FIDE World Cup 2025

  • The 11th iteration of the official FIDE Chess World Cup is set to take place in India's coastal city of Goa from October 30 to November 7, 2025. A record number of 24 Indians will participate in the biennial event, which offers Candidates' spots.
  • The tournament top seed is Indian chess sensation and reigning World Champion, D. Gukesh.
  • The FIDE World Cup 2025 will feature 206 players competing in a head-to-head, two-game knockout format over eight rounds. Each round spans three days: two classical games (between two players) on the first two days, followed by tie-breaks on the third day, if necessary.

India's Tanvi Sharma settles for silver at Badminton World Junior Championships

  • Indian shuttler Tanvi Sharma's quest for gold at the BWF World Junior Championships ended as she lost to Thailand's Anyapat Phichitpreechasak in the women's singles final.
  • Tanvi became the third Indian female shuttler to reach the tournament final, following former world No.1 Saina Nehwal and Aparna Popat. She lost 7-15 12-15 to the second-seeded Thai player.
  • Tanvi secured India's first silver medal at the World Junior Championships in 17 years. Previously, only Saina had won gold in 2008 and silver in 2006, while Aparna claimed silver in 1996.

Morocco Stuns Argentina to Win Historic U-20 World Cup

  • Morocco made history by defeating Argentina 2-0 in the Under-20 FIFA World Cup final in Chile, capturing the nation's first World Cup title at any level. The North African nation capped off a phenomenal tournament run with a commanding victory over one of football's traditional powerhouses. This win not only marks Morocco's emergence as a global football force but also positions them as a key player in youth development on the world stage, becoming the first African team since Ghana in 2009 to win the U-20 World Cup.
  • The hero of the night was Yassir Zabiri, a rising talent currently playing for FC Famalicão in Portugal's Primeira Liga. Zabiri scored both goals in the first half, delivering a performance that stunned a heavily favoured Argentine side.

  • The Formula 1 United States Grand Prix 2025 delivered high drama and shifting championship dynamics as Max Verstappen stormed to his third win in four races, tightening the gap in a now fierce three-way title battle. India's Kiran Navgire Scores Fastest Century in women's T20 Cricket

  • Opener Kiran Navgire broke the record for the fastest century in women's Twenty20 cricket when she completed her hundred in just 34 balls while helping Maharashtra to a nine-wicket win over Punjab in India's Women's T20 Trophy.
  • Navgire, who has played six T20 matches for India, broke Sophie Devine's previous record of a 36-ball century set four years ago.

Tanvi Sharma Becomes First Indian Girl since 2008 to Medal at BWF World Junior Championships

  • Sixteen-year-old Tanvi Sharma became the first Indian girl to win a singles medal at the BWF World Junior Championships since 2008 after beating Japan's Saki Matsumoto in the quarter-finals.
  • Tanvi, now assured of a bronze, also confirmed India's first medal of the ongoing 2025 edition being held in Guwahati.
  • The Indian, seeded first, beat the Japanese 13-15, 15-9, 15-10 in a three-game thriller.

UAE Become 20th & Last Team to Qualify for 2026 T20 World Cup

  • The United Arab Emirates (UAE) became the 20th and final team to qualify for the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup set to take place in India and Sri Lanka from February 6 to March 8, 2026. UAE confirmed its qualification after defeating Japan in their final Super Six match of the T20 World Cup Asia-EAP Qualifier 2025 at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground (Ministry Turf 1) in Al Amerat.
