Gates named after Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara unveiled at Sydney Cricket Ground
The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Monday used legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's 50th birthday celebrations to unveil gates at the iconic Australia venue that are named after the India legend and fellow cricketing great Brian Lara from West Indies.
All visiting players will now take the field through the newly-named Lara-Tendulkar Gates, with the duo bestowed with the honour on Monday to coincide with Mr. Tendulkar's 50th birthday.
Mr. Tendulkar's first Test century on Australia shores came at the picturesque Sydney venue and the champion right-hander averaged a whopping 157 from five Test matches at the ground. In 13 international matches at SCG, Mr. Tendulkar has scored 1,100 runs at an average of 100, with four centuries and four fifties and the best score of 241*.
Odisha beats Bengaluru FC in Super Cup summit to win first title
Odisha FC were crowned the champions of the Super Cup after they prevailed over Bengaluru FC 2-1 in the summit clash for their first silverware.
While Brazilian Diego Mauricio struck both goals for the winners in the first half, Sunil Chhetri scored from a penalty in the 84th minute to reduce the margin for Bengaluru. Up against seasoned opponents, Odisha did all the damage in the first half. Clifford Miranda also made history by becoming the first Indian coach to win the Super Cup.

Indian men's recurve team wins silver; Dhiraj shoots a bronze
Twenty-one-year-old debutant B. Dhiraj performed well to collect an individual bronze medal and was part of the Indian men's recurve team which claimed silver on the concluding day of the Archery World Cup Stage-1 in Antalya on Sunday.
In the individual competitions, Dhiraj won the first two sets before losing 4-6 (27-26, 28-27, 28-29, 26-28, 28-30) to Olympian Dan Olaru of Moldova in the semifinals.
Dhiraj raised the bar and defeated Kazakhstan's Ilfat Abdullin 7-3 (28-28, 29-26, 28-29, 29-27, 29-27) in a closely-fought duel to take the bronze medal.

Swiatek Beats Sabalenka in Straight Sets to Win Stuttgart Title

World number one Iga Swiatek cruised past Aryna Sabalenka 6-3 6-4 to win the Stuttgart Open on Sunday in a repeat of last year's final to confirm her status as a French Open favourite.
The Pole, back from injury and gearing up for her French Open title defence next month, and world number two Sabalenka traded powerful baseline blows before Swiatek earned a second breakpoint at 4-3.
She whipped a superb forehand down the line to go 5-3 up before easily holding serve to clinch the first set on her second set point.
Ben Foakes and Harmanpreet Kaur among Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Year
BlundBen Stokes and Beth Mooney were named as the Leading Cricketers in the World. Suryakumar Yadav picked up the Leading T20 Cricketer in the World title. Kaur is the first India Women's cricketer to be named a Wisden Cricketer of the Year, chosen primarily for her ODI century against England at Canterbury. She scored 143 runs off 111 balls and led India to their first ODI series victory in England since 1999. She also captained the side to a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Foakes was part of an England Test side that had an unprecedented home Test summer. They won six out of their seven Test matches and underwent a remarkable transformation under Brendon McCullum and Stokes. He was a crucial part of two of those wins, the first against New Zealand at Lord's where he guided England home alongside Joe Root after coming in at five down with 118 still needed to win. Three months later at Old Trafford, he added 173 with Ben Stokes to level the series against South Africa, scoring his second Test century.
Jyothi Surekha Vennam Clinches Two Gold Medals at Archery World Cup
India won two gold medals, one each in the mixed team event and women's individual Compound, at the Archery World Cup 2023 Stage 1 in Antalya, Turkey on Saturday.
Indian mixed team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Pravin Deotale outclassed Chen Yi Hsuan and Chem Chieh Lun of Chinese Taipei 159-154 to win the mixed team gold.
The second gold came in the women's individual Compound event after Jyothi Surekha Vennam defeated Sara Lopez of Columbia 149-146.
Kenya's Kiptum Wins London Marathon in 2nd Fastest Time
Kelvin Kiptum, a Kenyan athlete, collapsed to the ground after achieving victory in the London Marathon and posting the second-best time in history for the distance. Kiptum broke the course record with an impressive time of 2 hours, 1 minute, and 25 seconds, falling short of Eliud Kipchoge's world record by only 16 seconds. Amos Kipruto, Tamirat Tola, and Mo Farah, the legendary long-distance runner, were among the elite men's field that Kelvin Kiptum left behind in what was Farah's final marathon. Farah, at the age of 40, finished in ninth place with a time of 2 hours, 10 minutes, and 28 seconds.
Alcaraz Beats Tsitsipas to Clinch Back-to-back Barcelona Titles
World number two Carlos Alcaraz beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 6-4 to win the Barcelona Open and clinch his third ATP Tour title of the year and the ninth overall for the 19-year-old.
Alcaraz, who had an injury-plagued start to the season and was beaten by Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals of his last tournament, the Miami Open, won in Barcelona for the second consecutive year, taking the title without losing a set.
The Spanish teenager beat world number five and second seed Tsitsipas with the same ease that he dispatched every other opponent in Barcelona this week.
Alcaraz, who in December became the youngest year-end world number one since the ATP rankings began, was close to perfection on Sunday and gave a masterclass as he won in less than 80 minutes.

Mickey Arthur is Pakistan's New Director of Cricket
Pakistan appointed their former coach Mickey Arthur as director of cricket. Ex-South Africa, Australia and Sri Lanka coach Arthur was in charge of Pakistan from 2016 to 2019 when they won the 2017 Champions Trophy and became the world's top-ranked T20 team. The Johannesburg-born is Derbyshire head coach and will now also oversee strategy for Pakistan. Arthur will also serve as a member of Pakistan's coaching staff for this year's (2023) World Cup in India.
Prannoy and Sindhu to Lead Indian Team at Sudirman Cup
World No. 9 H.S. Prannoy and two-time Olympic medallist P.V. Sindhu will lead the Indian challenge at the 2023 Sudirman Cup, scheduled in Suzhou, China, from May 14 to 21.
The senior national selection committee, named a "balanced" squad with an aim to clinch a first-ever medal in the mixed team championships.
The Indian men had created history last year (2022) by winning the Thomas Cup and hopes of a potential podium finished were raised further following the bronze medal-winning performance in the Asian Mixed Team Championships earlier this year (2023).
India is in Group 'C' along with Malaysia, Chinese Taipei and Australia and its first task will be to make it to the knock-out stage.

Four-team Intercontinental Cup to Be Held in Bhubaneswar
Four-team Intercontinental Football Cup will be held in Bhubaneswar from June 9 to 18. This will be the third edition of the tournament with the previous two being held in Mumbai (2018) and Ahmedabad (2019). Host India will be joined by Lebanon, Mongolia and Vanuatu in the tournament. The Indian men's national team had previously never played against Mongolia and Vanuatu. Against Lebanon, the hosts hold a record of playing six matches.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's Son Pankaj Becomes Cycling Federation of India President
BJP's Noida MLA Pankaj Singh was declared as the president of the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) after he emerged as the lone candidate for the top post. Not only Pankaj, all the other 24 members of the CFI executive council, were elected unopposed during the election meeting held in Nainital, Uttarakhand.
He succeeded former Punjab Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa, who became ineligible to contest the elections under the Sports Code as he has served three terms (12 years since 2011) as head of CFI.
Pankaj, son of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, had served as president of Fencing Association of India for a brief period before resigning from the post in April 2022, citing his "commitments as a legislator" in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
