  • Poland national football team coach Michal Probierz resigned from the post after a tiff with star striker Robert Lewandowski.

Manu Bhaker Finishes Sixth in 25m Pistol at ISSF World Cup in Munich

  • Two-time Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker secured a sixth-place finish in the women's 25m pistol event at the 2025 ISSF World Cup in Munich, Germany.
  • Bhaker scored 20 in the medal round before being eliminated in the second stage of the final. She narrowly missed advancing to the next round, finishing just one point behind reigning Olympic champion Yang Ji-in of South Korea, who claimed the bronze medal.
  • China's Sun Yujie clinched the gold medal, while South Korea's Oh Ye-jin secured the silver medal.

Sana Mir the First Female Cricketer from Pakistan to be Inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame

  • One of the names to stand out in the inductees in the ICC Hall of Fame was Pakistan's Sana Mir. She became the first female cricketer from Pakistan to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
  • Sana became Pakistan's captain at 23 and led them for seven years, including winning two Asian Games gold medals in 2010 and 2014. Having enjoyed a 15-year international career, she retired as her country's leading wicket-taker in ODI cricket and second-highest in T20I cricket. Having started out as a pace bowler, a stress fracture forced her to switch to off-spin, and in October 2018 she became the first Pakistani woman to reach the summit of the ICC rankings when she went top of the ODI bowling table.

Carlos Alcaraz Wins French Open

  • Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz recovered from two sets down - saving three championship points on the way - to beat Jannik Sinner in an incredible French Open men's singles final.
  • Alcaraz's reign on the Roland Garros clay looked to be over when world number one Sinner closed in on victory at 5-3 in the fourth set.
  • But the Spaniard showed extraordinary fight to win 4-6 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (10-2) after five hours and 29 minutes - the longest French Open final in history.

MS Dhoni Inducted into ICC Hall of Fame

  • World Cup-winning former India captain MS Dhoni was inducted to the ICC Hall of Fame, the International Cricket Council announced. Regarded as one of the most successful captains of all time, Dhoni led India to victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy. Additionally, he was captain of the Indian team when they climbed to the top of the ICC Test rankings in 2009.
  • Dhoni is one of seven former players who were inducted by the ICC, with the others being Australia's Matthew Hayden, former South Africa captain Graeme Smith, former New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori, South African Hashim Amla, former Pakistan captain Sana Mir and England's Sarah Taylor.

Nicholas Pooran Bows Out of International Cricket

  • West Indies wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran announced his retirement from international cricket across all formats. The unexpected move came just days after South Africa's Heinrich Klaasen, another prominent figure in limited-overs cricket, also called time on his international career.
  • Pooran hit 13 half-centuries in 106 Twenty20 Internationals and amassed 2,275 runs and became West Indies' leading scorer in the shortest format.

Sahib Singh: India's First Sikh Chess IM

  • Sixteen-year-old Sahib Singh made history by becoming the first Sikh player to earn the International Master (IM) title in chess.
  • Sahib's journey to the IM title was anything but easy. He came close to achieving the title multiple times but narrowly missed his final IM norm on several occasions. However, his persistence paid off when he secured his third and final IM norm at the Dubai Open 2025, officially earning the IM title.

Muhammad Waseem and Chloe Tryon Named ICC Players of the Month for May 2025

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) named Muhammad Waseem of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Chloe Tryon of South Africa as the ICC Men's and Women's Players, respectively, of the Month for May 2025. Waseem, a dynamic top-order batter and captain, delivered standout performances in both ODIs and T20Is, while Tryon impressed as an all-rounder during South Africa's tour of Sri Lanka. The award recognises their consistency, match-winning efforts, and growing impact on international cricket.

Portugal Wins UEFA Nations League Title

  • Portugal won its second UEFA Nations League title after beating Spain 5-3 on penalties at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
  • The inaugural edition of the competition took place between 2018 and 2019. The Nations League was instituted to make international friendly matches between European countries more competitive.

Coco Gauff Wins French Open

  • Coco Gauff won the first French Open singles title of her career by fighting back and beating world number one Aryna Sabalenka in a rollercoaster final.
  • American second seed Gauff claimed a 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 6-4 victory after a tense battle between the WTA Tour's two leading players in testing conditions.
  • It is the second Grand Slam singles triumph of Gauff's career, adding to the US Open title she won in 2023, also by beating Belarus' Sabalenka.
