Rachin Ravindra Wins ICC 'Player of the Month' Award for October

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed the ICC Men's and Women's Player of the Month award recipients for October 2023 from a strong line-up of nominees. New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra claimed his first ICC Men's 'Player of the Month' award thanks to a series of memorable knocks in the group stages of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, while the ICC Women's Player of the Month for October was awarded to Hayley Matthews, who led from the front with scintillating individual performances in West Indies' short format battles in Australia.

Asian Championships: Parneet Kaur Shocks Jyothi to Clinch Gold

  • Teenager Parneet Kaur secured the biggest win of her career when she pipped ace Indian compound archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam to clinch the individual crown at the Asian Championships.
  • In an all-Indian women's compound individual final, Parneet trailed by two points till the halfway mark but the bespectacled 18-year-old produced two perfect last rounds to level the score 145-145 and force a tie-breaker.
  • Fresh from winning a hat-trick of gold at the Asian Games last month, Jyothi was not at her best and lost the shoot-off 8-9 as Parneet won her maiden individual gold medal at the International level.

Meg Lanning Australia's Skipper Retires (11)

  • Meg Lanning, captain of Australia's all-conquering women's cricket team, announced her international retirement after a decorated 13-year career including seven world titles. Out of those seven trophies, five were won by Australia under Lanning's leadership.
  • The 31-year-old also led Australia to a Commonwealth Games gold medal last year and is the country's leading run scorer across formats with 8,352 runs in 241 games (six Tests, 103 ODIs and 132 T20s). Lanning, however, will continue to play in T20 leagues around the world.

National Games of India 2023 Conclude

  • Maharashtra clinched three gold medals in Yogasana and one more in shooting on the final day to top the National Games medal tally for the first time since 1994 in Goa on Thursday.
  • Maharashtra finished with a total of 228 medals (80 gold, 69 silver and 79 bronze) and emerge overall champions and lifted the Raja Bhalindra Singh Rolling Trophy.
  • Services finished second with 66 gold, 27 silver and 33 bronze medals, as their reign at the top since the 2007 Games in Guwahati ended.
  • Haryana stood third with 62 gold, 54 silver and 73 bronze. Madhya Pradesh and Kerala finished fourth and fifth, respectively with host Goa registering their best ever finish -- ninth -- with 92 medals, including 27 gold.

Punjab Wins Maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Title

  • Ton-up Anmolpreet Singh dished out an unbelievable exhibition of power-hitting before India seamer Arshdeep Singh used all his experience and powered Punjab to their maiden title triumph in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament with a 20-run win over Baroda.
  • Anmolpreet blazed away to 113 off 61 balls while Nehal Wadhera smashed 61 in 27 deliveries to propel Punjab to an imposing 223 for 4 in the allotted 20 overs.
  • In reply, Baroda was stopped at 203 for 7.
