  • Bollywood icon and entrepreneur Ajay Devgn officially joined the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) as the proud owner of its newly launched Ahmedabad franchise.   • India's Bindyarani Devi, Muthupandi Raja and Sneha Soren dazzled at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2025 in Ahmedabad by clinching silver medals. However, the headlines belonged to 17-year-old Koyel Bar, who stole the spotlight by breaking the youth world records.
  • Koyel Bar left the world stunned with her record-shattering performance in the women's 53kg youth category. She lifted a total of 192kg (85kg + 107kg), setting new youth world records in total and clean and jerk.

  • India's Sift Kaur Samra won the gold medal in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions event, at the Asian Shooting Championship 2025 in Shymkent, Kazakhstan.
  • Before extending her dominance in the tournament, she bagged a team gold with Ashi Chouksey and Anjum Moudgil.
  • She tallied 459.2 points to top the standings ahead of the People's Republic of China's Yujie Yang, who finished with 458.8 points.

NorthEast United Retain Durand Cup 2025 with 6-1 Win

  • NorthEast United FC stamped their authority on Indian football by retaining the Durand Cup title with a dominant 6-1 victory over debutants Diamond Harbour FC in the 134th edition of the tournament. The final, played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata, saw the Highlanders lift the trophy for the second year in a row, becoming the first team in 25 years to successfully defend the title.

Czech Republic's Petra Kvitova Retires

  • Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova retired from tennis after being knocked out of the US Open.
  • She was beaten 6-1 6-0 by France's Diane Parry in their first-round meeting in New York.
  • Kvitova's two-decade career had many memorable highlights, but her two victories at Wimbledon will always be the pinnacle.
  • In the 2011 tournament, she beat Maria Sharapova 6-3 6-4 in the final to seal her first Grand Slam success.
  • And she was celebrating on Centre Court again in 2014 as she claimed her second title in south west London.

Mirabai Chanu Wins Gold at Commonwealth Championship

  • Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won a gold medal at the 2025 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Ahmedabad and marked a triumphant return to competitive action. The Tokyo Olympics silver medallist lifted a total of 193kg and set new Commonwealth Championship records in snatch, clean and jerk, and total, finishing atop the women's 48kg podium. This included 84kg in snatch and 109kg in clean and jerk, both setting new Commonwealth Championship records. The win also secured her direct qualification for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Aishwary Tomar Wins Gold at Asian Shooting 2025

  • India's Aishwary Tomar won the gold medal in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions event at the Asian Shooting Championship 2025 in Shymkent, Kazakhstan.
  • In the final, Aishwary Tomar shot 462.5 and edged out the People's Republic of China's Zhao Wenyu (462.0).
  • This was Aiswary's second Asian title in the same event, having clinched a gold in 2023 as well.

Navi Mumbai Replaces Bengaluru

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced a revised schedule for the upcoming ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in India and Sri Lanka as M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is unavailable to host the matches.
  • Navi Mumbai replaces Bengaluru as one of the five venues for the eight-team tournament that commences on September 30 due to the unavailability of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Cheteshwar Pujara Retires From All Forms of Cricket

  • Indian batting legend Cheteshwar Pujara announced his retirement from all forms of cricket as he dropped curtains on an illustrious playing career. Pujara, a veteran of the Indian game, bids farewell after a career spanning more than 15 years and will go down as one of India's best middle-order batters. He represented Saurashtra in the domestic circuit, where he was again a batting legend, winning several honours.
  • Pujara made his IPL debut in 2010 for Kolkata Knight Riders. Over the next few years, he represented multiple franchises, including Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), and later Chennai Super Kings in 2021.

India U18 Women's Recurve Team Clinches Bronze at World Archery Youth Championships

  • The India Under-18 women's recurve team bagged the bronze medal at the World Archery Youth Championships 2025 in Winnipeg, Canada.
  • The Indian trio of Gatha Anandrao Khadake, Jiana Kumar and Sharvari Somnath Shende delivered a dominant performance and defeated USA 6-0 in the bronze medal match.
  • The World Archery Youth Championships 2025 was the 19th edition of the biennial meet that has been held since 1991. A total of 570 top youth archers from 63 countries around the world vied for medals in Winnipeg.

  • The Uttar Pradesh Pro Volleyball League (UPPVL) marked history as Muzaffarnagar Lions emerged as the first-ever champions of Season 1. In a thrilling five-set finale at the Shaheed Vijay Pathik Sports Complex, Greater Noida, the Lions defeated Mathura Yodhas by winning 3 sets to 2, lifting the prestigious inaugural UPPVL trophy.

  • Former South African cabinet minister Trevor Manuel wasa appointed chair of the 2027 Cricket World Cup Local Organising Committee (LOC) board.
  • Cricket South Africa (CSA) unveiled a 15-member board, which consists of two provincial presidents, a CSA board member, seven independent directors, two appointees made by the South African ministry and three CSA executives, including CEO Pholetsi Moseki. The Local Organising Committee will carry out the task of the roll-out of the flagship tournament, which is being co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

  • For Reegan Ganesan, K. Gowtham and Kamal Loganathan, the 64th National Intestate Senior Athletics Championship turned into an intra-college event. Having pursued a BA in History at Loyola College, all ended up on the podium in the pole vault, with Reegan and Gowtham jointly winning gold (5.20m) and Loganathan crossing 5m. Among the three, one who stole the night was Reegan.
  • Having been busy in the World University Games, Reegan missed the state meet and was a last-minute wild card entry for the event held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.
