India-born media executive Dr. Samir Shah was confirmed as the new BBC chairman after his selection cleared the stages of scrutiny and approved by King Charles III.
Shah, who has worked in UK broadcasting for over 40 years, was picked as the government's preferred candidate in December 2023 and was quizzed by cross-party MPs of the House of Commons Media Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee for his pre-appointment scrutiny.
Shah was confirmed in the 160,000 pounds per year and four-year term role to take charge as the public broadcaster's first Indian-origin Chair until March 2028.
WHO Launches Digital Health Platform Agreed During India's G20 Presidency
Achieving one of the three priority areas agreed upon during India's G20 presidency in 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) launched the Global Initiative on Digital Health (GIDH) virtually, a platform for sharing knowledge and digital products among countries.
At the launch of GIDH, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and India's representative to the UN Arindam Bagchi addressed the gathering.
The initiative will be a network of networks with four main components — country needs tracker, country resource portal (a map of resources available in a country), transformation toolbox that will share quality-assured digital tools, and knowledge exchange.
As per Mandaviya, the platform will help in democratising digital health technologies, especially for countries of the Global South.

PML-N and PPP to Form Coalition Government
Two major Pakistan political parties reached a formal agreement to form a coalition government, ending days of intense negotiations after an inconclusive national election did not return a clear majority.
The agreement between Bhutto Zardari's Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of three-time Premier Nawaz Sharif ended days of uncertainty and negotiations after the elections produced a hung national assembly.
Bhutto Zardari confirmed that former premier Shehbaz Sharif would be the coalition's candidate for Prime Minister.
He added that his father Asif Ali Zardari will be the alliance's candidate for the country's president.
PML-N is the largest party with 79 seats and PPP is second with 54. They, along with four other smaller parties, have a comfortable majority in the legislature of 264 seats.

'Operation Dunki': Nepal Police Bust Trafficking Racket in Kathmandu
Eleven Indian nationals, mostly students, held hostage for over two weeks with a promise to facilitate travel to the USA, were rescued as Nepal police busted a human trafficking racket and arrested eight Indian mafia members along with their Nepali accomplice here.
Nepal police named it 'Operation Dunki' as the case turned out to be similar to the situation shown in popular Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan's 2023 movie Dunki. The rescued persons and mafia members came mostly from the Indian states of Punjab and Haryana.
