Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni Appoints Hun Manet- as the New Prime Minister

Cambodia's King Norodom Sihamoni appointed former Prime Minister Hun Sen's son - Hun Manet- as the new Prime Minister of the country. A royal decree was issued by the King stating that he appointed Hun Manet as the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia for the 7th mandate of the parliament.
While the King appointed Hun Manet as the PM, the leader and his cabinet must win the confidence vote to assume office.
During the Cambodian Elections 2023, Hun Sen's party - the Cambodian People's Party, won with a landslide victory.

Hiroshima Day, Observed on August 6.

Hiroshima Day is observed on August 6 to commemorate the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan, in 1945, at the end of World War II.
The horrific incident took place on August 6, 1945, when the United States dropped an atomic bomb named "Little Boy", on the town of Hiroshima in Japan. 2023 marks the 78th anniversary of the world's first atomic bombing.
The day, which is observed at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, Japan, highlights the effects of nuclear wars, pays respect to those who got killed, discourages nuclear proliferation and promotes world peace.

Pak court ordered Ex-PM Imran be put in Adiala Jail not Attock Prison.

Imran Khan awoke on Sunday as an inmate in the high-security Attock prison in Attock city but should have been in Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, according to the order issued by an Islamabad trial court that found the former Pakistan Prime Minister guilty in a corruption case.
Mr. Khan, 70, was arrested from his home in Lahore on Saturday shortly after being convicted and sentenced to three-year imprisonment in the Toshakhana corruption case.
According to the court order, additional district and sessions judge Humayun Dilawar ordered the Islamabad police chief to arrest the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, instead it was the Punjab police that arrested Mr. Khan.
The court also ordered the Adiala jail superintendent to receive Khan, who was taken to Attock jail amid tight security.
The court order issued for the inspector general of police (IGP) Islamabad said: "This is to authorise and require you the I.G. Islamabad Police to arrest the convict Imran Khan Niazi son of Ikramullah Khan and to send him to Central Prison Adyala, Rawalpindi, for serving out the stated sentences," the Dawn newspaper reported.
"This is to authorise and require you the said superintendent to receive the said convict Imran Khan Niazi into your custody in the said jail, together with this warrant for serving out the stated sentences," said another court order issued for the Adiala jail superintendent.
However, Mr. Khan was neither arrested by the capital police nor detained at Adiala jail, the report said.

Pakistan Approves New Security Pact with US

Pakistan's Cabinet approved the signing of a new security pact with the US, a move that indicates a fresh start in defence cooperation after years of distrust between the two nations and may open avenues for Islamabad to get military hardware from Washington.
Through a circulation summary, the Cabinet gave its seal of approval to sign the Communication Interoperability and Security Memorandum of Agreement, known as the CIS-MOA, between Pakistan and the US.

Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif to Dissolve Parliament

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced the dissolution of the National Assembly on August 9. The decision came after he met with parliamentary leaders where the country's political situation was thoroughly discussed.
On August 9, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will send formal advice to the President for the dissolution of the National Assembly. According to constitutional provisions, the President must sign the advice within 48 hours to effectuate the dissolution. If, for any reason, the President does not sign the advice, the Assembly will be automatically dissolved.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Shehbaz assured that after three days of consultation with the opposition, he will submit the name of the caretaker Prime Minister to the President.
However, if no agreement is reached, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will step in and nominate a candidate for the caretaker Prime Minister position from the proposed names.

PM Modi Accepts Invite to Join BRICS Summit in Johannesburg (5)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepted South African President Cyril Ramaphosa's invitation for BRICS Summit, scheduled to take place on August 22-24 in Johannesburg.
During the telephonic conversation, the South African President extended a cordial invitation to PM Modi for the BRICS Summit and briefed him on the preparations for the same.

The alliance was comprised of Brazil, Russia, India, and China - a collective representation of burgeoning emerging markets brimming with current and future economic prowess. In a momentous development in 2010, South Africa joined the ranks, bestowing the acronym BRICS upon this formidable bloc of nations.

The Parliament of World's Religions invited prominent Jain leader Acharya Lokesh Muni as a speaker at its opening ceremony on August 14.
The five-day event in Chicago beginning August 14 is being attended by about 10,000 delegates from 80 countries. It is said to be the largest gathering of religious leaders from across the world.
Several other Indian religious leaders have been invited to the five-day event in Chicago. Prominent among them is Nivedita Raghunath Bhide, all India vice-president of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari. Author of 15 books, Bhide was awarded Padmashri in 2017 for social service.

Indian-American Shohini Sinha Named Special Agent in Charge of FBI in Salt Lake City

Indian-American Shohini Sinha was appointed as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) special agent in charge of the Salt Lake City Field Office.
Sinha was appointed to the post by FBI Director Christopher Wray.
Sinha served as executive special assistant to the Director at FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC. She joined the FBI as a special agent in 2001. She was first assigned to the Milwaukee Field Office, where she worked in counterterrorism investigations.
She also served in temporary assignments at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, the FBI Legal Attaché Office in London, and the Baghdad Operations Center.
Sinha was in 2009 promoted to supervisory special agent and transferred to the Counterterrorism Division in Washington, DC.
