Brendon McCullum England's New White-ball Coach

England Test coach Brendon McCullum was named their white-ball coach as well, making him the first all-format coach of England since his Test predecessor Chris Silverwood. McCullum's appointment came after the sacking of white-ball coach Matthew Mott under whom England failed to defend their 50-over and 20-over World Cup titles.
McCullum will start his twin role from January 2025. Interim white-ball head coach Marcus Trescothick will fulfil his role during the upcoming Australia series as well as the Caribbean tour in November as well.

Deepthi Jeevanji Wins Paralympics Bronze for India in Women's 400m T20

Deepthi Jeevanji clinched a bronze for India in the Paris 2024 Paralympics in the women's 400m T20 classification final. It was India's 16th medal at the Games.
She clocked a sensation 55.82 seconds in the final, finishing behind her counterparts from Ukraine and Turkey.
Deepthi hails from Telangana. She was born in the Kalleda village in the Warangal district. Having taken an interest in athletics from a young age, she overcame her intellectual impairment to shine on the international stage.

NorthEast United FC Claims Historic Durand Cup Title

Guwahati-based NorthEast United Football Club etched their names in Indian football history by clinching their maiden Durand Cup title. In a thrilling final that went to a penalty shootout, they defeated the defending champions, Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG), 4-3. The match took place at the iconic Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.
The Durand Cup 2024 also saw several individual awards being presented:
Golden Boot (top goal scorer): Noah Sadaoui (Kerala Blasters FC)
Golden Glove (Best Goalkeeper): Gurmeet Singh (NorthEast United FC)
Golden Ball (Best player of the tournament): Jithin MS (NorthEast United FC)
The Durand Cup, established in 1888 at Shimla by the British Indian Army, is the oldest football tournament in India and Asia. Named after the then-foreign secretary of British India, Mortimer Durand, the tournament has a rich history and has witnessed many iconic moments in Indian football.

Thulasimathi Murugesan and Manisha Ramadass Shine at Paris 2024 Paralympics

Indian para-badminton players Thulasimathi Murugesan and Manisha Ramadass clinched silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the women's singles SU5 class at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Their outstanding performances not only showcased their exceptional talent but also marked a historic moment for Indian badminton.
The two medals won by Thulasimathi and Manisha contributed to India's growing success at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

NorthEast United beats Mohun Bagan SG to win Durand Cup 2024

NorthEast United FC etched its name on the winner's plate of the Durand Cup as it won the 133rd edition of Asia's oldest football tournament by overpowering defending Mohun Bagan Super Giant 4-3 via a tie-breaker, at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Saturday. Mohun Bagan established a two-goal lead in the opening half but NorthEast fought back after the break, scoring two goals in three minutes to make it 2-2 at the end of the regulation time. With no extra time allotted, the match went straight into penalty shootouts where NorthEast United goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh made two saves to turn the tables on Mohun Bagan and secure the maiden Durand Cup crown for his side.

Paralympics 2024: Nitesh Kumar Wins Gold in Para Badminton Men's Singles SL3

Nitesh Kumar won gold for India in the para badminton men's singles SL3 event of the Paris 2024 Paralympics held at the La Chapelle Arena in Paris on Monday. The first seed beat Great Britain's second-seeded Daniel Bethell 21-14, 18-21, 23-21 in the gold medal match to win India its second gold medal of the ongoing Paralympics. "I still don't feel it. May be when I go to the podium and the national anthem is played, it will sink in," Nitesh said after the match. The SL3 category includes players that have moderately restricted movement in one or both limbs or the absence of limbs. The game is played in a half-width court with no restriction on the shots played.
Nitesh and Daniel began Game 1 with long rallies characteristic of the SL3 category and after a neck-and-neck battle till the midway stage, the Indian shuttler wrested the momentum, speeding to a 21-14 win.
The second game too saw a close battle but the 29-year-old Indian stuttered in the final few points of Game 2, forcing a deciding game.
"I have lost such situation against him and I didn't want to make the same mistakes. I had lost my calm in the past so I told myself that I should keep fighting for each point. At 19-20 in decider also I told myself to stick in there and make him earn the point," Nitesh added.
A 19-16 lead in the decider saw Nitesh almost within touching distance of the gold but Daniel kept him on his toes, the two exchanging gold medal points before the Indian finally triumphed.

Nishad Kumar Wins High Jump Silver

Team India athlete Nishad Kumar bagged a silver medal in the men's high jump - T47 category final at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
With a leap of 2.04 metres, this is also Kumar's season-best performance. It noted that he bagged a silver medal during the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics as well.
United States of America (USA) athlete Roderick Townsend-Roberts extended his lead over Kumar with a season-best jump of 2.08m and won the gold medal, and Russia's Georgii Margiev took the bronze.

Nicholas Pooran Overtakes Chris Gayle for Most T20 Sixes in a Calendar Year

West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran is having the year of his life and has broken his fellow countryman Chris Gayle's record of most T20 sixes in a calendar year. Pooran scored 97 while playing for Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL), hitting nine sixes in his innings.
In total, Pooran now has 139 sixes in 58 T20 matches he has played so far in the year 2024. Gayle had hit 135 sixes in 35 T20 matches he had played in 2015.
With a quarter of the year still left in 2024, Pooran is sure to have his record improved from the current 139 sixes.

Shakib Al Hasan Becomes Cricket's most Successful Left-arm Spinner

Shakib Al Hasan has led the revolution of the left-arm spin tribe between the two contrasting periods in a nearly 17-year active career. In Rawalpindi, the Bangladeshi maverick surpassed Daniel Vettori and became the most successful left-arm spinner, soaring to 707 wickets in 444 international appearances.
Shakib ranks 16th in the all-time list and remains the solitary bowler to record at least 100 T20I, 200 Test and 300 ODI wickets. No other player has achieved a double of 14,000 runs and 700 wickets in internationals.

Preethi Pal Wins India's First Bronze Medal from Para-athletics at 2024 Paralympics in Women's T3...

India's Preethi Pal won a bronze medal in the women's T35 100m event with a personal best time of 14.21 seconds at the Paralympics. Preethi's bronze is India's first medal from para-athletics in the Paris Paralympics.
China's Zhou Xia (13.58) and Guo Qianqian (13.74) won the gold and silver respectively. T35 classification is meant for athletes who have coordination impairments such as hypertonia, ataxia and athetosis, as well as cerebral palsy.

This initiative aims to empower retired athletes by providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance their employability and career development.
The RESET Programme is designed to bridge the generational gap by leveraging the unique experiences of retired athletes to benefit aspiring athletes. The programme aims to support the growth of sports in India and contribute to nation-building by nurturing future champions.
Eligible participants include retired athletes aged 20-50 who have won international medals, participated in international events, or have been national or state medallists.

Avani Lekhara successfully defended her women's 10m air rifle shooting standing SH1 title at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, becoming the first Indian woman to win two gold medals in the Games' history.
The Indian para shooter scored 249.7 in the final - creating a new Paralympic record and also shattering the previous record of 249.6, set by her exactly three years ago on her Games debut at Tokyo 2020.
The 22-year-old Indian shooter took the gold medal ahead of Republic of Korea's Lee Yunri, who shot 246.8 to win silver.

Bangladesh Triumphs in SAFF U-20 Championship 2024
