Prashant Kishor Announces Political Debut, Launches Jan Suraaj Party

  • Political strategist-turned-activist Prashant Kishor launched his political outfit Jan Suraaj Party, a much-anticipated move by which he hopes to take the political landscape in Bihar by storm.
  • Kishor also named Manoj Bharti, a Madhubani-born former Indian Foreign Service officer, as working president of the party, saying that the latter will hold the post till March when organisational polls will be held.
  • The party was launched at Veterinary College Ground in the state capital in presence of many renowned figures, including former Union Minister Devendra Prasad Yadav, diplomat-turned-politician Pavan Varma and ex-MP Monazir Hassan.

2024 AYUSH Medical Value Travel Summit

  • Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush, and Union Minister of State, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, inaugurated the Ayush Medical Value Travel Summit 2024. The event took place in Mumbai.
  • Aim: To strengthen India's position in Medical Value Travel (MVT) by integrating traditional Indian systems of medicine Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy (Ayush) with modern healthcare systems.
  • The theme of the summit is 'Global Synergy in Ayush: Transforming Health and Wellness through Medical Value Travel'.
  • The summit is organised by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, the Government of Maharashtra, and key partners.

IBBI Celebrates Its 8th Annual Day

  • The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) celebrated its 8th Annual Day on October 1, 2024. Senior officers of the Government and regulatory bodies graced the occasion. Over the past eight years, the IBC has significantly accelerated the resolution of insolvency cases.
  • Ramalingam Sudhakar, the President of the National Company Law Tribunal, was the Chief Guest and delivered a keynote address.
  • Amitabh Kant, India's G20 Sherpa and Former CEO of NITI Aayog delivered the Annual Day lecture.
  • Dr. V. Anantha Nageswaran, Chief Economic Advisor, Ministry of Finance, Ms. Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Mr. Ravi Mittal, Chairperson IBBI also addressed on the occasion.
  • IBBI was established on 1st October 2016 under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016.
  • It is responsible for the implementation of the IBC.
  • The IBC amends and consolidates the laws relating to insolvency resolution of individuals, partnership firms and corporate persons in a time-bound manner.

Indra Sena Reddy Nallu Takes Oath as Governor of Mizoram

  • Indra Sena Reddy Nallu took oath as the Governor of Mizoram.
  • Gauhati High Court judge Justice Nelson Sailo administered the oath of office to Nallu at the Raj Bhavan.
  • Nallu who is the Governor of Tripura will be the holding additional charge of Mizoram during the absence of the incumbent Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, who is on leave due to health issues.
  • The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Lalduhoma and his cabinet colleagues, Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama, Lok Sabha MP Richard Vanlalhmangaiha and other senior officials.

Maharashtra Declares Desi Cows as 'Rajyamata-Gomata'

  • The Maharashtra government declared indigenous cows as 'Rajyamata-Gomata' in recognition of their historical and nutritional importance ahead of the forthcoming assembly elections. This decision reflects the state's commitment to preserving the significance of desi cows, a practice rooted in the Vedic period.
  • The notification, issued by the state Agriculture, Dairy Development, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries Department, highlights the role of indigenous cows in human nutrition, specifically the benefits of their milk. The importance of desi cow milk in ayurvedic and panchgavya treatments has been recognised for centuries.

Shreyams Kumar is New INS President

  • M. V. Shreyams Kumar of Mathrubhumi was elected President of The Indian Newspaper Society (INS), an apex body of publishers of newspapers, magazines and periodicals in the country. He will succeed Rakesh Sharma of Aaj Samaj.
  • Vivek Gupta of Sanmarg was elected the Deputy President and Karan Rajendra Darda of Lokmat the Vice President.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurates 5G Open RAN testing Lab at CDoT, Bangalore

  • Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia visited Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) Bengaluru Campus and inaugurated the 5G O-RAN (Open Radio Access Network) Testing lab.
  • The Lab will facilitate development of a complete Indian end to end 5G ecosystem in the areas of core, access, transport, cloud, orchestration and security.
  • The Minister lauded C-DOT's collaborative research initiatives including BharatRAN-1 and BharatRAN-2 for the development of O-RAN compliant disaggregated 5G RAN solution capable of operation in the FR1 (Frequency Range) and FR2 bands for public & private 5G networks.

Udhayanidhi Stalin Becomes Deputy Chief Minister

  • Udhayanidhi Stalin, the son of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, was elevated to the post of Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
  • The decision came along with a cabinet reshuffle, which saw Stalin expanding his cabinet by appointing Govi Chezhiaan as the fourth Dalit minister with the Higher Education portfolio.
  • This decision, announced by Raj Bhavan, marks an important moment in the ongoing leadership consolidation within the ruling DMK.
  • The swearing-in ceremony took place at Raj Bhavan, Chennai, solidifying Udhayanidhi's growing influence within the party and the government.

24 Parliamentary Standing Panels Formed: BJP to Lead 11, Allies 4, Opposition 9

  • Eleven of the 24 Parliamentary Standing Committees announced will be chaired by the BJP, nine by the Opposition parties, and four by the NDA allies. The Congress has been granted Chairs of four committees, while two each have gone to DMK and TMC, and one to the Samajwadi Party. NDA allies — JD(U), TDP, NCP and Shiv Sena — have been given a Chair each.
  • Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has been made a member of the Committee on Defence.

  • The Mankidia community became the 6th particularly vulnerable tribal group (PVTG) to get habitat rights over forests in Odisha. The Mankidia are a semi-nomadic community known for their traditional skill of rope making, trapping and eating monkeys.
  • The Mankidia community is an Austro-Asiatic community that ekes out a living mainly from the forests.
  • They constitute a semi-nomadic section of the Birhor tribe.
  • They have been identified as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) in Odisha.
  • They are primarily a food gathering and hunting community.
  • They are one of the most little-known forest dwelling and wandering communities of the state as well as the country.
