This remarkable feat marks the first time since 2012 that China has conquered both the men's and women's world team championships. Thomas Cup: China Denies Indonesia's Bid for Glory In the highly anticipated Thomas Cup final, China denied Indonesia – the most successful nation in the tournament's history – their 15th title, securing their 11th championship in the process. Uber Cup: Dominant Display by China's Women's Team Mirroring their male counterparts' success, the Chinese women's team also emerged victorious, capturing the Uber Cup title in a commanding performance.

Former Ranji Trophy Top-scorer Milind to Play T20 World Cup for USA

Former Delhi batter and 2018-19 Ranji Trophy top run-getter Milind Kumar found a place in the United States of America squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, starting June 1.
The USA, a co-host of the event alongside the West Indies, announced its 15-member squad to be led by Gujarat-born Monank Patel.
Right-handed batter Milind, who scored 1331 runs in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season, had before that played seven seasons for Delhi and then migrated to the USA in search of better opportunities.

Japan Triumphs at the AFC U-23 Asian Cup, Secures Olympic Berth

The Japanese men's under-23 football team etched their name in history by clinching the AFC U-23 Asian Cup for the second time, defeating Uzbekistan in a nail-biting final at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar. The solitary goal scored by substitute Yamada in injury time secured Japan's victory and qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The 6th edition of the AFC U-23 Asian Cup was held in Qatar from April 15 to May 3, 2024, with 16 teams from across Asia vying for the coveted title. The tournament served as a crucial qualification event for the upcoming Paris Olympics, with the top three teams earning automatic spots.
Japan emerged as the champions, clinching the gold medal, while Uzbekistan secured the silver medal. The bronze medal went to Iraq, who defeated Indonesia in the semi-finals.
Uzbekistan's captain, Jaloliddinov, received the Fair Play Award, while their goalkeeper, Nematov, was named the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament. Iraqi striker Ali Jasim claimed the Top Goalscorer honor with four goals, and Japanese team captain Fujita was crowned the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.

ISL 2023-24 Final: Mumbai City FC Beats Mohun Bagan SG 3-1 and Wins the ISL Cup

Mumbai City FC stunned home-favourite Mohun Bagan Super Giant 3-1 and won its second Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 final at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata.
Jason Cummings scored for Mohun Bagan while Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Bipin Singh and Jakub Votjus secured the Championship for the Islanders, putting over 62,000 fans into deathly silence.

Powell to Lead strong West Indies Team, Rookie Shamar Called in for T20 World Cup

Rajasthan Royals power-hitter Rovman Powell will lead a strong West Indies squad, filled with some of the world's best franchise freelancers, in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the Americas.
One of the prominent names included is rookie pace sensation Shamar Joseph, who is part of Lucknow Super Giants in this edition of IPL 2024.
The team bears a formidable look with some of the biggest power-hitters in world cricket like Nicholas Pooran of Lucknow Super Giants, Andre Russell of Kolkata Knight Riders, Shimron Hetmyer of Rajasthan Royals apart from skipper Powell himself being part of the 15.
Not to forget Romario Shepherd of Mumbai Indians, Sherfane Rutherford (KKR) and Shai Hope (Delhi Capitals), who are also plying their trade in the cash-rich IPL
The two-time T20 World Cup champions are clubbed alongside Afghanistan, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Uganda. They will start their campaign against Papua New Guinea in Guyana on June 2.

National Women's Hockey League 2024 Commenced in Ranchi

The National Women's Hockey League 2024 kicked off in Jharkhand, featuring eight teams.
Jharkhand faced Mizoram at Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Astro Turf Stadium in Ranchi.
Hockey India officials, including Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh and Treasurer Sekar J Manoharan, welcomed Sports Authority of India's Director General Sandeep Pradhan to the inaugural day.
The opening match of the tournament turned out to be an entertaining affair in which the Hockey Association of Odisha beat Hockey Haryana 4-1. It was Haryana which drew first blood in the match when Shashi Khasa (3') capitalised on a fumble made by Odisha's goalkeeper Bhabhika Majhi during a penalty corner and netted the ball in from a point-blank range.

Indian Boxers Confirm 22 Medals with 7 in Finals

Brijesh Tamta and Aryan alongside five other boxers entered the finals as Indian pugilists assured themselves 22 medals in various categories at the ASBC Asian U-22 & Youth Boxing Championships 2024 in Astana, Kazakhstan. Of the 22 medals, 12 were assured by women at the prestigious tournament.

India to Host 2025 BWF World Junior Badminton Championships in Guwahati

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has announced that India will host the prestigious 2025 BWF World Junior Championships at the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati. This marks a significant milestone as India will be hosting this premier badminton event for the first time since 2008, when it was held in Pune.
After a gap of 17 years, the BWF World Junior Championships will once again take place in India. The exact dates for the 2025 edition will be announced later.
In another significant development, the 2026 edition of the BWF Thomas and Uber Cup Finals will be held in Horsens, Denmark. These prestigious team championships, featuring the world's best men's and women's badminton teams, will be hosted by Denmark for the second time, following the successful 2021 edition held in Aarhus.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF), established in 1934 and headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is the international governing body for the sport of badminton. Recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the BWF oversees and promotes the development of badminton globally.

Vaishali Ramesh Babu Achieves FIDE Grandmaster Title

Indian Chess Prodigy, Vaishali Ramesh Babu was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE, the International Chess Federation said that India is booming as far as the Chess landscape is concerned.
While sharing her journey, Vaishali, said that it was due to her father's decision to keep her away from television that she got enrolled into a Chess academy. She added that her parents have been her big support system.
Vaishali is the third Indian female Grandmaster, joining Koneru Humpy and Harika Dronavalli. Vaishali completed the requisite 2500 ELO points at the Llobregat Open tournament in Spain, last year. However, the title was officially given to her only recently following the FIDE Council meeting during the Candidates Tournament in Toronto last month.

Amul Becomes Lead Sponsor for USA and South Africa in T20 World Cup 2024

The USA Cricket team will be making their T20 World Cup debut as co-hosts of the prestigious tournament, which commences on June 1. Part of the event, including the semifinals and finals, will take place in the Caribbean.
Amul's sponsorship of the USA team holds special significance as the dairy behemoth has a global footprint, and its products, including Amul milk, are now being sold in the United States.
Expressing his excitement, Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Amul, stated, "The goodness of Amul Milk will empower the USA Cricket team to win hearts and laurels from across the world. We wish our best to the team for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024."

West Indies Cricketer Devon Thomas Banned for 5 Years for Match Fixing

West Indies batter Devon Thomas was banned for five years by the International Cricket Council for match fixing.
The Dubai-based ICC said that Thomas admitted to breaching seven counts of the anti-corruption codes of Sri Lanka Cricket, the Emirates Cricket Board, and the Caribbean Premier League.
The breaches relate to attempting to fix the outcome of games and obstructing investigations by concealing, tampering with or destroying evidence.
Thomas' ban was backdated to May 23 last year (2023), the date when he was provisionally suspended. The final 18 months of the ban are suspended.

Kenyan Dominance at TCS World 10K Bengaluru

The 16th edition of the Tata Consultancy Services World 10K Bengaluru witnessed Kenyan runners Peter Mwaniki (28:15) and Lilian Kasait (30:56) emerging victorious in the international elite men's and women's categories, respectively.
Mwaniki pulled away from his compatriot Hillary Chepkwony (28:33) at the 7.5 km mark, displaying a burst of speed that left his fellow Kenyan trailing.
Mirroring Mwaniki's strategy, Kasait distanced herself from her closest rival, Emmaculate Achol (31:17), by surging ahead at the 7.1 km mark.
Despite their impressive performances, Mwaniki and Kasait were unable to break the event records (men: 27:38, women: 30:35) on the new route, which received praise from most runners.
In the Indian elite categories, Kiran Matre (29:32) etched his name in the record books by breaking the event record for Indian men's elite athletes, surpassing the previous milestone of 29:49 set by Suresh Kumar in 2015.
