Mumbai recorded maximum temperature of 36.6 degrees Celsius, the highest June temperature since 2015. The temperature was three degrees above normal.
Minimum temperature, meanwhile, was normal at 28.8 degrees Celsius. By evening, the sky had become overcast.
Monsoon has hit Kerala and is expected to reach Mumbai soon.

India Backs Dhanauri for International Wetland Tag
The National Capital Region (NCR) may get a second wetland of international importance in Dhanauri, Greater Noida, if India's proposal to declare the 100-hectare wetland a Ramsar site of international importance gets accepted.
If accepted by the Ramsar Convention, which is the intergovernmental treaty that provides the framework for conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources, Dhanauri will get legal protection from land use change.
There are nine criteria for being accepted as a Ramsar site, including that the site should support vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered species or threatened ecological communities.
A wetland can also be considered for the tag if it regularly supports 1% individuals of a species or subspecies of water birds.
Steps to Turn Golden Temple Complex Green
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which manages the historic Sikh shrines, has taken some initiatives to increase green cover in the Golden Temple complex which is frequented by lakhs of devotees and tourists daily.
Just inside the entrance from the Brahm Buta bazaar side, a 'vertical garden' comprising 24,000 plants of different varieties has been developed with the flower pots fixed to the walls.
After the Akal Purakh Ki Fauj and other Sikh bodies started plantation on the rooftops of some buildings, the SGPC kicked off a similar drive on the rooftop of Teja Samundri Hall, its administrative building, to create a green cover in and around the complex.
As part of the plan, the rooftops will be turned into terrace gardens.

Power from Ghazipur Waste-to-energy Plant
Delhi Metro became the first-ever such project in the country to receive power generated from a waste-to-energy plant.
Continuing with its various environment-friendly initiatives, the Delhi Metro has started receiving 2 MW power from a 12 MW capacity plant from a company in Ghazipur.
This would be the first-ever attempt by any metro project in the country to procure and utilise energy from waste-to-energy plants and thus, contribute towards 'Swachh Bharat Mission' and also help in creating awareness about the importance of waste management.

Noida's Urban Wildlife
In a positive indication of the district's ecological balance, a boost in urban wildlife has been recorded in a recent census concluded in May. Some species like blackbuck, fox and peacock have doubled their populations over the last eight years.
A hike in the breeding population of certain species like fox, porcupine (sahi), civet (bijju), wild cat and wild boar also made their way to the forest department's checklist of 4,228 animals of over 15 species in the 2019 census.
The last census, held in 2011, recorded 3,692 animals.
The census was held by the district forest department over 20 days in May.

DTTDC Fined for Choking Yamuna
The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has imposed an environment compensation of Rs. 5.5 lakh on the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation Ltd (DTTDC) for choking the Yamuna's flow with debris from the Signature Bridge.
The bridge was given an environmental clearance by the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) in February 2017 with "specific conditions" that no waste, including construction spoils, should be dumped into the river and that the river's flow should not be obstructed at any point.
During inspection, DPCC had found that around 3,500 tonnes of construction and demolition debris was lying on the river and choking the flow of the water. To date, around 2,500 tons of debris had already been removed. The rest is being removed.
DPCC has also submitted a report in this regard with the NGT-appointed Yamuna pollution monitoring committee.
