James Webb Telescope Finds Record-breaking Distant Galaxy (02)

  • The James Webb Space Telescope discovered what appears to be a new record-holder for the most distant known galaxy, a remarkably bright star system that existed just 290 million years after the Big Bang, according to NASA.
  • The galaxy has been named JADES-GS-z14-0.
  • In addition to JADES-GS-z14-0, NASA also discovered another distant galaxy JADES-GS-z14-1, that is almost equally far away. This takes second spot in the ranking of the earliest galaxies ever observed by humans so far.

ChatGPT Meets Beckn in FIDE's AI Agent BecknGPT

  • The Foundation for Interoperability in Digital Economy (FIDE), which is the genesis co-author of the Beckn Protocol, that powers ecommerce networks like the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), unveiled a multi-network AI agent that can carry out commercial transactions on the user's behalf.
  • The AI agent, Beckn Generative Pre-trained Transformer or BecknGPT, is an open-source demonstration app over Open AI's ChatGPT.
  • The combination of Beckn protocol and AI can unlock a whole new world of possibilities.

IIT-Bombay, TCS to Build India's First Quantum Diamond Microchip Imager

  • The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-Bombay) entered a strategic partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to develop India's first Quantum Diamond Microchip Imager.
  • This advanced sensing tool holds the potential to unlock new levels of precision in the examination of semiconductor chips, reduce chip failures and improve the energy efficiency of electronic devices.

Reliance Jio arm, Tech Mahindra Bag Orders from Ghana for Building 4G, 5G Telecom Infrastructure

  • Ghana signed deals with a Reliance Jio subsidiary, Tech Mahindra, and other vendors to build 4G and 5G infrastructure as the African country aims to enhance its telecom capabilities.
  • Ghana's state-backed Next-Gen Infrastructure Company (NGIC) has partnered with Jio's arm Radisys, Tech Mahindra and Nokia to build the necessary infrastructure for delivering affordable 5G mobile broadband services.
  • Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Ghana's Minister for Communication and Digitalisation, emphasized India's strategic relevance due to similar demographics and recent telecom advancements. Choosing Indian vendors over Chinese suppliers, Ghana seeks to benefit from India's expertise in the field.
  • Ghana explores the deployment of both 4G and 5G networks, along with discussions with Elon Musk's Starlink for satellite connectivity. This expansion strategy aligns with Ghana's goal of deepening telecom penetration.

NASA Launches Satellite PREFIRE to Monitor and Mitigate Climate Change

  • NASA's pioneering PREFIRE (Polar Radiant Energy in the Far-InfraRed Experiment) mission launched its first CubeSat atop Rocket Lab's Electron rocket from Launch Complex 1 in Māhia, New Zealand. The PREFIRE mission, comprising shoebox-size CubeSats, aims to measure Earth's far-infrared radiation from its coldest and most remote regions, providing critical data to enhance predictions of global climate impacts on Earth's ice, seas, and weather patterns.
  • This innovative mission fills a crucial gap in understanding of Earth's energy dynamics. By studying how much energy Earth absorbs and emits from polar regions, PREFIRE will improve forecasts of sea ice loss, ice sheet melting, and sea level rise.
  • Central to PREFIRE's mission is Earth's energy budget — the balance between solar energy absorbed and terrestrial heat radiated into space, crucial for understanding global climate trends. The mission will focus on measuring far-infrared radiation emitted from Arctic and Antarctic regions, where these wavelengths play a significant role in climate dynamics.
