Tamil Nadu: Stalin Inaugurates Jallikattu Stadium

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin inaugurated a jallikattu stadium in Madurai where the sport is most famous.
Touted to be the first of its kind, the three-tiered stadium is spread across 65 acres. Built at a cost of Rs. 63 crore, it has a seating capacity of 5,000. The stadium also has an air-conditioned space that can seat 50 people. A veterinary dispensary and an emergency centre are set up for treatment of injured bulls and tamers. Ten emergency vehicles would be stationed outside the stadium during the competitions.
This is the first such stadium for jallikattu in the world," Stalin said at the event.
Stalin named the stadium at Keelakarai village after his father and five time chief minister Late M. Karunanidhi as the 'Kalaignar Centenary Eru Thazuvuthal Arangam' and unveiled his statue.

Haryana Tops in 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team, at Khelo India Games

At the Khelo India Games, Haryana won the gold medal and Rajasthan silver in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. Tamil Nadu clinched bronze.
In the rhythmic gymnastics Hoop event, Maharashtra's Kimaya Karle and Sanyukta Kale took first and second places, while Muskan Rana from J&K took the third place. In the rhythmic gymnastics Ball event, Sanyukta Kale took the first place, Muskan Rana took the second place and Life Adlakha from Haryana took third place. In the Club event of the same sport, Muskan Rana ended up at the top of the podium. Parina Madanpotra from Maharashtra stood second and Life Adlakha from Haryana came third.

Sreeja Akula Secures First Global Table Tennis Title at WTT Feeder Corpus Christi 2024

Indian table tennis player Sreeja Akula achieved a significant milestone in her career by securing her maiden international title at the WTT Feeder Corpus Christi 2024 in Texas, USA.
Sreeja Akula faced a formidable opponent in the final, going up against world No. 46 Lily Zhang of the USA, a three-time Olympian. Sreeja defeated Lily Zhang 3-0 (11-6, 18-16, 11-5) to claim the top spot on the podium.

Rohan Bopanna Becomes Oldest Player to Reach Men's Doubles No 1

Rohan Bopanna clinched the No 1 men's doubles ranking with victory alongside Matt Ebden in the Australian Open quarter-finals, becoming the oldest player to do so at 43.
The Indian-Australian pair beat Argentine duo Máximo González and Andrés Molteni 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) in the quarter-finals at Melbourne Park.
The previous oldest men's doubles No 1, Mike Bryan, was 41 years and 76 days when his stint ended in 2019, according to the International Tennis Federation.

Madrid to Host Spanish F1 GP from 2026

Madrid is set to become the new host city for the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix starting from 2026. This marks a significant shift in the Spanish Grand Prix's location, as Barcelona has been the event's home since 1991. The transition will see Madrid hosting the Grand Prix for 10 years, from 2026 to 2035, introducing a brand-new circuit to the world of Formula 1.
The introduction of the Madrid Grand Prix represents a new chapter in Spain's Formula 1 racing history. With a circuit designed to combine sport and spectacle, Madrid would offer a unique and memorable experience for both fans and participants in the competition.

India Open 2024: China's Shi Yu Qi Wins Men's Singles Title

It was the second time lucky for China's Shi Yu Qi as he got the better of Hong Kong's Lee Cheuk Yiu in straits sets 23-21 and 21-17 and won the men's singles title at India Open 2024 at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall in New Delhi.
The India Open is an annual badminton event which has been held in India since 2008 and is a BWF World Tour Super 750 international badminton tournament. Its first three editions were designated as Grand Prix Gold events. In 2011, it was upgraded to the BWF Superseries tournament. Since then until 2019, it was held annually at the Siri Fort Sports Complex, New Delhi.

Darja Seministaja Wins ITF Women's Open 2024

Top seed Darja Semenistaja lived up to her top billing as she annexed the KPB Trust ITF Women's Open crown steamrolling an error-prone sixth seed Carole Monnet in the final played at the KSLTA Stadium in Bengaluru.
This was Darja's 15th ITF title overall.

India Open: Tai Tzu-ying Wins Women's Singles Title

Chinese Taipei badminton legend Tai Tzu-ying overcame her Malaysian Open final loss by winning the India Open 2024 women's singles title against reigning Olympic champion Chen Yufei of China in straight sets 21-16, 21-12.
Ying, who is yet to win her elusive gold at the Olympic and Badminton World Federation (BWF) Championship, won her 32nd title when she lifted the India Open 2024.

Wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya Claims Bronze at France's Grand Prix

Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Ravi Kumar Dahiya, made a triumphant return to the wrestling arena by securing a bronze medal at the prestigious Grand Prix De France Henri Deglane wrestling tournament held in Nice, France.
Dahiya's absence from the international scene during the entire 2023 season was attributed to injuries he sustained during practice.

India Open: Thailand's Puavaranukroh-Taerattanachai Wins Mixed Doubles Title

Thailand's Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai clinched the India Open 2024 mixed doubles title by defeating world No 5 Chinese duo of Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin in straight sets 21-16, 21-16 in the final held at IG Stadium, New Delhi.
This was the third Super 750 title for the Thai pair, ranked world number seven in the BWF rankings.

Tata Group Secures IPL Title Sponsorship for Next 5 Years

The BCCI awarded the title sponsorship rights for the Indian Premier League to Tata Group for a period of five years. The Indian conglomerate, with diverse verticals, has renewed its association with the BCCI for a record-breaking value of INR 2500 crore, the highest-ever sponsorship amount in the history of the league.
The collaboration with Tata Group for the title sponsorship of IPL 2024-28 is a significant milestone in IPL's journey.

ITF Women's Open: Rutuja Crashes out in Semis, Darja in line for golden double

Rutuja Bhosale of India went down to sixth seed Carole Monnet of France in the semi-finals of the ITF Women's Open.
Rutuja who was the lone Indian remaining in the tournament, lost 2-6, 0-6 to the Frenchwoman in just 63 minutes.

Man Singh Wins Gold at Asian Marathon Championships

Man Singh became only the second Indian man to clinch the gold medal at the Asian Marathon Championships as he won the race with a personal best time.
He clocked 2 hours, 14 minutes and 19 seconds and won the competition.
