  • Describing the initiative as a vital step in the global community's collective efforts to address emerging and long-term challenges, India emphasised the importance of inclusive, forward-looking international cooperation.
  • The informal interactive dialogue aimed to provide a platform for member States to exchange ideas and share practices, looking ahead to 2028 in the implementation of the pact.

South Asia Achieves Highest-Ever Child Immunisation Coverage in 2024

  • South Asia achieved its highest-ever immunization coverage for children, with notable progress in India and Nepal, according to new data released by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF for 2024, in July 2025.
  • India reduced its number of zero-dose children — those who have not received a single vaccine — by 43%, from 1.6 million in 2023 to 0.9 million in 2024. Nepal achieved a 52% reduction, from 23,000 to 11,000, according to a statement by WHO.
  • Pakistan also recorded its highest-ever DTP3 (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) coverage at 87%. However, Afghanistan continued to struggle, with the lowest coverage in the region and a one percentage point decline since last year.
  • The progress marks a milestone in the region's efforts to protect every child from vaccine-preventable diseases.

Yuliia Svyrydenko Appointed as New Prime Minister of Ukraine

  • Ukraine's Economy Minister and the key negotiator in the mineral deal with the US Yuliia Svyrydenko, was appointed as its new Prime Minister. She replaced Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine's longest-serving Prime Minister, who now took on the role of Defence Minister. This appointment marks the first leadership transition since the war began in 2022 and reflects Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's efforts to inject renewed energy into the country's war-time governance.

UK Lifts Ban on Pakistani Airlines

  • Britain lifted a five-year ban on Pakistani airlines, allowing them to apply to resume UK flights just as Islamabad steps up efforts to privatise its national carrier, Pakistan International Airlines.
  • The ban was imposed in 2020, days after Pakistan launched an investigation into the validity of pilot licences issued in the country following a PIA plane crash that killed 97 people.

EU Ready to Hit US with 21 Billion Euro Tariff List

  • The European Union has prepared a list of tariffs worth 21 billion euros ($24.52 billion) on U.S. goods if the two countries fail to reach a trade deal, Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said.
  • President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 30% tariff on imports from Mexico and the EU starting August 1, after weeks of negotiations with major U.S. trading partners failed to reach a comprehensive deal.
  • The European Union said that it would extend its suspension of countermeasures to U.S. tariffs until early August and continue to press for a negotiated settlement.
