Japan Launches World's First Wooden Satellite, LignoSat, into Space
The world's first wooden satellite, LignoSat, was launched by Japanese scientists to understand the feasibility of timber in space.
Kyoto University and homebuilder Sumitomo Forestry jointly developed the wooden satellite, LignoSat, and sent it to the International Space Station (ISS) on a SpaceX mission. The satellite will be positioned approximately 400 kilometres above Earth.

ISRO Begins Groundbreaking Analogue Space Mission in Leh
ISRO announced the launch of its analogue space mission in Leh, Ladakh. This innovative mission aims to simulate life in an interplanetary habitat, addressing the challenges associated with establishing a base station beyond Earth. Through this initiative, ISRO seeks to gather insights and prepare for future space exploration endeavours.
The mission is developed through a partnership involving, Human Spaceflight Center, ISRO, AAKA Space Studio, University of Ladakh, IIT Delhi and Supported by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council.
The mission aims to replicate environmental conditions similar to those found on Mars and the Moon, considering Ladakh's unique climate and geography.
It focuses on the extreme temperatures of the region, which range from 3 to 35 °C in summers and −20 to −35 °C in winters, with heavy snowfall in winter months.

China's Only Woman Spaceflight Engineer among Crew To Tiangong Space Station
Three Chinese astronauts including the country's only woman spaceflight engineer blasted off on a "dream" mission to the Tiangong space station.
The new Tiangong team will carry out experiments with an eye to the space programme's ambitious goal of placing astronauts on the Moon by 2030 and eventually constructing a lunar base.
Among the crew is Wang Haoze who is China's only female spaceflight engineer, according to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA). She is the third Chinese woman to take part in a crewed mission.

Sarvam AI Launches New Language Model for Indian Languages
Bengaluru-based start-up Sarvam AI launched a new large language model, Sarvam 1. The AI model is open-source and has been trained on 11 languages including Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Oriya, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi and English.
The 2-billion-parameter model was trained on 4 trillion tokens on a custom tokeniser curated by Sarvam on Nvidia H100 Tensor Core GPUs. The company claims that the tokeniser is up to four times more efficient than other AI models which were trained on Indian languages.
