Vladimir Putin Secures Another Six-Year Term in Russian Election
President Vladimir Putin secured another six years in power in a preordained election landslide that came amid the harshest crackdown on the opposition and free speech since Soviet times.
The Central Election Commission said Putin received 87.28% of the vote, the highest number for any president in post-Soviet Russia. The turnout was 77.44% of the electorate, also the biggest. Others on the ballot all finished in single digits, and anti-war candidates were not allowed to run.

Palestinian President Appoints Long-time Adviser as Prime Minister
President Mahmoud Abbas appointed Mohammad Mustafa as the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority (PA), which runs parts of the occupied West Bank.
Mustafa, a US-educated economist and former senior World Bank official, is a long-time adviser to the President.
His predecessor, Mohammed Shtayyeh, resigned weeks ago, citing the emerging reality in the Gaza Strip.
Abbas is under pressure from the US to reform the PA so it can govern Gaza after the Israel-Hamas war ends.
India Jumps 14 Ranks on UNDP Gender Inequality Index
The Gender Inequality Index 2022 was released by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in their Human Development Report 2023/2024.
On the Gender Inequality Index (GII) 2022, India stood at rank 108 out of 193 countries with a score of 0.437. India stood at rank 122 out of 191 countries with a score of 0.490 in the Gender Inequality Index 2021.
This shows a significant jump of 14 ranks on GII 2022 vis-à-vis GII 2021.
Over the last 10 years, India's rank in GII has become consistently better, indicating progressive improvement in achieving gender equality in the country. In 2014, this rank was 127, which now has become 108.
The Gender Inequality Index (GII) is a composite measure that evaluates gender inequality across three dimensions: reproductive health, empowerment and labour market participation
It takes into account indicators such as maternal mortality ratio, adolescent birth rate, percentage of parliamentary seats held by women, population with secondary education by gender, and labour force participation by gender. A lower GII value indicates lower inequality between women and men.

Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' secured a vote of confidence in Parliament, as the Himalayan country struggled to maintain political stability.
Prachanda, a former guerilla leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), the third largest party in the House of Representatives, got 157 votes in the 275-member Lower House. He needed 138 votes to win the trust vote, his third since December 2022.

The mosque, located in the Al-Jawhara suburb of Jeddah, Saudi Arabian is named after the late Abdulaziz Abdullah Sharbatly and was commissioned by his wife, Saudi businesswoman Wajnat Abdulwahed, as a tribute to her late husband.
