Poland's Presidential Poll Postponed Over Coronavirus

Poland governing coalition parties have agreed to postponed presidential election because of the deadly coronavirus outbreak.
The nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) party had wanted the vote to go ahead to get Andrzej Duda, 47, re-elected.
But junior coalition partner Agreement and the opposition said PiS was putting political gain ahead of public health.

India Ranked 3rd Among Countries in Scientific Publication in 2018

In accordance with the Research and Development (R&D) Statistics At a Glance 2019-20 and S&T Indicators Tables 2019-20 based on the national Science & Technology (S&T) survey 2018 brought out by the National Science and Technology Management Information Sysytem (NSTMIS), Department of Science and Technology (DST).
India's gross expenditure in R&D has tripled between 2008 & 2018 and also there is rise in scientific publications.

US Women's Equal Pay Claim Dismissed by Court

The United States women's football team's bid for equal pay has been dismissed by a court, with the judge rejecting the players' claims they were underpaid compared to the men.
The lawsuit was filed by 28 women's national team players last year (2019) against the US Soccer Federation (USSF).
They had been seeking $66m (£52.8m) in damages under the Equal Pay Act.

Trudeau Announces Ban on 1,500 Kinds of Assault Weapons

Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has introduced a long-promised ban on assault-style weapons following the country's worst gun massacre in April, 2020.
New rules would make it illegal to sell, transport, import or use 1,500 varieties of assault weapons.
The ban is effective immediately but there will be a two-year amnesty period for law-abiding gun owners to comply.
Mr Trudeau also said he would introduce legislation, which has yet to pass, to offer a buy-back programme.

Sudan Criminalises Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

Sudan has criminalised carrying out female genital mutilation (FGM), making it punishable by three years in jail.
Some 87% of Sudanese women aged between 14 and 49 have undergone some form of FGM, according to the UN.
In Sudan it is common for women to get the inner and outer labia, and usually the clitoris, removed.
FGM can result in urinary tract infections, uterine infections, kidney infections, cysts, reproductive issues and pain during sex.

Australia Marks Cook anniversary Under Lockdown

Australia has marked the 250th anniversary of the arrival of British settlers in the country.
Captain James Cook arrived at Botany Bay in Australia's east coast near current-day Sydney on April 29, 1770.

India Ranks 53rd in Budget Transparency, Accountability

The Open budget survey has placed India at 53rd position among 117 nations in terms of budget accountability and transparency. The survey conducted by the International Budget Partnership (IBP) released the ranking on April 29, 2020.
IBP has provided a transparency score of 49 out of 100 to India's Union budget process. The provided score to India is higher than the global average score of 45.
Other developing countries, with an exception to China, have scored much higher transparency scores in comparison to India. New Zealand has gained the highest score of 87.
