Vietnam's President Nguyen Xuan Phuc Quits, Blamed for Ministers' 'Violations'

Vietnam's President Nguyen Xuan Phuc submitted his resignation after the ruling Communist Party found him responsible for violations and wrongdoing of numerous officials under him.
Phuc, a former Prime Minister, has held the largely ceremonial position for less than two years.
There was widespread speculation about Phuc's resignation following dismissals of two Deputy Prime Ministers, who were working under him when he led the government.
To become effective, Phuc's resignation requires approval from the National Assembly.
Vietnam has no paramount ruler and is officially led by four "pillars": the powerful party's secretary, the President, the Prime Minister and the chair of the parliament.

Nepal PM 'Prachanda' Expands Cabinet to 23 with 6 Women in Ministry

Nepal Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda expanded his eight-member Cabinet to 23 with the induction of 12 ministers and three ministers of state, including six women ministers.
Prachanda the CPN-Maoist Centre leader was sworn in as the Nepal Prime Minister in December 2022, for the third time after he dramatically walked out of the pre-poll alliance led by the Nepali Congress and joined hands with opposition leader K. P. Sharma Oli.

Sri Lankan President Says Full Implementation of 13A Needed for Unity

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that his government is hoping to fully implement the 13th Amendment to its Constitution as mooted by India to facilitate unity among all the communities so that they could live as one.
India has been pressing Sri Lanka to implement the 13th Amendment which was brought in after the Indo-Sri Lankan agreement of 1987.
The 13A provides for the devolution of power to the Tamil community.

World's Richest Actor List, Shah Rukh Khan Beats Tom Cruise

Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan with his more than three decades of work in the film industry garnered millions of fans all over the world and an estimated net worth of $770 million, making him the richest actor in Asia and fourth richest actor all over the world. Beating fellow immensely famous and cult actors like Tom Cruise, Jackie Chan, and George Clooney, Shah Rukh Khan took the fourth position in the list of eight richest actors of the world released by World of Statistics.
Richest actors in the world: Jerry Seinfeld (US): $1 billion, Tyler Perry (US): $1 billion, Dwayne Johnson (US): $800 million, Shah Rukh Khan (Indian): $770 million, Tom Cruise (US): $620 million, Jackie Chan (Hong Kong): $520 million, George Clooney (US): $500 million and Robert De Niro (US): $500 million.

Clare Lombardelli Appointed as OECD Chief Economist

Chief Economic Adviser to the Treasury, Clare Lombardelli, was appointed as the new Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Chief Economist, the first time a British person has held this role in thirty years.
As OECD Chief Economist, Clare will be working with OECD member countries and partners to confront difficult macroeconomic and structural challenges. She replaced France's Laurence Boone, who has held the post since 2018.
Clare has worked in government since 2005, after starting her career as an economist at the Bank of England. During this time her roles have included Principal Private Secretary to the Chancellor, Private Secretary for Economic Affairs to the Prime Minister and Budget Director. She has also worked as a technical adviser for the International Monetary Fund. She will step down from the Treasury after the Spring Budget.

EU, NATO Set up Joint Task Force to Protect Critical Infrastructure

The European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) agreed to set up a task force to better protect critical infrastructure and increase resilience.
The task force, which will bring together experts from both sides, will identify key threats to critical infrastructure and their strategic vulnerabilities, and propose mitigating measures and remedial actions.
The fields to be covered include transport, energy, digital and space, according to von der Leyen.

UK, EU Poised to Enter Final Stretch of Post-Brexit Deal Negotiations

The UK and European Union are poised to enter the final stretch of negotiations over post-Brexit trading arrangements for Northern Ireland. After years of distrust and tension both sides are optimistic that a settlement is within reach.
Nevertheless, there are a host of important and tricky areas left to resolve before a durable solution is found.

Italy Backs Appian Way's Candidacy for UNESCO World Heritage Site

Italy's Ministry of Culture backed the Appian Way's candidacy to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the first time such a bid has had national support in the country.
The Appian Way is a 2,300-year-old road connecting Rome to the south-eastern Italian city of Brindisi. When work on the road began in 312 BC, it was one of the largest infrastructure projects in ancient Rome.
Because the road is around 550 kilometre long, the candidacy of the Appian Way will have the backing of four of the Italian regions it passes through -- Lazio, Campania, Basilicata, and Puglia, as well as 12 provinces and cities, and 73 towns.
In addition to the Ministry of Culture, 25 universities and 15 national or regional parks have also backed the candidacy.
