Former Nagaland Governor R. N. Ravi Resigns as Centre's Interlocutor for Naga Peace Talks

Former Nagaland Governor R. N. Ravi resigned as the Centre's interlocutor for Naga peace talks.
The Ministry of Home Affairs accepted his resignation with immediate effect.
Ravi currently serves as the Governor of Tamil Nadu.
Ravi was leading the peace negotiations with the Nagaland insurgent group NSCN-IM since 2014. He continued his role as the interlocutor even after he was appointed the governor of Nagaland in July 2019.

UP Elections 2022: BJP to Contest in Alliance with Nishad Party, Apna Dal

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be contesting the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh in alliance with Nishad Party and Apna Dal, BJP's UP election in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan announced.
Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh said that the election will be fought under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Rajiv Bansal Appointed Aviation Secretary

Air India Chairman Rajiv Bansal has been appointed as the new aviation secretary as part of a major top-level bureaucratic reshuffle effected by the Centre.
K. Rajaraman, Additional Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Telecommunications.
Rajaraman will take over the charge from Anshu Prakash who is due to superannuate on September 30.
Bansal, a 1988 batch lAS officer of Nagaland cadre, will replace Pradeep Singh Kharola, upon his retirement this month-end.

Isha Kalia is New Mohali DC

Isha Kalia, a 2009-batch IAS officer, was appointed the new Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Mohali.
Prior to this, Kalia was posted as the director general school education (DGSE). She has also served as special secretary, department of health and family welfare, and as the Deputy Commissioner of Hoshiarpur, Fazilka, and Bathinda and special secretary, water supply and sanitation, and additional chief executive officer, Punjab bureau of investment promotion, and member secretary, Punjab state women commission.

BJP Prevails over AINRC, Nominates S. Selvaganapathy for RS Seat

The BJP prevailed over its alliance partner AINRC and nominated S. Selvaganapathy as its Rajya Sabha candidate from Puducherry.
As per reports, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy was pushing hard for his close aide and former Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao for the post. However, the BJP top brass was firm on nominating Selvaganapathy.
A former nominated MLA, Selvaganapathy runs a popular private school in the Union Territory and has an RSS background. He is also serving as the treasurer of the BJP local unit.
The election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Puducherry takes place on October 4. The term of incumbent AIADMK candidate N. Gokulakrishnan ends on October 6.

Assam Foreigners' Tribunal Says NRC is Final

The National Register of Citizens (NRC) published on August 31, 2019 is the "Final NRC", ruled a Foreigners' Tribunal (FT) in Assam, even as the Registrar General of India is yet to notify it.
Declaring a man Indian citizen, the tribunal in Karimganj district held that though National Identity Cards are yet to be issued, but there is no doubt that this NRC Assam published in 2019 is nothing but Final NRC".
The ruling was given by Sishir Dey, member (attached), FT-II, Karimganj in a 'D voter' (doubtful voter) case against one Bikram Singha of Jamirala village in the Patherkandi police station area of the district.

Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress Party Registers Landslide Victory in Local Body Polls

The ruling YSR Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh secured a victory in elections held to Zilla Parishads Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs) Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishads Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs).
Yuvajan Sramika Rythu (YSR) Congress Party, led by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, secured 502 ZPTCs out of 515 seats. The YSRCP also won a huge number of constituencies at the MPTC level by registering victory in 5,998 constituencies out of 10047.
The main opposition party Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, could win only 826 Mandal constituencies, while the party could only win six Zilla Parishad constituencies.
The YSRCP has a brute majority in Parliament, State and now local bodies seats.

'Katley' is State Fish of Sikkim

The Government of Sikkim has declared 'Copper Mahseer' locally named as 'Katley' as the state fish. Neolissochilus hexagonolepis is the scientific name of Copper Mahseer. The decision has been taken to highlight the importance of the Katley fish and to give emphasis to its conservation measures. The fish has high market value and is highly preferred by the public in the State.
The Sikkim government has also declared the reservoirs of the State to be open for fishing activities. License shall be issued by the Directorate of Fisheries to the interested individual fishermen or fishermen co-operative societies or SHGs for fishing in the reservoirs in accordance with the existing provisions under the Sikkim Fisheries Rules, 1990. The reservoirs are in Chungthang in North Sikkim, Legshep in West Sikkim along with Dikchu and Rorathang in East Sikkim.

Sukanta Majumdar Replaces Dilip Ghosh as West Bengal BJP Chief

The BJP replaced its West Bengal unit president Dilip Ghosh with Sukanta Majumdar, Lok Sabha MP from Balurghat in the state.
The party also appointed former Uttarakhand governor Baby Rani Maurya as its vice president.
Maurya is a Dalit leader and is expected to play a role in the assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, her native state.

State Food Safety Index 2021

Gujarat, Kerala and Tamil Nadu lead the third state food safety index rankings released by the food regulator, while Himachal Pradesh is the top ranked regional state at sixth place.
Punjab and Haryana are 11th and 12th, respectively, among 20 large states with Bihar ranked last.
Among the UTs, Jammu and Kashmir is the leader followed by Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Delhi and Chandigarh.
Among eight small states, Goa is ranked first and Mizoram last.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India releases the State Food Safety Index annually based on the overall performance on food safety indices.
The first such report was released on World Food Safety Day on June 7, 2019.
The 20 large states are Gujarat, Kerala, TN, Odisha, UP, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Telangana, Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar.
The small 8 states are Goa, Meghalaya, Manipur, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Tripura and Mizoram.
The 8 UTs are J&K, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Delhi, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Ladakh, Puducherry and Lakshadweep.
