Nitish Flags Off 'Hockey Gaurav Yatra' to Promote First Mega Sports Event in Bihar

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar flagged off ''Trophy Gaurav Yatra' (trophy tour) of the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy (Women)-2024 to promote the first mega sports event being held in the state from November 11 to 20, 2024.
Teams from India, China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and Thailand will participate in the eighth edition of Women Asian Champions Trophy 2024 at the newly built Rajgir sports complex in the state. India was the winner of the previous championship.
The 'Trophy Gaurav Yatra' is aimed at spreading awareness about hockey among girls. The yatra, comprising students, former players and sports officials, will travel across all 38 districts in Bihar.
The Women Asian Champions Trophy is being jointly organised by the sports department of Bihar government, Bihar State Sports Authority, Hockey India and Asian Hockey Federation.

ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024: India Eliminated

The India women cricket team was eliminated from ICC Women's T20 World Cup after New Zealand beat Pakistan by 54 runs in Sharjah. New Zealand showcased brilliant effort in all departments and made it to the semi-final for the first time since 2016. Pakistan were brave in their approach which bite them back after sending Aliya Riyaz to open with Muneeba Ali to chase. From 19/1, Pakistan got to 28/5 and that is when things started to fall apart for them.

Kenya's Ruth Chepngetich Shatters Women's World Record and Wins Chicago Marathon

Ruth Chepngetich of Kenya obliterated the women's world record by almost two minutes as she won the Chicago Marathon in 2:09:56, taking inspiration from the late Kelvin Kiptum.
Chepngetich, who became the first three-time women's winner of the Chicago race, broke the previous world record of 2:11:53 set by Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa in Berlin.
Chepngetich, who also won in Chicago in 2021 and 2022, dedicated her latest victory to Kiptum, who set the men's world record at last year's (2023) race just four months before he died in a car accident at the age of 24.

Asian Table Tennis Championships: Ayhika-Sutirtha Secure India's 1st-Ever Women's Doubles Medal

India's top-ranked women's doubles pair of Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee made history, securing a historic bronze medal, the country's first-ever medal in the category, at the Asian Table Tennis Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan. Ayhika and Sutirtha became the first-ever all-India women's doubles pair from India to win a medal at the competition. Back in 1952, Gool Nasikwala secured a gold medal in the women's doubles competition alongside Japan's Yoshiko Tanaka in the inaugural edition of the tournament.
The Mukherjees, the world number 15th pair in women's doubles rankings, were defeated by the Japan's world number 33 duo of Miwa Harimoto and Miyuu Kihara with a 3-0 (4-11, 9-11, 9-11). The losing semi-finalists are awarded the bronze medals in this competition.

Jannik Sinner Wins Season's 7th Title

Jannik Sinner secured his seventh title of a remarkable year with victory over Novak Djokovic in the final of the Shanghai Masters.
The Italian bettered the 24-time Grand Slam champion 7-6(4) 6-3 in an hour and 37 minutes and never faced a break point.
Sinner became the first man to win more than six titles in a season since Andy Murray won nine in 2016.

Global Chess League: Triveni Continental Kings Crowned Champions

In two hard-fought, nerve-wracking games, Triveni Continental Kings stunned PBG Alaskan Knights with a 13-7 victory as Black in the first match and followed it up with a 9-7 win as White in the second and successfully retained the championship as well as the top prize of 500,000 US dollars.
Former Women's World Champion Alexandra Kosteniuk emerged as the hero of the day. Her victory over Tan Zhongyi in the decisive game of the second match denied PBG a chance at tiebreaks. For her remarkable performance, she was named Player of the Match.

Mumbai Indians Reappoint Mahela Jayawardene as Head Coach

Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians reappointed former Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardene as the Head Coach. He was has previously in the role from 2017-2022, a period in which MI won three IPL trophies.
In 2022 Jayawardene was moved from Head Coach's position to Global Head of Cricket for the MI franchise overseeing the expansion in franchise leagues across various countries.

The 38th National Games to be Held in Uttarakhand

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chose Uttarakhand as the host for the 38th Summer National Games, scheduled to take place from January 28 to February 14, 2025. This announcement marks a significant achievement for the state, as it will be hosting the prestigious event for the first time, followed by the upcoming Winter Games, which will be held outside Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh for the first time.
The 37th National Games, held in Goa from September 25 to November 9, 2023, paved the way for Uttarakhand's momentous turn to showcase its capabilities on the national sporting stage.

Asian Championships: Men Seal 3rd Medal in a Row, Women Settle for Bronze

The Indian men's table tennis team assured itself of its third consecutive medal at the 2024 Asian Table Tennis Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, overcoming a gritty Kazakhstan 3-1 in the quarter-finals. China won the gold in the men's team event.
India had finished with bronze medals in 2021 and 2023. India secured its seventh overall medal in the championships. The medal in the men's team event was secured after the women lost to Japan in the semi-finals to end with a historic bronze.

Rafael Nadal Announces Retirement from Tennis

One of the greatest tennis players of all time, Spanish professional tennis player Rafael Nadal announced his retirement from the sport. In an emotional video, the 22-time Grand Slam champion bid farewell to the game in which he built his stature as one of the most loved sportspersons of all time. The Davis Cup final 8 for Spain will be Nadal's last outing as a professional tennis player, to be held in November. Nadal remains one of the most decorated sportspersons of all time. Of the 22 Grand Slam titles he has won, the Spaniard clinched record 14 French Open titles.
Nadal also has a total of 92 ATP singles titles to his name, including 36 Masters titles as well as an Olympic gold medal. Nadal also holds the unique record of being one of three men tennis history to complete the Career Golden Slam in singles.
