Deo Takes over as NRAI Chief

In an expected move, Kalikesh Singh Deo took over the reins of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI). The NRAI Governing Body unanimously approved the handover to Deo.
Deo was the senior vice-president before taking over from Raninder Singh, who went on a long leave after the Sports Ministry demanded an election for the top post.
The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) was founded in 1951 with a view to promote and popularize the shooting sports in India. The first speaker of Lok Sabha, G.V. Mavlankar was the founder and the first president of NRAI followed by. Govind Vallabh Pant, Lal Bahadur Shastri,. Y. B. Chauhan, G.S. Dhillon and. Joginder Singh. Raninder Singh has served as president since December 2010.
The NRAI is affiliated to the Indian Olympic Association and the International Shooting Sport Federation as well as the Asian Shooting Confederation and other international bodies.

Aleksander Ceferin Re-elected UEFA President Unopposed Until 2027

Aleksander Ceferin was re-elected unopposed as Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) president at the Ordinary Congress of European Soccer's governing body in Lisbon. The Slovenian has been re-elected to a four-year term that will last until 2027.
Ceferin was elected as UEFA's seventh president in 2016 to replace Michel Platini, who was barred from football administration in 2015 for ethics violations and was forced to resign from UEFA in 2016 after losing an appeal against his ban.

Peru Removed as Host of 2023 FIFA Under-17 World Cup

Peru was stripped of hosting the men's Under-17 World Cup because FIFA said that the country was not ready to stage the tournament later this year (2023).
FIFA did not name a replacement host for the 24-team tournament scheduled to be played from Nov. 10-Dec. 2.
The decision came one week after FIFA took the men's Under-20 World Cup from Indonesia because that country did not want to host Israel at its tournament.
FIFA cited Peru's inability "to fulfill its commitments to completing the infrastructure required to stage the tournament."
FIFA had picked both Peru and Indonesia in 2019 to host the respective 2021 editions of the tournaments. Both were delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

New Zealand's Kim Cotton Becomes First Female Umpire to Officiate Men's T20I Match

In April during the second T20I match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand in Dunedin, New Zealand, Kim Cotton became the first woman to serve as an on-field umpire in a men's international match between two full-member teams, making history. Cotton has previously worked as an on-field and TV umpire in 54 women's T20Is and 24 women's ODIs, as well as officiating at the women's T20 and ODI World Cups from 2018 to 2023.
Earlier, Claire Polosak became the first woman to officiate in a men's Test match as the fourth umpire during the third Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia in Sydney in January 2021. Moreover, in the Ranji Trophy tournament held earlier this year, female umpires Vrinda Rathi, N. Janani, and V. Gayathri made history by becoming the first women to perform on-field umpiring duties in the tournament's history.

United States Books its Place in the Final Qualifying Tournament for ODI World Cup 2023

The United States booked its place in the final qualifying tournament for this year's (2023) 50-overs World Cup in India following their 25-run victory over Jersey.
At a playoff event in Namibia, the U.S. side, led by Indian-born Monank Patel, posted 231 all out and then bowled out Jersey for 206 to confirm top spot and a place in the final qualifier in Zimbabwe in June-July.
United Arab Emirates finished runner-up to the U.S. to claim the second spot in the qualifier.
The U.S. and UAE join former world champions West Indies and Sri Lanka among the 10 teams in Zimbabwe vying for the last two places at the October-November World Cup.

Dhoni, Yuvraj Get MCC Life Membership

The prestigious Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), housed at the iconic Lord's cricket ground, gave 'Life Membership' to former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh.
The other Indians to get the membership were Suresh Raina, Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami. The MCC announced naming 19 new honorary life members who represented eight Test-playing countries. The others who were honoured with the membership included Eoin Morgan and Kevin Pietersen from England, Pakistan's Mohammad Hafeez and South Africa's Dale Steyn.

Two-time CWG Winner Sanjita Gets 4-year Ban

Two-time Commonwealth Games champion weightlifter Sanjita Chanu was handed a four-year ban by the National Anti-Doping Agency's (NADA) disciplinary panel for failing a dope test last year (2022).
She had tested positive for an anabolic steroid, Drostanolone Metabolite, that features in the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) prohibited list. Her dope sample was collected on September 30, 2022, during the National Games in Gujarat.
Sanjita's ban commences from November 12, 2022, the date of her provisional suspension.
