IPL Orange Cap Winner 2023

  • IPL Orange Cap Winner 2023: Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill won the Orange Cap in IPL 2023 with 890 runs in 17 matches. He scored 4 fifties and 3 centuries. Gill was in top form throughout the tournament, scoring runs at a strike rate of 157.80. He was particularly impressive in the second half of the tournament, scoring 600 runs in his last 8 matches.
  • The Orange Cap in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is awarded to the player who scores the most runs in a season. The player who holds the Orange Cap at the end of the season is awarded the cap. The Orange Cap is a prestigious award, and is seen as a mark of excellence for batsmen in the IPL. The Orange Cap was first awarded in the 2008 season, and has been won by 12 different batsmen since then. The most successful batsman in Orange Cap history is David Warner, who has won the award three times. Other multiple winners include Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli, who have each won the award twice.

Ambati Rayudu Announces IPL Retirement

  • Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Ambati Rayudu played his last IPL match when his team squared off against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in 2023. The veteran batter confirmed the development through a tweet.
  • Having who made his IPL debut 13 years back in 2010 for Mumbai Indians won the title thrice with Rohit Sharma & Co. in 2013, 2015 and 2017 before being signed by the Chennai Super Kings in 2018.

CSK Beat GT to Win IPL Title for Record-equalling Fifth Time

  • Chennai Super Kings claimed a record-equalling fifth Indian Premier League title with a five-wicket win over Gujarat Titans in a rain-affected but thrilling summit showdown at the Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
  • CSk were chasing a revised total of 171 in 15 overs after rain interrupted their chase in the first over on Reserve Day of IPL 2023 Final. Gujarat TItans posted a record total of 214 for 4 in 20 overs but CSK held the nerves when it mattered the most to clinch the record-equalling 5th title.
  • CSK needed 13 runs with Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja in the middle and Mohit Sharma, who picked up 27 wickets on his IPL return with Gujarat Titans, delivered yorkers with perfection to bring the equation down to 10 from 2 balls.
  • While it looked improbable for CSK, Ravindra Jadeja had other ideas as he hit a six in the 5th delivery of the over before hitting the winning runs with a boundary.

IPL Purple Cap Winner 2023

  • Mohammed Shami of Gujarat Titans won the Purple Cap in IPL 2023 with 28 wickets in 16 matches. He took 11 wickets in the powerplay, which was the most by any bowler in the tournament. Shami was in top form throughout the tournament, bowling with pace and accuracy. He was particularly impressive in the second half of the tournament, taking 17 wickets in his last 8 matches. Three Gujarat Titans bowlers currently occupy the top-three spots in the race for the IPL 2023 Purple Cap.
  • The Purple Cap is an award given to the leading wicket-taker of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The bowler with the most wickets in the tournament during the season is allowed to wear the Cap in the field. In an event of a tie, the Purple Cap is awarded to the bowler with a better economy rate.
  • The Purple Cap was first awarded in the 2008 season, and has been won by 13 different bowlers since then. The most successful bowlers in Purple Cap history are Dwayne Bravo, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar who have won the award twice (in 2013 and 2015) and (2016 and 2017), respectively. Yuzvendra Chahal won the Purple Cao in 2022.

Yarraji Wins Gold in Germany

  • National record holder Jyothi Yarraji ran her second career-best 100 metres hurdles race and won gold at the Kurpfalz Gala event at Weinheim in Germany.
  • Yarraji clocked 12.84 seconds at the World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger level meet, just two seconds outside her national record time of 12.82 seconds, which she had set in 2022.
  • Another national record holder Amlan Borgohain clocked 20.66s against a headwind of 0.2 m/s to win gold in the men's 200m race. This was his third career-best timing. His national record set in 2022 stands at 20.52s.

India Shotgun Coaches Russell Mark, Lauryn Mark Resign

  • In a big loss to the shotgun team, India's foreign trap coach Russell Mark and skeet coach Lauryn Mark, who was also the high performance manager of the team, have resigned from their posts over delay in contract renewal.
  • As per reports, the husband-wife duo sent in a joint resignation letter after they were put off by the delay in contract negotiations and their long-standing disagreements with the high performance director Dr Pierre Beauchamp.
  • Their contracts had ended in March and negotiations were underway to extend it.

H. S. Prannoy Clinches Maiden BWF World Tour Title

  • India's H. S. Prannoy beat China's Weng Hong Yang 21-19, 13-21, 21-18 in the Malaysia Masters 2023 final in Kuala Lumpur and claimed his first BWF World Tour title.
  • Prannoy was vital in India's thrilling Thomas Cup victory in 2022, but he had not won an individual trophy since the 2017 US Open Grand Prix Gold. The Kerala shuttler came close to ending his title drought in 2022 when he reached the finals of the Swiss Open and finished in the semi-finals of the Malaysian Open and the Indonesia Super 1000.

P. V. Sindhu, Prannoy Enter Quarter-finals of Malaysia Masters

  • Star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy booked their places in the quarterfinals of the Malaysia Masters with contrasting wins over their respective rivals .
  • While double Olympic medallist and sixth seed Sindhu disposed of Aya Ohori of Japan in straight games in women's singles, Prannoy had to dig deep to get the better of Shi Feng Li of China in a tough three-game men's singles contest.

Jayaprakash Re-elected as President of Swimming Federation of India

  • N. Jayaprakash and Monal D. Chokshi were re-elected president and secretary of the Swimming Federation of India (SFI) at its annual general body meeting.
  • The target activities of SFI for the next four years will be to develop grassroots' participation by holding camps and coaches' clinics at the State-level. Jayaprakash was elected unanimously as the president of SFI in an Annual General Body Meeting and Election held in Chennai. The event was held with the aim to facilitate the election of new office-bearers who will steer the future of swimming in India.
  • The Federation has identified key focus areas for its Mission 2028, aimed at furthering the development of swimming in the country. These focus areas include the establishment of a National Database of Swimmers, Coaches, and Academies, the implementation of an Indigenous Coaches Education & Certification pathway, the creation of a systematic Talent Scouting Structure and Protocols, the review of the Competition Structure, and the development of a National Talent Pool & Athlete Development Pathway.

ICC announces Prize Money for India vs Australia WTC Final Winner and Runners-up

  • ICC announced the prize money for the winners and runner-ups of the World Test Championship final between India and Australia slated to be played at The Oval, England from June 7 to 11 with June 12 being the reserve day. ICC said the Australia-India WTC final will have a major incentive for both teams as other than the crowning glory in the longest format of the game, the winners will also collect $1.6 million as the winners' prize money. The losing finalists will pocket $800,000.
  • The tournament prize money is the same as that for the inaugural edition of the championship – ICC World Test Championship 2019-21 – a total purse of $3.8 million.
  • All nine ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 participants will get a share in the $3.8 million purse. South Africa earned $450,000 by finishing third in the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 standings.
