Tamil Nadu Ranks 2nd after AP in New Job Creation under IBPS Scheme

  • The India Business Process Outsourcing Promotion Scheme (IBPS) launched by the Centre has facilitated expansion of several IT and BPO companies in tier-II and III cities across the country and Tamil Nadu has become the second State in new job generation, the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) said.
  • Under the IBPS Scheme, Andhra Pradesh is the highest in employment generation by creating 12,234 new jobs followed by Tamil Nadu at 9,401, while remaining was spread across Punjab, Odisha, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Bihar.
  • STPI, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, is the executing agency for India BPO Promotion Scheme.

India to Hold 2-day BRICS Meet on Green Hydrogen Initiatives

  • India is set to host a two-day summit on Green Hydrogen initiatives involving the BRICS nations.
  • The event offers a platform to share their respective Green Hydrogen initiatives and views on how to take it to the next level in their own countries.
  • The online event will be held via a video conference and will conclude on June 23.
  • The event will be anchored by India's state-run power major NTPC.

A. K. Sharma is UP BJP's Vice President

  • The Uttar Pradesh unit of Bhartiya Janata Party appointed its state MLC A. K. Sharma, a former IAS officer, as its state vice president.
  • The announcement of the new appointment was made by the BJP state unit's president Swatantra Dev Singh.
  • Singh also announced the appointments of Archana Mishra from Lucknow and Amit Valmiki from Bulandshahr as secretaries of the state unit.
  • BJP MLC A. K. Sharma is also considered close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Political Parties in Kashmir Welcome PM's Initiative of Calling All-Party Meet

  • The political parties in Jammu and Kashmir have welcomed the Prime Minister's Initiative of calling an All-Party meet. The meeting is to be held on the 24th of June 2021. All the regional and national parties of Jammu and Kashmir have welcomed this step and said that dialogue is the only way forward.
  • This is the first time New Delhi has initiated a political process in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of article 370. The UT has been under President's rule since.

India Abstains from Voting on UN's Myanmar Resolution, Supports ASEAN Initiative

  • India abstained from voting on the United Nations General Assembly's (UNGA's) resolution for an arms embargo against Myanmar, saying its views were not reflected in the draft resolution before the Assembly passed it. The UN's resolution demonstrated widespread global opposition to the Myanmar military and demanded that the country's democratic transition be restored.

Philip C. Tocher Joins Andhra Pradesh Ruling Party YSRCP

  • Former Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Christian minority leader Philip C. Tocher has joined Andhra Pradesh's ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP).
  • Tocher joined YSRCP in the presence of party founder and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at his camp office.
  • Back in January, Tocher resigned from the TDP, accusing party supremo Nara Chandrababu Naidu for his remarks on the Christian community.
  • He was with TDP since its inception in 1983 and went on to be nominated as the Anglo-Indian MLA during the TDP regime from 2014 to 2019.

India and Pakistan NSAs to be in Tajikistan Next Week for SCO Meeting

  • India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Pakistani NSA Moeed Yusuf will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meet next week in Dushanbe (Tajikistan).
  • The in-person meeting along with the NSAs of other countries is slated for June 23 and 24.
  • The development comes at a time when both New Delhi and Islamabad have been cautious in ties in the last few months. This year in February, the Indian and Pakistan army had agreed to observe the 2003 ceasefire pact at the Line of Control (LOC) in Kashmir. Since then, the pact has stood and the area hasn't seen any firing.

PM Narendra Modi's Approval Rating Highest among World Leaders

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to fare better than other global leaders in terms of approval ratings as per a survey conducted by an American data intelligence firm, Morning Consult.
  • Despite a decline in popularity ratings during the devastating second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, PM Narendra Modi's global approval ratings have stood at 66 percent, which is better than other world leaders of over 13 countries including US, UK, Russia, Australia, France, Canada, Brazil and Germany.
  • The American data intelligence firm, Morning Consult, regularly tracks approval ratings of world leaders. As per the ratings issued in June 2021, PM Modi had bagged first position, followed by Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi with 65% and Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador with 63%. 

Lok Janshakti Party Elects Pashupati Kumar Paras as President

  • Amid the ongoing tussle between Chirag Paswan and his uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras, the latter has been elected as national president of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP).
  • The executive committee of the LJP has 76 members and the majority of them are with Paras, electing him as the president of the LJP. The election was held at the official residence of strongman leader Suraj Bhan Singh in Patna.

Govt. Appoints Aashish Chandorkar as Director as India's WTO Mission

  • Ahead of the WTO's ministerial conference later this year, the government has appointed a private person Aashish Chandorkar as Counsellor in India's Permanent Mission in the World Trade Organisation for three years.
  • For the first time, a private person has been appointed at the Mission.
  • Chandorkar is director of Bengaluru-based policy think tank Smahi Foundation of Policy and Research.
  • The WTO is a 164-member multi-lateral body, which deals with global trade. India is a member since 1995.

Centre Opens 14 Disability Early Intervention Centres

  • The Union Social Justice and Empowerment (SJE) Ministry launched 14 cross disability early intervention centres across the country to provide support to infants and young children at risk of or with disabilities.
  • SJE Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot virtually inaugurated the centres that are located at seven national institutes and seven composite regional centres of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
  • Through the centres, which have been started as a pilot, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal are covered. The DEPwD said all its 21 composite regional centres would have early intervention centres gradually.

India and Kyrgyzstan Review Bilateral Cooperation in Diverse Areas

  • India and Kyrgyz Republic reviewed the bilateral cooperation in diverse areas including political, economic, commercial, defence, development partnership, capacity building, consular matters and cultural cooperation. Special emphasis was laid on timely implementation of decisions taken and MoUs and agreements signed during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Kyrgyz Republic in June 2019.
  • Both the sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest and agreed to enhance cooperation in the UN and multilateral arena. The 11th round of Foreign Office Consultations between the two countries was held through virtual mode.

DMK Demands Separate Bypolls to Three RS Seats

  • DMK Parliamentary party leader T.R. Baalu urged the Election Commission of India to conduct separate byelections to the three Rajya Sabha seats from Tamil Nadu without further delay.
  • The vacancies have been caused by the death of AIADMK member A. Mohammedjan and the election of two other members R. Vaithilingam and K.P. Munusamy to the State Assembly in the 2021 election.
  • The delay impedes Tamil Nadu from being adequately represented in the Rajya Sabha, and goes against the spirit of democracy and goals enshrined in the Constitution.

R. Selvam is Speaker of Puducherry Assembly

  • BJP legislator R. Selvam was elected unopposed as Speaker of the Puducherry Assembly.
  • Pro tem speaker K. Lakshminarayanan announced the election of Selvam as Speaker of the House.
  • Selvam was elected to the House from Manavely constituency and he is among the first legislators.
  • Selvam is the 21st Speaker of territorial Assembly.

PM Modi Virtually Addresses 5th Edition of VivaTech in Paris

  • Prime Minister, Narendra Modi virtually addressed the 5th edition of VivaTech. VivaTech is one of the largest digital and start-up events of Europe, held in Paris every year since 2016. PM Modi was invited as a Guest of Honour to deliver the keynote address at VivaTech 2021, which has been organised from 16-19 June 2021 in Paris. During his address, PM Modi invited the world to invest in India based on the five pillars: Talent, Market, Capital, Eco-system and, Culture of openness.
  • Other prominent speakers of the event include the President of France Mr. Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of Spain Mr. Pedro Sanchez, and Ministers/MPs from various European countries.
  • VivaTech is jointly organised by Publicis Groupe, a prominent advertising and marketing conglomerate, and Les Echos, a leading French media group.
  • The event brings together stakeholders in technology innovation and the startup ecosystem.

Drone Survey Mandatory for All National Highway Projects

  • The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) mandated the use of drones for monthly video recording of all national highway projects during their different stages of development, construction, operation and maintenance.
  • NHAI has mandated that contractors and concessionaires will carry out the drone video recording in the presence of the Supervision Consultant, and upload comparative of the current and last month on NHAI's portal 'Data Lake', capturing all project-related developments in a month.
  • Supervision consultants will analyse these video recordings and provide their inputs/comments in the digital monthly progress reports covering various aspects of the project development.
