Scientists Create New Type of Biodegradable Polymeric Material
A team of researchers from the University of British Columbia and elsewhere identified a bacterial enzyme that can make a new type of polysaccharide, which is similar to the biopolymer chitin. Named acholetin, the new polymer is biodegradable and could be useful for drug delivery, tissue engineering and other applications.
Strings of sugars called polysaccharides are the most abundant biopolymers on Earth and play many roles in organisms.
Because they are biocompatible and biodegradable, these molecules are promising carrier materials for a broad range of therapeutics.
The identity of individual sugar molecules in the chain, and the way they are linked together, make them function in different ways.
Enzymes known as glycoside phosphorylases can cut certain polysaccharides apart or make new ones, depending on the reaction conditions.

660 Technologies Developed under Cyber Scheme against Target of 6,824
Union Minister Jitendra Singh informed the Lok Sabha that 660 technologies against the target of 6,824 technologies were developed under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems.
The National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems aims to address the technological requirements of the society, taking into account international trends and road maps of leading countries for the next generation technologies.

Country's First Artificial Intelligence & Robotics Technology Park Launched in Bengaluru
The country's first Artificial Intelligence & Robotics Technology Park (ARTPARK) was launched in Bengaluru. It is promoted by a not-for-profit foundation set up by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, with a seed capital of Rs. 230 crore from the State and Central governments.
The ARTPARK has the objective of channelizing innovations to create a societal impact by executing ambitious mission-mode R&D projectsin healthcare, education, mobility, infrastructure, agriculture, retail, and cyber-security aiming to solve problems unique to India.

ISRO Successfully Conducts Ground Test of Solid Booster Stage for SSLV
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully completed the ground test of the solid-fuel based booster stage (SS1) of its new Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV), completing the ground testing of all three stages of the launch vehicle. The new launch vehicle is now ready for its first development flight, which is scheduled for May 2022.
The SSLV was designed to be smaller, cheaper, and quickly assembled for commercial launches on demand. The SSLV is likely to cost Rs. 30 crore as compared to Rs. 120 crore for each Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), which is India's workhorse. It can be assembled by a team of six within seven days in comparison to a team of 600 that takes a couple of months to assemble a PSLV.
The launch vehicle will carry smaller payloads of about 500 kg in comparison to 1,750 kg carried by PSLV.

Aerospace Start-up Unveils Rover to Carry Astronauts to Moon, Mars
US-based aerospace start-up Venturi Astrolab unveiled a prototype of an interplanetary rover that is designed to transport cargo and people across the surface of the Moon - and eventually, Mars one day.
Called FLEX, for Flexible Logistics and Exploration, the truck-sized rover can crouch down and lift payloads up from the surface of the Moon, carrying them under its belly before depositing them at their intended location.
The rover can manoeuvre semi-autonomously, be controlled remotely - or it can even be modified to include a crew interface, allowing astronauts to ride on the rover while guiding it through lunar terrain.
