Pat Cummins is Australia's Test Captain

Pat Cummins was confirmed as Australia's 47th Test captain, with former skipper Steve Smith his deputy, as Australia's Test team breaks new ground ahead of the Ashes 2021 next month. After an interview process and ratification from the full board of Cricket Australia, Cummins became the first fast bowler to be a full-time skipper of the Australian Test team, and the first bowler of any kind to captain the team since Richie Benaud.

RIL to Own New Cricket Team in Emirates Cricket Board's New UAE T20 League

Reliance Industries Limited, which owns IPL side Mumbai Indians, is set to acquire a new franchise in the Emirates Cricket Board's upcoming UAE T20 League.
The move is the first major overseas expansion of Reliance Industries' cricket operations in the global franchise-based eagues.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Finals: Tamil Nadu Defeats Karnataka

Tamil Nadu became the most successful team in the history of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy history as they won their 3rd title in New Delhi, outclassing arch-rivals Karnataka in a thrilling final. Big-hitter Shahrukh Khan pulled off a stunning heist as he hit a 15-ball 33, including a last-ball six when Tamil Nadu needed 5 runs in the last delivery of their 152-run chase at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Tamil Nadu have successfully averaged their 1-run defeat in the 2019 final as they broke Karnataka hearts with Shahrukh Khan's last-ball six. It was also the end of Karnataka's perfect record in the finals of domestic while-ball tournaments.

Harmanpreet Kaur Becomes First Indian to be Named WBBL 'Player of Tournament'

Harmanpreet Kaur became the first Indian to be named WBBL Player of the Tournament following a stunning season for Melbourne Renegades after scoring 399 runs in the tournament at an average of 66.50 and strike-rate of 135.25, including three match-winning half-centuries.
Harmanpreet has been breaking ground for Indian women's cricket ever since becoming the first Indian to play in both the WBBL and the Super League in England.

Messi, Ronaldo and Salah on Shortlist for FIFA Best Men's Player Award

Paris St Germain forward Lionel Messi, Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah are among the 11 players shortlisted for The Best FIFA Men's Player award.
The trio are joined by last year's winner Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich, Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne and Chelsea duo N'Golo Kante and Jorginho.
Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema, Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland and PSG pair Kylian Mbappe and Neymar complete the list.

CSK Ropes in TVS Eurogrip as Principal Sponsor

TVS Eurogrip, India's leading two and three-wheeler tyre brand, joined hands with four-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings as the principal sponsor for the next three years (2022-2024). As per reports, the deal for three years was signed for Rs. 100 crore, one of the highest among IPL teams at present.
The partnership will give TVS Eurogrip visibility on the front of Chennai Super Kings' famed yellow jersey. CSK has the largest and most engaged fan base amongst all IPL teams.

ICC Appoints Geoff Allardice as Permanent CEO

Australian Geoff Allardice was appointed as permanent CEO of the International Cricket Council after serving the role on an interim basis for more than eight months.
Allardice thus replaced Manu Sawhney.
Allardice, a former Australian first-class cricketer and administrator, was the ICC General Manager, Cricket for eight years. He had previously held a similar role at Cricket Australia.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

M Shahrukh Khan's late heroics (33 not out off 15 balls), including a last-ball six, helped Tamil Nadu defend their Syed Mushtaq Trophy title, beating Karnataka by four wickets in a humdinger final of the 2021/22 edition at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
It was also the second consecutive season Khan hit the winning runs to clinch the trophy.

Lewis Hamilton wins in Qatar with Max Verstappen second

Seven-times world champion Lewis Hamilton won the inaugural Qatar Grand Prix for Mercedes to cut Max Verstappen's overall Formula One lead to eight points with two races remaining.
Red Bull's Verstappen was second, after starting seventh following a five-place grid drop for failing to respect warning flags in Saturday's qualifying, but took a bonus point for fastest lap.
Double world champion Fernando Alonso was third for Renault-owned Alpine, the 40-year-old Spaniard's first podium finish since 2014.

Alexander Zverev showed off new, more aggressive, tactics in a dominant 6-4, 6-4 win over second-ranked Daniil Medvedev to lift the trophy at the ATP Finals for the second time.
A day after beating top-ranked Novak Djokovic over three sets in the semifinals, Zverev raised his game to a new dimension.
