India in the Highest Risk Zone

India will be the most affected country after China as a result of rising sea levels caused by global warming.
With a 2 degree rise in temperature, 64m people in China, based on the 2010 population, would be living in areas submerged by rising seas. However, with a 4 degree rise this jumps to 145m people. China is followed in second place by India, with 20m and 55m respectively. India’s neighbour, Bangladesh, completes the top three most at risk.

Global Effort Needed to Save Migratory Birds

Scientists have called for a greater international collaborative effort to save the world's migratory birds, many of which are at risk of extinction due to loss of habitat along their flight paths.
A new study reveals that more than 90 per cent of the world's migratory birds are inadequately protected due to poorly coordinated conservation around the world
The research found huge gaps in the conservation of migratory birds, particularly across China, India, and parts of Africa and South America.
This results in the majority of migratory birds having ranges that are well covered by protected areas in one country, but poorly protected in another.

30% Rise in Tiger Population

As per reports, there has been a 30 percent increase in the number of tigers in the country since 2010.
The estimated number of tigers in the country has gone up to 2,226 as compared to 1,706 in 2010.

Rare Fossil of Horned Dinosaur Found

A rare fossil of a dog-sized horned dinosaur has been uncovered in eastern North America that roamed the Earth up to 100 million years ago.
The fossil provides evidence of an east-west divide in North American dinosaur evolution.

Amazonian Trees at Risk of Extinction

A new study has revealed that more than half of the 15,000 species of tree found in the Amazon rain forest are now on the brink of extinction.
Forests in the Amazon have been declining since the 1950s.
A study concluded that the Amazon could harbor more than 15,000 tree species, of which 36 to 57 percent likely qualify as being globally threatened under IUCN Red List of Threatened Species criteria.
