Uttar Pradesh Government Forms State's First All-woman PAC Battalions
The Uttar Pradesh government announced the formation of the state's first three all-woman battalions of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC).
The move came with the aim to entrust the responsibility of security of the state with women.
Also, women's help desks were set up at all 1,584 police stations of the state by appointing women beat constables.
Three Provincial Sashastra Seema Bal PAC woman battalions are being established in the name of brave and courageous women in the state.
These three battalions are being named after Rani Avantibai Lodhi, Uday Devi and Jhalkari Bai, who sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle of India. They are being established at Badaun, Lucknow and Gorakhpur. The process of posting 1262 posts in one women's battalion of PAC is going on. This includes the posts of one senanayak, three deputy Senanayak, with nine assistant senanayak, one shivirpal, 24 inspectors, 108 head constables, 842 scavengers, and cooks.

Modi Becomes First Prime Minister to Attend Kullu Dussehra
In the nearly 400 years of the history of the world-famous weeklong Kullu Dussehra festivities, Narendra Modi became the first Prime Minister to pay obeisance to Kullu Valley's chief deity Lord Raghunath in this Himachal Pradesh hill town amidst the presence of nearly 300 deities.
Lord Raghunath's chariot was wheeled out from the historical temple in Sultanpur on the first day of Dussehra or Vijay Dashami, the day when the festivities end in the rest of the country.
Accompanied by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Prime Minister Modi witnessed the 'rath yatra' with religious fervour.
Telangana's KCR Moves to National Stage with Bharat Rashtra Samithi
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao made his long-standing dream of stepping into national politics come true by launching 'Bharat Rashtra Samithi', a new version of his Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party.
Rao's national party is the first from two Telugu states - Andhra Pradesh and Telangana - to be converted into a national party.
Rao's move to accelerate his political fight against the BJP coincides with the announcement of schedule for Munugode by-poll in Telangana by the Election Commission. The polling is scheduled to be held on November 3 and votes would be counted on November 6.
The TRS, in its foundation day event in April this year, had resolved that the party should play a key role in national politics in the interest of the country as the BJP is "exploiting communal sentiments," for its political convenience.

Gujjars, Bakerwals, Pahadis in Jammu & Kashmir to Get Quota Benefits
Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the Gujjar, Bakerwal and Pahari communities in Jammu and Kashmir would get reservation benefits in accordance with the recommendations of the Justice Sharma Commission which examined the issue of quota.
Shah also said that there will be no decline in ST quota of Gujjars and Bakerwals and Paharis and everyone will get their share.
The abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 paved the way for providing reservation benefits to the deprived sections of the society in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Justice Sharma Commission recommended that Paharis, Bakerwal and Gujjars should be included for ST quota benefits.
Himachal Pradesh Government Launches App to Aid Police
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched the 'Satya Nishtha' app, the first-of-its-kind application in the state to help police investigation and control criminal activities.
The app would help police prepare a database of criminals and also study the various offences that take place under different police stations in the district.
With this app, a database of information on migrant labourers, foreigners and suspicious persons can be prepared to help speed up investigation in criminal cases. The data available in the app can be accessed from anywhere and at anytime.
Congress Loses Chairmanship of Parliamentary Committee on IT, Home
Opposition parties were not been given the chairmanship of any of the four key parliamentary panels, including the committee on Home Affairs and Information Technology, which were with the Congress, in the latest rejig.
With this, the chair of six major parliamentary committees, Home, IT, Defence, External Affairs, Finance and Health, all are with the BJP and its allies.
The Trinamool Congress, which had the chair of the Parliamentary Panel on Food and Consumer Affairs, was not given the chairmanship of any parliamentary committee after the reshuffle.

President Murmu Launches Start-up Platform for Women Entrepreneurs
President Droupadi Murmu launched a start-up platform 'Her Start' for women entrepreneurs created by Gujarat University.
The President also inaugurated or laid foundation stones of various projects related to education and tribal development at a function at Gujarat University.
`Her Start' is an initiative of the varsity for women entrepreneurs.
Punjab: Bhagwant Mann Govt. Wins Confidence Motion
The Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government in Punjab won the vote of confidence, an expected outcome, with thumping majority as 91 of the ruling party legislators voted in support of the motion.
The confidence motion, which was moved by Chief Minister Mann after the ruling party accused the BJP of trying to topple the state government, saw main opposition Congress abstaining during the voting. The BJP had already announced to boycott the assembly session as it had accused the AAP government of violating the Constitution by bringing the confidence motion in the assembly.
ECI Names Pankaj Tripathi as its National Icon
The Election Commission of India announced that noted film personality Pankaj Tripathi, who shot to fame through the OTT show Mirzapur, was made its national icon.
Pankaj was chosen for the honour for 'his association with ECI in creating awareness amongst voters'. The announcement was made in Delhi by the Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar in the presence of the actor.

No Extension for Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik
The tenure of Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik, who was hogging the limelight for his controversial remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, was not extended. It came to an end on October 3.
President Droupadi Murmu, in an order, gave the additional charge of the Meghalaya Raj Bhawan to Arunachal Pradesh Governor B.D. Mishra.
Malik served as the Governor of Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, and Goa before being moved to Meghalaya in August 2020.
Sunil Barthwal Takes Charge as Commerce Secretary
Senior IAS officer Sunil Barthwal assumed charge as the commerce secretary. Barthwal, a 1989-batch officer of the Bihar cadre, previously served as the labour and employment secretary.
Sunil Barthwal replaced Subrahmanyam, a 1987-batch IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, who was appointed as chairman and managing director, India Trade Promotion Organisation on a contract basis for a period of two years following his superannuation.
Barthwal has held various administrative positions in areas of finance, social security, infrastructure, mines, steel, energy and transport at both Centre and state level.
Ajay Bhadoo Appointed Dy Election Commissioner, Akash Tripathi MyGov's CEO
Senior bureaucrat Ajay Bhadoo was appointed as the Deputy Election Commissioner as part of a senior level bureaucratic reshuffle.
Bhadoo, a 1999 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Gujarat cadre, was appointed to the post up to July 24, 2024.
Akash Tripathi, a 1998 batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), MyGov, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology.
Basant Garg, a 2005 batch IAS officer of Punjab cadre, was named Additional CEO, National Health Authority under the Department of Health & Family Welfare.

Centre Extends AFSPA in Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh for 6 Months
The Central extended for another six months the application of the "disturbed area" under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act — known as AFSPA — in 12 districts of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, and certain parts of five other districts of the two north-eastern states to facilitate the armed forces to continue the anti-insurgency operations.
The notification issued by Home Ministry said that the AFSPA would be extended for six months beginning October 1 in nine districts — Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Mon, Kiphire, Noklak, Phek, Peren and Zunheboto — and 16 police stations areas in four other districts — Kohima, Mokokchung, Longleng and Wokha — of Nagaland.
In a separate notification, the Home Ministry said the application of the "disturbed area" under the AFSPA would continue for six more months from Saturday in Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts and the areas falling within the jurisdiction of Namsai and Mahadevpur police stations in Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh, adjoining Assam.
Lalit Bhasin eleis New IACC National President
Noted lawyer Lalit Bhasin was appointed as the national president of Indian American Chambers of Commerce (IACC).
Bhasin, before being elected to the post, was the executive vice president of IACC.
Bhasin is the 54th national president of IACC, which was set up in October 1968 and is headquartered in Mumbai, having 14 offices all over India, with a large membership from large, medium and small business entities.
Bhasin's 60 years of eminent association with legal practice took him to several leadership positions in the profession. He is closely associated with India's apex business organizations like CII, PHD CCI and served as chairman of its legal committees.
