India Gifts Solar Panels to UN

Signifying its commitment to sustainability and climate action, India has gifted solar panels -- one each for the 193 UN member states -- that are being installed on the roof of the United Nations headquarters.
The solar panels, which are valued about a million dollars and gifted to all the UN member states in a symbolic gesture, are powered up to reach the max of 50 KW of generation power.
India has contributed nearly a million dollars to the ambitious solar project at the world body headquarters that entails installation of solar panels on the roof of the UN building.

Scientists Create First Ever Color-Changing 'Skin'

Researchers have created a chameleon-inspired smart skin that changes color when exposed to heat and sunlight, hoping that the new flexible material could find applications in camouflage, signaling, and anti-counterfeiting.
Besides chameleons, many other creatures such as the tetra fish have evolved the ability to change colour. But the colouration is not based on pigments, but on tiny particles in a repeating pattern, known as photonic crystals.
When light reflects off of these microscopic surfaces, it interferes with other beams of reflected light and produces a color, whose shade is altered when the distance between photonic crystals fluctuates.

India Joins Global Antimicrobial Resistance R&D Hub

India has become a member of the Global Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Research and Development (R&D) Hub. The announcement was made by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology in New Delhi on September 12, 2019.
With India's inclusion, the Global Antimicrobial Resistance Research and Development hub now has 16 member nations. The hub also has the European Commission, two philanthropic foundations as members and four international organisations as observers.
The partnership works to address challenges and improve coordination and collaboration in the global antimicrobial resistance research and development.
The issue of antimicrobial resistance requires global action with active participation from all world regions and One Health sectors.

Cryodrakon Boreas, The Largest Flying Animal Was a Plane-Sized Reptile

Scientists unveiled a new species of pterosaur, the plane-sized reptiles that lorded over primeval skies above T-rex, Triceratops and other dinosaurs of the late Cretaceous.
With a wingspan of 10 m and weighing 250 kg, Cryodrakon boreas rivals another pterosaur as the largest flying animal of all time.

Gurugram Police Ties Up With Google for Traffic Updates

The Gurugram traffic police have tied up with Google maps for dissemination of traffic related information in real time for public use.
The information such as planned road closures, diversions, traffic alerts regarding road crash etc. is now shared by Gurugram traffic police with Google maps.
Based on the information shared by the traffic police, Google maps immediately updates the information on its public maps.
For instance, if traffic police plans to close a particular road on a particular date and at a particular time for a proposed marathon, then this information is passed on to Google maps in advance.
Google maps then shows the road as closed and automatically redirects the commuters to alternate roads.

Govt Launched Multilingual 'CHC Farm Machinery' Mobile App For Farmers

The Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Purushottam Rupala launched a multilingual mobile app 'CHC Farm Machinery' during the National Conference on crop residue Management for farmers in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister also shared his ideas among farmers to ensure zero burning in all villages and also thanked farmers for bringing down incidents of stubble burning.
While launching the mobile app several farmers shared experiences and gave suggestions about crop residue management.
It was claimed by the ministry that more than 1000 farmers attended the conference from four States.

Chandrayaan-2 Lander Vikram Intact, But Tilted

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is yet to reestablish contact with the Vikram lander, three days after the lunar probe made a "hard landing" during its final descent to the moon.
The Chandrayaan-2 orbiter, which has eight instruments on board including a high-resolution camera that can take pictures as small as 0.3 metres across, has captured images of Vikram on the lunar surface.
The lander was found 'tilted' close to its designated landing spot in the lunar south pole region, raising concerns that its communications equipment could have been damaged.

China's Giant Telescope Picks up Signals from Deep Space

Chinese astronomers have detected repeated fast radio bursts (FRB), mysterious signals believed to be from a source about 3 billion light years from the Earth, with the largest and most sensitive radio telescope ever built.
Scientists detected the signals with the 500-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) and they are carefully cross-checking and processing them.
FRBs are the brightest bursts known in the universe. They are called "fast" because these blips are very short, only several milliseconds in duration. But there is no reasonable explanation for their origin.

Scientists Unearth Largest Dinosaur Fossils

Researchers from Japan have unearthed a new species of dinosaur which measured eight-metres long and weighed close to five tonnes.
After studying around 350 bones and 70 taxa, researchers from Hokkaido University found out that the skeleton once belonged to a herbivorous dinosaur known as 'hadrosaurid'.
Initially, in the year 2013, they found a tail in northern Japan and thereafter excavated the whole skeleton, which was underneath 72 million-year-old marine deposits in the town of Mukawa.
Researchers named the dinosaur as 'Kamuysaurus japonicus,' which comes from "kamuy," the language of the indigenous people of northern Japan.
The duck-billed dinosaur, which weighed almost as much as an Asian elephant, is believed to be a nine-year-old adult who lived in coastal areas, known to be a rare habitat for those diverse groups of reptiles.
