light-years away, HAT-P-26b orbits a star roughly twice as old as our sun.

Massive Lava Waves on Jupiter's Moon

  • Scientists have spotted two massive waves sweeping across the largest lava lake on Jupiter's moon Io.
  • Taking advantage of a rare orbital alignment between two of Jupiter's moons, Io and Europa, researchers have obtained an exceptionally detailed map of the largest lava lake on Io.

Technology to Turn Any Surface Into Touchpads

  • Researchers have now developed a technology to turn surfaces of a wide variety of shapes and sizes into touchpads using tools as simple as a can of spray paint.
  • The technology, called Electrick, can turn walls, furniture, steering wheels and even toys into touch sensors.
  • The trick is to apply electrically conductive coatings or materials to objects or surfaces, or to craft objects using conductive materials.
