Kagiso Rabada becomes the fastest player to take 100 wickets in IPL

  •  During a match between Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans at IS Bindra Stadium, Kagiso Rabada achieved a significant milestone by taking his 100th wicket in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He became the fastest bowler to reach this milestone in terms of matches played, completing it in his 64th IPL match. Rabada, who is a right-arm pacer, surpassed Lasith Malinga, who reached the 100-wicket mark in his 70th match. The wicket that led to Rabada's achievement was that of Wriddhiman Saha.

Rublev gets long-awaited reward with Monte Carlo title

  •  Andrey Rublev made the most of Holger Rune's nerves to win a see-saw Monte Carlo final 5-7 6-2 7-5 on Sunday, as the Russian's talent was finally rewarded with a Masters title.
  • The fifth seed stayed composed when it mattered to eventually run down his 19-year-old opponent and claim the most prestigious title of his career.
  • Rublev, 25, was 4-1 down in the decider but ground his way back into the contest to prevail on his second match point with an ace at a sun-drenched Monte Carlo Country Club.
  • It was Rublev's third attempt in a Masters final after failing at the final hurdle here in Monte Carlo and in Cincinnati in 2021.

Indian Women's League players to get minimum salary of Rs 3.2 lakh per year: AIFF

  •   The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has decided to revamp and restructure women's football in the country, in line with the Strategic Roadmap Vision 2047 as decided on January 7, 2023. In a press conference in the national capital on Friday, AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey and Secretary General Shaji Prabhakaran announced a few plans apart from the restructuring of women's football that was discussed during the Executive committee meeting.
  • To give women's football a refreshed look and create improved economic opportunities, the AIFF's has taken up the task of revamping the Indian Women's League (IWL). Starting next season, it will be mandatory for the top eight participating teams in the IWL, to have a minimum 10 Indian players on a fully professional annual contract worth a minimum of Rs 3.2 lakhs.

Shakib and Ishimwe Clinch ICC Player of the Month Awards for March 2023

  • The ICC revealed the winners of the ICC Player of the Month awards for March 2023, with Shakib Al Hasan from Bangladesh being named as the ICC Men's Player of the Month, while Henriette Ishimwe from Rwanda was selected as the ICC Women's Player of the Month. This is Shakib's second time winning the Player of the Month award, with his first win being in July 2021.
  • He beat out tough competition from Asif Khan of UAE and Kane Williamson of New Zealand.
  • Ishimwe outperformed other strong contenders, including Sibona Jimmy and Ravini Oa from PNG, to clinch the award.

Indian Team to Take Part in IIHF Ice Hockey Women's Asia and Oceania Championship

  • The Indian women's team will participate in the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's Asia and Oceania Championship in Thailand from April 30 to May 7.
  • Tsewang Chuskit will captain the India squad with Dr. Noor Jahan, a conservationist by training, in charge of the goal.
  • The support from the world's oldest motorcycle company 'Royal Enfield' came after it announced a partnership with the Indian women's Ice Hockey team in order to strengthen their Olympic ambitions. It is an extension of the relationship of Royal Enfield with UT Ladakh in order to develop winter sports in the region.

Aman Sehrawat Clinches India's First Gold Medal in Asian Wrestling Championships 2023

  • Aman Sehrawat clinched India's first gold medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships after beating Kyrgyzstan's Almaz Smanbekov in the 57 kg category. Sehrawat beat Smanbekov 9-4 in the summit bout on the penultimate day of the championships. Sehrawat, who trains at Delhi's famed Chhatrasal Stadium, had earlier beaten Japan's Rikuto Arai 7-1 in the quarter-finals before defeating China's Wanhao Zou 7-4 in the semi-finals.
  • It was the second podium finish of the 2023 season for Sehrawat, who had won a bronze at the Zagreb Open in February. He had won the U-23 World Championships 2022.

Chennai to Host Asian Hockey Men's Championship

  • After a gap of 15 years, Chennai is set to host the Asian Hockey Men's Championship this year (2023). The State government would extend financial assistance for hosting the international hockey event.
  • The championship would be held at the SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in the last week of August 2023. The men's Asia Cup hockey championship in 2007 was the last international hockey event that happened in Chennai.

Antim Stopped at Final Hurdle by Fujinami

  • Young Indian wrestler Antim Panghal won silver in the 53 kg category at the 2023 Asian Wrestling Championships after losing to Japan's Akari Fujinami, while four other Indian wrestlers clinched bronze medals.
  • Anshu Malik (57 kg), Sonam Malik (62 kg), Manisha (65 kg) and Reetika (72 kg) added to India's medal count by winning their bronze medal bouts.
